Norway has become a global leader in electric cars but rapid progress presents challenges such as when to withdraw subsidies. Richard Milne reports from the world’s largest charging station on a country that shows how an electric future might look.

Good for Norway being on the leading edge. So many positive externalities -- no smog, far fewer co2 emissions. It will make Norwegian cities so much more pleasant to live in. Bravo!

where do you think dangerous to environment batteries at the end?
@free_spirit1

At the battery factory, where EV manufacturers pay a lot to get precious resources out to turn them in new batteries. Where do you think that dangerous to the environment oil from your transmission box goes?
@strofikornego9408

I do not have transmission box and cars, owning any types of cars is damaging to environment and economy. Running electrical car - is not an excuse, you do not have high moral ground. If we don't start using busses and trains - we will never deal with transport problems...

What gives you the idea that buses and trains are more environmentally friendly than EV cars? Buses and trains at off-peak hours usually carry very few passengers and are much less efficient than a smaller, right-sized vehicle would be. Also, measuring efficiency on a passenger mile per gallon basis ignores that public transit routes usually take passengers miles off of a direct route to their final destination. Carpooling in an EV is likely to be the best of all powered transport options. Of course, buses and trains are also likely to be powered by fossil fuels as well.

Strofi Kornego Places like ITAP (formerly IT Asset Partners). The materials in high energy Lithium & Sodium batteries are precious & valuable. There is many companies hungry for worn out batteries to recycle for Financial Gain. Compared to Fossil Fuel Refinery who produce fuel that is used ONCE and dumped into the atmosphere. Even worse the Aromatic Bnezonoids that the petrochemical industry gets from crude. Which are orders of magnitude LD50 more toxic than anything in modern batteries. Even Buses for Public Transport are upgrading BEV faster rate than private cars. e.g. BYD & Proterra. Batteries are soo much better your criticism seem pointless.

The irony is Norway is a massive Fossil Fuel energy Exporter. Yet their own power generation is 96% Hydro another 2% Renewable other mix combined BEVs are growing at exceptional rate. They are reducing their own impact very fast. Seems bit a like a drug dealer who trying not to use their own product.

Irony indeed, but think of all the fuel we'll need in the future for SpaceX! LOL!

Pretty sure any country would move on to EVs if they had like 25% tax on the purchase of any gas powered vehicle. Watch the tax come back in 10-20 years

right. that's not a market transition so it's no sustainable.

Only state subsidies provide the large sales of electric cars in Norway. Now they are talking about removing VAT exemption on new electric cars and they also have to start paying in all roadblocks, then Norway is not more concerned with the environment than other countries.

I heard most homes in Europe don’t have garages or even a driveway. Do people charge their vehicles only at public recharging stations?
@whatwhat3432523
@whatwhat3432523 9 месяцев назад
That`s a pretty weird assumption. Most people have garages or carports in Norway. And now in 2023 when 88%(plus 10% hybrid) of new cars are electric, most have their own charging setups at home.

They are all mad just the electric vehicles battery manufacture is the same co2 emission as running a petrol car for 6 and half years, you have cobalt running out so battery problem and more lead in our water from mining and recycling of batteries.

The realy important thing here, is that reneable energy are or are becomming very cheap. Oil need to cost less than 10$ and LPG/LNG need to cost less than 5$, to be able to compete. And that is not realistic.Whit 7Twh all cars in Norway can run on Electricity. In a Normal year, Norway exports 21Twh.Electricity reduces the cost by 90%, compare to Gasoline, whit Norwegian prices.

What the manufacturers of electric vehicles. Don't tell their customers is. The dangerous high amount of powerfull electric magnetic fields. That the batteries, generator, electric motor/motors, magnetic waves leaving wires.. Which causes cancer, DNA damage, mental problems etc.

A small nation with a tiny population and nowhere to drive...I don't call that a success.The real success in the adoption of the E.V. is the achievement of "group think" in their society. I will be convinced that the E.V. is useful on the day they make one that will get the same 400 mile range in minus 30 degree temperatures as my ICE vehicle. Until then , I don't see any practical use for an E.V. except in the city.

You idiot, the other competitors are Chinese Investors disguised as Silicon Valley companies. If you are stupid enough to kill the one American company that is able to put up a fight. China is going to have a Monopoly on BEVs and other advance energy technology. Massive lucrative potential that needs to be distributed to be fair.

That's not how Capitalism works. A Tesla is just another commodity in commodity society. A Tesla is worth more as strap metal than a car functioning on the road. This is why Elon wants to sell a car 'for the masses' to get into the channel stuffing game like GM et al, and get more grants for the next tranche of vehicles lined up for cash for the clunkers program, which the Chinese buy the metals by the pound. Your crazy and useless anarcho-capitalist perspective, probably read Zerohedge. Your view only makes sense if you ignore macro trends in the circulation of commodities and money. Try not to be so blind sided.
@Neojhun
@Neojhun 7 лет назад
"Chinese buy the metals by the pound" (facepalm) China does not use pounds as unit of weight. Problem is you will need about a Decade before there is enough Teslas for recycling industry to be viable. These BEVs drive trains are built soo tough and have no tail pipe emission, can not qualify cash for clunkers programs. Just pointing out utter idiocy.
