I absolutely love how much Marcus grew over the years. Being still shy in Node, getting more comfortable with Mesmer and exploding with Alien. Crazy how time flies. Northlane really became my favourite band
I think 2024 would mark 10 years since he joined the band. He had big shoes to fill, but he brought his own damn shoes and set the bar way beyond anyone would have thought. His voice has matured and become much more full, rich, controlled, and his lyrics are amazing.
I honestly couldn't agree with you more. I remember watching his Northlane audition where he covered two of their tracks. I love his vocals, cant believe how fast that time has gone since he has been in the band. NORTHLANE IS MY NO1 BAND... Honestly love them 🤘🤘
It's between Alien and Obsidian for sure (I love Mesmer too tho). I'm gonna say Freefall. The chorus is so powerful in terms of Marcus vocals, the melody, the tapping riff. Also if you listen to the instrumental version, you can hear some kind of male choir too which gives an epic atmosphere you would miss otherwise. Like I said in Birb's comment, Dante is the perfect mix between 4D, Rift, Clockwork and Xen as someone mentionned to me.
Freefall was instantly my favorite off of Alien. Then I saw them in a good venue on the Alien tour and of course they played Freefall. I was pretty tipsy and almost cried on how damn good it was.
I’ve seen them several times throughout the node cycle to Alien. When I saw them on the Alien tour I think they were at peak live performance. It was levels beyond studio.
Dante is unique, heavy and has elements from Obsidian that contrast very nicely with this new sound. Great reaction as always Bogdan and as for my fav Northlane song I can't pick one Lol.
Gonna be honest, I was blindly reacting to the song while I was doing something and didn't pay attention properly. I got everything right about the song except for the heavy part, I listened to it more and I feel it very experimental and reminiscent of Obsidian
Weightless and Sleepless are two of my faves. Something about Marcus and the softer songs just hit different. I highly recommend checking out the acoustic livestream Marcus did a couple years ago, one of the greatest things ever. Also loving this new song, I get Node vocals + that Alien/Obsidian instrumental vibe. The ending of this song gave me goosebumps and I really really hope they have an acoustic/stripped down version of this song

I came so close to calling this new release my favourite from Northlane, but there is a chilling beauty to the acoustic version of Mesmer's 'Solar' - beyond the transcendent vocal performance from Marcus, the time sig changes and timbral decisions made on that track never fail to bring a tear to my eye. It's stunning.
My favourite Northlane song is probably Cypher, the track has such a sick atmosphere But Bogdan, what is your favourite Northlane song? Loved the video!
I've got two, Talking Heads was the song that got me into them and it's still one of my favorites. And then from their old stuff, metamorphosis is super underrated.
Favourite Northlane song is Render. Its such a good mix of heavy and Marcus' crazy singing. I'm super keen to get a 'this is just a ride' tattoo at some point.
Worldeater for the Adrian era, and Talking Heads for the Marcus era, and I enjoy this track better than most of the Obsidian album and I agree it does have the perfect blend of Alien and Obsidian mixed in, so maybe thats why I enjoy it more 🤘🏼
you wanna see something special, Drew Fortune has uploaded his full Obsidian album reaction - it was the first time he ever heard Northlane and it's wonderful to watch an instant stan being born
Marcus always had a great voice but god DAMN he's been working on it - those Eb5s (i think even straight E5 or possibly F in some of the layers, it's always harder to get a measure with screams bc they're like metal vibrato) in the chorus are impressive enough but delivering them with that grit, what an emotional punch. If this song is indicative of where the album is going, colour me HYPED (I came from a background of 90s alt-rock/industrial-tinged things and then moved heavily into electronic for a solid ten years). I would say Clockwork, Bloodline and 4D were my favs but this might have edged them out. Given we've seen a big resurgence into metalcore and we're now well into post-metalcore with synths, this is going to be a breakthrough moment for them - yes I know they've got quite a following outside Australia but this has mainstream appeal crossover written all over it in the best way
Im just seeing everyone having their own favorite song and im here for it! My favs are: Set In Stone Transcending Dimensions Worldeater Node/Animate Zero-One 4D Cypher/Obsidian
Favorite Northlane song was Carbonized but this song is now my favorite Northlane song! Its for sure in my top 10 songs of the year list already on 2nd listen through...
This is probably my favorite song from the post-Alien sound. Holy shit I love it. My overall favorite song from them is probably Exposure, Paragon, Dream Awake, or Vultures (and obviously QF, though this song is seriously now a contender). Obsidian would also be one of the best metalcore songs of all time if it kept up after the chorus instead of winding down.
Favourite is definitely Sleepless that one hits me personally, As a a fellow Australian I can confirm these guys are insane live seeing them for a 5th time in February. Great reaction too buddy. ❤
Jon (guitar player) said he wanted to bring back a little more of the band side to this next album on a patreon live stream, loved this its everything i love from them, hoping for something heavy next but this is awesome. Id go for Talking heads, its such a cathartic and angry vibe, song got me through some tough moments in my life.
