I recently cruised from Barcelona on the Norwegian Epic on a 7 night cruise around the Mediterranean. The Epic first sailed in 2010 and at the time, it was the 3rd largest cruise ship in the world...
It has some unique design features, and I am using the word "unique" correctly here - there is no other ship like it... I gather that Norwegian had ordered a sister ship with the same design but it was never built...
The cabin was unlike any cabin I've ever experienced and in this video I'll take you on a tour of it!

I'm looking at this config and thinking about sharing this with my husband and teenage son. If I'm getting changed after a shower, I have to pull the curtain for privacy. Then if someone opens the door to come into the room, everyone in the corridor gets to enjoy the spectacle. Lovely. Looking forward to that.

Thanks - the curtain is your friend here - there's not a lot of space in the shower or toilet although I guess it would be possible... The basin is the other side of the curtain though which is also inconvenient... You could lock hubby and son out on the balcony??? But seriously, unannounced intrusions through the main door are rare!

the benefits to that, one can shower, one can do buisness, and one can get ready by the sink...I think it's a brilliant idea!

The sofa is also the bed for the third person. My then teenaged daughter had a difficult time molding her body to the curved wall and ended up sleeping on the floor most of the time. Never again.

In three weeks I will take my second cruise on the Epic. I agree with everything you said about the bathroom(s) design. The added inconvenience for the fellow traveler is that you are trapped in the cabin whenever your fellow cruiser uses the facilities unless you want to walk in one them. Having the sink outside of the area also means that cabinmates cannot get out of the way. The Epic does have a fun set up for the bars and public areas. The Encore is my favorite ship with the large observation lounge and the large spa.

It's telling that they never repeated this design... Booked another Norwegian cruise for later this year - on the Joy... Bigger but not the biggest...

Thank God my travel agent who knows me, cautioned me about this ship. I loved the itin that it allowed but that cabin re-routed me. What a mess!! I would have not liked 10 days in this jail cell!!

It is a very unique ship that I assume NCL took a risk in terms of design and concept. The Breakaway class appears to incorporate the successful components of the EPIC (which is the only ship in that class). Having said this, I actually enjoyed the ship with its weird quirks. I'm sailing again on it. But I have a roll with it, attitude is everything personality so not much bothers me bc I'm blessed to be able to afford to cruise.

Give me a choice between the Epic or no cruise and its the Epic every time!!! Looking to go on a newer ship in a few months and I'll be fascinated to see the differences... And the similarities!

@@MattsOceans I was on the Escape in December. It's larger, newer but I thought that the food was better. I cruise the solos, mostly, and didn't like that NCL took the bar out of the newer class. I liked the wine bar and saw Malevo perform which was fantastic. The Breakaway is really nice too. It's 3 years younger than Epic. Lots of negative reviews about Epic but it's my favorite so far. I'm on it again in November.

This will really be fun for us 4 musketeer friends. We sail Jan 21, 2023. We also plan to use the showers and toilet at the gym which is at rear of our deck. We have 14023 on starboard side. Can I sleep diagonally on the balcony if I bring my air mattress? 😅

I'm an RV guy, so it seems like a descent standard. It's a place to crap, shower, and sleep. Then get out for the day. Maybe a nap on a sea day. It's probably the cheapest vessel in the fleet to sail on.

You are right that if you spend too long in your cabin, you're doing cruising wrong!!! But if you are used to certain things about other cabins, this one will come as a surprise... Even if it is cheap...

I loved the ship except for one thing, the bathroom in the cabin. Try brushing teeth in the mornings without waking the other half? Or even washing hands after using the toilet prior to going to bed? Sounds and light are both disturbances and that was a major feature of a 7 night cruise. Now extend this to friends sharing a cabin and it becomes awkward. I read a report on cruise critic by one lady who would go to the gym to shower etc because of the cabin arrangements. Thankfully the experiment wasn't repeated. And, will think very carefully before using this ship again.

Thanks for that... Crucial point is that this design was not repeated! But if you've got several hundred million dollars tied up in a ship, I guess you have to persevere with it, however odd it may be! I hope I've done my job my making people aware of the "quirks"...

Matt, If I may ask, how tall are you? The bathroom looks weirdly doable but the short bed may be the deal breaker.

I'm 6 foot 4 so well above average! It was a very short bed for me and I think it would be short for most people of average height!

Sorry but I didn't notice and none of the footage shows anything... The TVs are locked down pretty tight so I doubt they can be rigged up but never say never!

No they did not. And no legacy over the air channels either. I have been on 25+ cruises across several lines and on the Epic two weeks ago. Worse design ship ever.

I’d be willing to bet that the committee that designed this cabin had some form of the word “Innovate” in its working papers . Reminded me of an article on the Brabazon postwar British plane that was a boondoggle extraordinaire .

We sailed her in 2010. She was brand new. The cabin / bathroom configuration was an absolute show-stopper. Literally gross !

There's some good ideas behind that design - I did like all the themed entertainment venues - it just wasn't well executed and I'd need to find an amazing itinerary to go on the Epic again!
