This is a longer, faster test ride on the Norton Atlas 750, whose engine was fully rebuilt at Performance Classics. All appeared well at the end of the run.
Sounds just like it ought to me. Thanks again for another great ridealong. I think I may have even spotted a wee patch of blue sky this time off on the far horizon.
The Atlas was the final attempt to prolong the 500cc Dominator's life. Its horrible vibration resulted in a short production run before it was replaced by the superior Commando.
With the number of machines I have encountered which have been very badly set up - ignition timings way out, carbs way out of balance and all sorts of other bodges, it really is no wonder so many British bikes run badly, vibrate and leak oil. It is testament to their designs and build quality that many can run at all, given the state some supposedly 'restored' machines can actually be in. Regarding the Atlas, all I can say is I was expecting it to shake itself and me to pieces, but that just didn't happen.
Great to see an onbike video of an atlas especially one that sounds and looks like this one does. Where is your microphone located? I have a few classic onbike videos on my channel, too at Craig's Classics.
I have a video on here showing my rather crude set up, but it is a fairly run of the mill digital camera, which I fasten around my waist with a Bungee cord!
Good but why does it look like the choke has been left on? The engine rattle should die out a bit as the engine beds in, from my experience with a 650 ss.
Power wise, the Commando has a small edge, but the Atlas has the edge for handling. Both are great bikes, though and the Atlas is not the bone shaker some make it out to be.
there was also smoke coming out of oil tank also steady oil stream means you have a bad oil pump the smoke is bad rings your bike sounds like its ready to blow up sundquist norton you tube.