Absolutely in love with this song. I feel like Northlane has been working towards this sound over the past few years and it just fits them so good. Excited for this next chapter. Have been listening to the band since 2015, have listened to all of their albums and I can hand on heart say this is one of their best songs to date.
Sleepless is probably my favorite. I swear these Australian bands have a special place in my heart. Between them, Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, I can't wait for the new album
i also saw them on the parkway tour, was looking forward to northlane and MTS and they both performed fantastic. P.S. parkway's drummer is sick for his drum solo performance.
I’d have to say my favourite song is Sleepless. Just love the vibes in the liquid DnB at the beginning and then from the middle to end where it explodes sounds gorgeous.
Sleepless and Veridian are my favorite Northlane songs, and two of my favorite songs of all time. This band, with Marcus, just speaks to me lol I adore them.
My all time favorite will be Bloodline, Freefall, Citizen, Clockwork And 4D. Talking about this one, I love this melancholic vibe. I don't need "0" breakdowns all the time. I dig that synth and groove. Instant teleport to my favorites.
Discovered them back in the days of Singularity and was a huge fan of that era... Took me years to get into Alien and Obsidian and now my favorite song might Obsidian or Dark Solitaire which are epic and emotionnal as fuck!! Reach me every time!!
Tie between The Calling (old era) and Nova (new era). If we consider only heavier tracks it would be Talking Head. But Nova have some uniqueness and nostalgic feeling
Mannnn, since Mesmer Marcus has REALLY been blowing me away with his vocals and the bands creativity is blooming. Obsidian grew on me and this sounds like the perfect follow-up. Im guessing there will be heavier songs but id love an album of EDM-core from them. Only they could pull it off.
Favorite Northlane song is gonna be different than a lot of people’s for sure, but I’m gonna go with Animate. Node was the first album I heard from them and fell in love with the whole album and I think Animate is a perfect end to the album. It’s such a perfect example of that mid 2010s prog metalcore sound with amazing melodies and low tuned riffs. Always a recipe for success
recipe for success? that's a thing for mediocre people, outstanding people try new things, experiments, make something new, something fresh, not just repeat the same old thing just because it works...
There are plenty of very successful bands that have never changed their sound. There are also TONS of bands who were successful then changed their sound and became mediocre. But guess what? It’s all opinion. Some bands try new things and I love it, Northlane actually being one of them. Some bands try new things that I just can’t really get behind, like Thornhill. But everyone has their own opinion, right? That’s why we shouldn’t place people above or below us just because their opinion doesn’t match up with our own. My opinion is that I like good music lol. Idc if the band has or hasn’t changed their sound in the past 10 years. Make sure that you know that everything you said is your own opinion, cause it kinda sounds like you think that your opinions are facts😂
I didnt like obsidian when it came out but then i got super into it when I gave it another chance Favourite songs Is this a test Obsidian Sleepless Cypher
My favorite Northlane album has to be Node, with Animate being my favorite song Absolutely love Alien and Obsidian too, with Plenty, Freefall and 4D being up there with Animate as my favorite Northlane songs
pretty sick track, it's definitely a mix of Obsidian and Alien and a progression for them that makes a lot of sense. this track's already growing on me a lot, though my main gripe is that Marcus seems a bit lost in the mix sometimes. excited for whatever's next! favorite Northlane track is Sleepless :)
Dispossession was my first song i heard from them, but Clockwork would have to be my favorite of Marcus' work besides Dante and his feature in Termina.
fair to mention that that was a Grimes collab which influenced the sound a lot (they said though themselves). No shade I love them and that song. But Northlane been doing kinda direction this for a while now
Heya man im from Australia cool video 😊 This song is Epic hey It reminded me of a Fusion Between An AMAZING BAND Called DEAD LETTER CIRCUS From Australia They were pioneers of this style ( please check them out blow your mind) and cross them with lincoln park Such an amazing production zo cool 😊😊 Have a groovy day today
I'm almost thinking the same, the track just fully realised, if that makes sense. I'm not like, a metal-metal person, but the current moment in the genre where everyone's really bringing in some great ideas and sounds on the electronic side of things (eg Dayseeker, Bad Omens, Electric Callboy, Sleep Token always on high rotation) - as someone who's spent an ungodly amount of hours over the years in underground tech/house/electro clubs it's catnip to me and so cool to see how artists are incorporating it
It's hard to narrow it down to just 1 song but my top 3 are Sleepless, Intuition, and of course Quantum Flux Edit: I totally forgot about Nova, I've been vibing that song a lot too
This track is sexy asf. Gonna be another great album 🤞🏻 vocals on point! Great mixing. Fave song 100% Cypher, no song seems to get me more pumped in the gym. Awesome sound
My favorite is Savage. About this one though, i did like it but i didn't vibe that much tbh, maybe it'll grow on me anytime, because my first impression of most of their songs is "wtf is that?" and then i dig it afterwards 😂
