Northern Wisconsin Musky with Oliver Ngy & Kevin Harlander | S2E04 | Das Boat

Dos Boat heads west to meet up with Oliver Ngy and Kevin Harlander in North Central Wisconsin. Oliver and Kevin are here for two things: big musky and delicious panfish. These targets represent opposite poles of the fishing spectrum: Musky (also known as muskellunge) are one of the largest, most difficult freshwater fish in North America. They are a coveted prize for dedicated fisherfolk. Panfish, on the other hand, are seen as entry-level-too small, abundant, and easy to fool to merit the attention of “serious anglers.” Oliver and Kevin show that fishing is fun, plain and simple, no matter how serious or laid back you want to make it. Before hitting the water, they give Das Boat a serious lake fishing upgrade with state-of-the-art electronics and a powerful trolling motor. They also convert a cooler into a livewell to keep bait and fish alive. Along the way they discuss whether or not it really takes 10,000 casts to catch a musky, losing the fish of a lifetime right at the boat, the figure 8, how bluegills make you feel like a winner, and a hell of a lot more. Up here in northern Europe we catch quite a lot of redfin perch and invasive sunfish and I'd love to embrace my imaginary inner American and have a classic good ol' panfish fry. Fun! I am super impressed that you got a musky to eat a bait, self guided, on completely new water. I am familiar with the area you were fishing and I know there are lots of lakes to target muskies there. Even some lakes that are considered "action" lakes. It's still cool to pull it off on a schedule, on film in a heat wave. I am also a huge fan of the mighty bluegill! Good episode!

I really enjoy this series, but I'd like 2 see 2 additions to it. First, I'd like to see the final episode be Steve reuniting with the boat and enjoying the upgrades and reminiscing about that boat and others he's fished out of growing up. Second, I'd like to see the final wrap up of the series being a giveaway of the boat to someone between 16 and 20 or there abouts to encourage the next generation of anglers.

If I may provide some constructive criticism, I think the intros are far too long. Though the editing on it is very well done, we probably don't need to see a recap of season 1 on every episode. The intro is nearly 2 minutes long on a 23 minute video, followed by even more recap of what happened in the previous episode or two, in my opinion that's too long. Thanks for uploading these!

In my experience musky bite windows are more focused around weather and sun exposure changes, sun rise and sun set are equally great because the light is changing so quickly. Simply a cloud covering the sun, the sun shining through on a cloudy day or the wind picking up can cause a bite. Just saying it’s worth musky fishing all day rather than only early in the morning but they caught one so I guess they know what they are doing!
