I think eastman makes some. I've found with mandolins, it is worth it to avoid the budget models. For $500, you can get a decent instrument that you won't be fighting and you could sell if you waved and not lose much

It's tuned the same way and you can find them in music stores.

GDAE is standard mandolin tuning, the same as a violin. An octave mandolin is one octave below.

Octave mandolins like this are tuned GDAE usually, like a regular mandolin, but an octave lower. The mandola however is tuned like a viola, CGDA.
