I was taking a nap and almost missed the test but this day turned out to be perfect for me cause I of course did not know I was going to be with a firefighter who was doing his routine checks on the Thunderbolt. What I wanted to do is have my cameras facing just the blower only since I've already filmed this siren twice already but there isn't any good videos on RU-vid of a 5M blower running and I've always wanted to hear a 5M blower up close in person and FINALLY got my wish and the result came out better than what I originally had planned. The 2001 you saw at the beginning is the same 2001 you may have heard on my first video of this 1000 10 years ago and was glad to be able to briefly hear it up close sounding off and driving away from it to get to the Thunderbolt as fast as I safely could. It sure was quite a thrill of a experience for me just hearing what sirens sound like apart from each other. The firefighter told me he has been trying to keep this Thunderbolt maintained as best as he could and he cares very deeply about that siren and will continue to do service on it. It's amazing that Northville is willing to keep this siren since Northville only has two 2001s and this 1000. There is no plans of having the Thunderbolt replaced but the firefighter told me that someday, he would like to have the Thunderbolt replaced with a 1003 whenever that'll be but until then, this 1000 is expected to still remain in service for hopefully many more years to come despite of what it has gone through. God bless you firefighter Chris for your dedication to Thunderbolts.

Thats my home city! I'd always see the Thunderbolt when going to the Library there. This is also the 1st time a recording of that 2001 was made. I'd never seen the inside of the blower running. Nice Video!

very cool, also amazing that the thunderbolt isn't going anywhere, because if all the thunderbolts on earth were being shipped off to be destroyed or something, this guy would do everything in his power to keep it there, i'm sure.

That chopper motor needs rewound, it supposed to be significantly higher pitched than it is on level 7.
@Siren1000T1
@Siren1000T1 2 года назад
I've heard of rewound before but could you explain what that means in siren terms?
@TheSleepyMechanic0524
@TheSleepyMechanic0524 2 года назад
@@Siren1000T1 Motor rewinding is a process that can help in the repair of shorted, grounded or damaged coils in a motor. A motor rewind means that a coil is rewound and reinstalled for the necessary armatures or other components. The goal is to get the motor back to functioning at its optimal level. in the case of sirens, a motor rewind would help increase the strength of the electrical connections. This would mean a higher pitch, even on the same voltage
@Siren1000T1
@Siren1000T1 2 года назад
@@TheSleepyMechanic0524 That is excellent info you provided. I remember James was telling me that the siren sounded lower than usual for level 7 and I actually thought it was the amount of voltage it was using.
@TheSleepyMechanic0524
@TheSleepyMechanic0524 2 года назад
@@Siren1000T1 that is also a possibility, could be on 208 for all we know. But I figured with it being installed in 1960, the chopper motor could use a refurb
@SETX_Sirens_and_Rail_02
@SETX_Sirens_and_Rail_02 5 месяцев назад
Or it only gets 208V power instead of 240V. That does have an effect on how much power goes to the chopper

@ThunderboltSiren1003 Год назад
@@Siren1000T1 does that make them louder?
@Siren1000T1
@Siren1000T1 Год назад
@thunderbolt siren 1003 Siren enthusiasts claim that 5Ms are the loudest of the blowers, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. 5Ms would make the chopper louder than 6Ms or 4Ms due to producing the most amount of CFM of air.
@kansasclocksandsirens

@@Siren1000T1 I've heard a 4M, 5M, and 6M 1000. The 5M was actually the quietest, but that's probably because it's missing the top two horn bolts.
