Node is probably still my favourite album by them with Alien being very close second. Node just has a special place in my heart and the ambience is killer on that album. This song has been on repeat since it came out.
Personally I love this track! Even though i've been jaded by metalcore in general recently. Also bias as a huge Karnivool fan, when you get the chance def check them out. Their albums "Sound Awake" and "Themata" are some of the most amazingly progressive and beautiful soundscapes!
While this track is Northlane feature Ian Kenny, it could also easily by a Karnivool featuring Marcus track, the two styles of Karnivool and Northlane go so well together.
Hot take here, but Mesmer. I know it was a hard time for the band financially, and people had yet to really give Marcus a chance. But it was my introduction to the band in late 2017 after first hearing Quantum Flux. (I Heard The Rest Of Singularity after). And I think it still holds up, Intuition is an absolute banger of a track.
This EP was produced by Will Putney, the producer of Singularity and Node. The last couple releases have been Chris Blancato/Nolly/the band themselves. I think its an interesting take on the more electronically-conscious sound they have now, but it does feel a little stripped back, which is what Jon said he was going for with the writing. He wanted it to be more band-involved rather than just boatloads of EDM.
I personally didn't mind the production. It's Will Putney doing the mix I believe. Dull for his usual sound, but still very solid. And no, Alien is the best album hands down lol.
Northlane has done some totally fine stuff in the Marcus era. He's a great vocalist. There are newer songs of theirs that are totally in rotation for me. But come on, Singularity blows it all out of the water. I'd have loved to hear Marcus rerecord vocals for the whole thing with his take, I bet I'd like it a lot. A lot of production of their newer albums have evolved into a direction I just don't like, I think that's a bigger knock for me than anything songwriting related in terms of their evolution. The songs aren't bad, but they hit like a pillow instead of a brick
My favorite album is easily Discoveries. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy Marcus. He's great. But Adrian will forever ''be' Northlane for me. Discoveries and Singularity are just on another level entirely. Exposure is Top5 songs of all-time for me. That being said, I like this single. Not better than Miasma, but still miles better than Dante. I'm stoked for the album!
I’m bout to get rinsed for liking Discoveries more than anything, just feel like it’s a very complete album even if it’s not quite as refined as future products
I liked It a lot, but with Marcus my favorite album from them is Node. Rot is where I think Marcus is at his best in my taste since when I think Northlane I always think of Singularity. But Marcus has such amazing talent vocally to sing any style so I see why they like to try different things. But if they would make more music heavier again I would love It haha. I love the new stuff but in a way It all kind of sounds the same. Almost like in a way you could just put each new song together and you won’t really notice a difference in my opinion.
All these American reaction RU-vidrs be like "oh I got to check out Karnivool"... And then they... Don't check out Karnivool... Proof that you can only lead the horse to water I guess 🤷
amazing single, i’d say it’s more of node vibes i feel in this song tbh. but i’ve got to say this is my least favorite from 3 singles they dropped so far, imo the only truly fascinating thing in this song is ian kenny feature part (meanwhile miasma has their modern sound heaviness and i love the energy they delivered in dante). i’d still enjoy this single and put it on daily repeat tho, since i’m sometimes a biased northlane fanboy. 8/10 is the score i’d give for this single
Yeah feels like a song that wasn't included in Alien. But I won't listen to Northlane again because of that, that cringy edm vibe put me off their work. (and I love bands like World Divided or Seeing Things but in Northlane it's so cringe to me)
