One perspective I heard is that accessibility isn't just for disabled people. Accessibility makes life easier for everyone. Of course, when it comes to things that can only be used by a limited number of people at a time, disabled people should get priority. Pushing the button though? When you say you're concerned about the button being worn away, you sound like my grandpa who tells me not to use the laundry room light switch cause using it will wear it out.

@@lettersnstuff the switch and connected door ALSO may just develop like, a wiring fault or other electric/mechanical problem at any time (which is the reason it has limited use to begin with) and semi frequent use makes that more obvious so when it does break down they know to replace it

Its not a crime, but blood banks typically don't want gay people donating because they are at higher risk of HIV and dealing with batches with HIV is a larger time and money cost for them and makes it not worth it. Could be old stats, but the reason it ever happened was because the % of sexually active gay people with HIV made the donating organization waste too many resources which were better spent elsewhere. It's a bit of a hot issue because it's seen as discriminating against gay people but it has some equitable purpose to begin with.

just last year Canada removed the 3 month deferral period for gay people, now they ask everyone if they've had new/multiple sexual partners in the last 3 months and if you say yes they ask "anal?"

A lot less dystopian than giving people money for donating blood as is common in a lot of countries. In game items with no actual value is fun, its not particularly exploitive imo. But giving people cash for donating? It kinda is creepy. Incentivising poor people to give their body parts away for anything other than charity doesnt sit right with me.

They pay you for you blood because it's an incentive for donation. If no one donated their blood, all transfusions and transplants would have to use what blood they could take from cadavers which wouldn't come close to the demand which they probably already don't hit. You also just replace missing blood so giving a pint or whatever won't really effect you and will be replaced in a matter of hours to days.

Because you have to answer questions and fill out a form, which asks for things like, Have you recently gotten a tattoo in the last six months, do you share needles, have you travelled to these specific countries in the last 6 months, these countries in the last 12 months, these countries in the last 18 months and asking about lifestyles that are high risk. They ask you these things because those behaviors are associated with a higher risk of carrying a blood borne illness that can be transmitted. Some countries get added to the list if recently they have had outbreaks of diseases or massive issues, such as after the fukushima meltdown in Japan a couple years back, if you travelled to japan around that time, they couldn't take your blood at all because they had to ensure that you didn't bring anything back. When it comes to gays, the numbers are on the CDC website for the vectors of STD's which aren't the only thing they track but in 2020, when gay men were 43% of primary and secondary cases of syphilis in the US and gay men are like 3.5 ish percent of the US population they are overrepresented by 1200% in that one disease alone. It's logical to just disallow people who engage in that lifestyle because testing the batches that are donated to ensure proper blood typing, volume, hemoglobin, iron, glucose levels to ensure they are viable for use in transfusion finding out that all the blood donated can't be used because that person has a virulent strain of Hep-C just meant time and resources were wasted collecting, transporting and testing the blood and now it has to be disposed of. So sure, you can lie on the forms, but you shouldn't because even if you think you have nothing, you might and if it's not tested properly you run the risk of having infected someone who needs a blood transfusion with an infection that can very much complicate thing especially if they needed that blood in critical condition. It was simply faster and safer to not allow these groups.

Then people misrepresent that because it gets more attention than saying "people who engage in high risk behaviours can't donate blood." There ought to be a category in the public conscious of things people like complaining about, but don't want fixed. "I'd totally do this virtuous thing if it wasn't for society oppressing me." Not true, first of all they run these test on every sample anyways and second since prep, hiv has become very infrequent. They changed the regulation in Germany a few years back, it's just a hold out from the Aids epedemic.
