Another run on this fine 850 Commando, after fitting a new throttle cable assembly, balancing the carburettors and running with lights on to ensure it was charging. All was well. A great bike on a great route!
Lordy be!! I’m of an age where I had 2 of these in my youth. 750s though. I grew up in Connecticut with crazy back roads. Wheelies and jumps at speed were the norm. My Nortons were a gas! 60 HP in those days was all you needed! At 19 to 20 years old we rode like idiots and usually made it home. They started and ran always. In 1974 I went into a showroom with a Ducati 750 Sport sitting in it. It was all over. I’d never seen the likes! At 68 I still have it in my garage. A 50 mile ride takes about 4 ibuprofen but what a gas! Thanks so much for your hard work vlogging. Keeps our old hearts beating!!
The perfect bike for those roads. They remind me a lot of the roads up here in Northumberland! Built for motorbikes. The owner will love seeing his bike going so well. Another lovely job Paul.
The Welsh countryside has it's British charm. I was right there on that Bike moving with it especially through the curves with that Torque and at top end maybe low 70's MPH in speed. Good ride Paul!
Thanks for the trip. Beautiful country. I hope the new owners of Norton can make a go of it. I do wish they would go back to a 360 degree crank. I like the sound.
Beautiful bike. Other than you driving on the opposite side of the road than we do in Canada, it made me feel like I was 18 years old again, driving my Norton.
Likewise. A '72 Commando purchased new from Boston Cycles. Many a memorable ride with buddies on theirs thru the twisties of New England. Cheers to Big Al, Gavin F, Steve P and the late Al D. RIP Al.
Brings back great memories, firstly riding a Triumph TR6 and then have a good thrash on a Norton 750 Commando around those very same roads in the mid 60s and 70s blowing the cob-webs out of the pipes. Classic piece of biking there Paul, thanks for the memories. I would have used the racing line through some of those open bends tho` to be honest.
Great ride Paul. I like the higher camera angle. I found myself leaning into the curves! I would think that one would be hard to give back to the owner after a ride up and down the mountain. If only all those little econo-boxes would stop getting in the way although, the do present opportunities...
The bike was made for that road. The archetypal British Motorcycle and the archetypal British Main roads. Made for each other. But it was just as unhappy in that 20mph zone as my T100R and TR7RV. They don't like bumbling around at less than 35mph. You clearly enjoyed that Paul.
Thanks! It is a great machine. As far as the 20 mph stuff is concerned, I deliberately went down to that speed in top gear to demonstrate how well the twin carbs were working and that the engine could do it without lurching and protesting, but it is much happier with a bit of speed on!
We got a group of turkeys here and there on the roads like this that looks a stroller yep the leader will exist right out like he's got a neon dress and I stopped trying to hold up for all the other kids you can cross!
Beautiful bike now running AND sounding so sweet. You have certainly weaved your magic on this Black Beauty Paul. Well done and thank you for riding her to such a stunning location.
Nice ride and video as usual,I notice you seem to be lucky with the weather, dark clouds sometimes at the start but I don`t think I can remember you actually getting wet yet!
Hi Paul, great bike well sorted now, we should be inUk now was going to visit but this covid put an end to that. Maybe in a couple of years time then 😟
I had 750 from new, put about 23k miles it, still full compression. But anyway I would've run the rpms a little higher before shifts if I new the oil was super clean.
@@paulhenshaw4514 Yes mate, retirement project pending. Surprised you've not riden a commando before and you're impressed!! Coming from you, seems I made the right decision all those years ago.Keep up the good work. ; - )
The slight whine does not worry me, the transmission is smooth and lots of British bikes can whine in the intermediate gears. 'Gyflym' [fast] would be the opposite of 'Araf' [slow].
The black cat is our last of three and called Charlie, he just turned up and asked to join the family. Sid and Nancy were brother and sister, also mostly black, but old age took them recently. There are also other cats living nearby.
Apparently, the Black mountain is 703 metres above sea level. Where I start out from is not very much above sea level, and the road doesn't reach the highest point, so I probably climb maybe 600 metres or so. There is never any noticeable change with any machine when I ride up there.
Lawd! them some narrow and greezy roads" Me got 73 850 commando but not ride like that.....if'n a bunny rabbit run out in front o him it all over but de cryin!
@@paulhenshaw4514 Just saying. Your video recorder mic picks up the gearbox whine easily, there shouldn't be any noise from the gearbox. For example ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aeQ50CmoWaM.html
