Great video, lots of insightful info, and the trip itself wow, would love to do it too one day, that town where you took the heli ride looked insanely cool as did all the fjords and mountains, what an experience
Nice vid 👍 I’m off on the 30th and was wondering about the views from the ship as I may not get to leave the ship for the week, so this video showed that the views are going to be stunning.
Thank you for the video, very informative and well presented. we're off to Norway on Iona on the 30th, sadly some of the site experiences are all fully booked already, being our first cruise we didn’t know we had to take a decision so soon. delighted to see there's so many things to do!!
Looks like it might be a period with very shifting weather (which happens often on the west coast), so prepare rain jackets. Weather forecasts may change.
great video , we are going to the fjords April 2023 cant wait , this will be our 2nd time on Iona our first was a northern Europe tour last October (our first ever cruise) , love everything about the ship and still places to explore especially the restaurants
I can tell you were on the week before us because you had the good weather. We did the Pulpit Rock hike where we didn't see anything, Loen Skylift and a tour of Ålesund when we couldn't port at Hellesylt or Haugesund.
Great video . We have been cruising the med and Canary Islands past 8 years , But due to my electric wheelchair being damaged twice when being loaded on or off the plane , we have decided to look at sailing from Southampton instead. Probably raking in a Fjord cruise. Our only worries are how suitable are the ports/towns for wheelchair users. We gave no worries about being on ship in the chair , it’s just going ashore in new unknown ports.
Thank you! Fantastic option to sail from Southampton. I cannot speak for each port, but I know P&O Cruises will ensure you can get on/off OK, and let you know which shore experiences are suitable. But please have a chat with their customer service to be sure :)
My husband, son and i are going on the Iona soon.I am really looking forward to going up and down the fjords again. Its been a few years since we cruised.
This is incredible. I’ve just booked our first ever cruise to the Norwegian Fjords for next September. I can’t wait, I’m taking my two children who are equally as excited. Do these excursions need to be booked in advance? If so, where?
Hi great video, did you book your excursion independently? I am going in June and would love to know the price you paid for some of the excursions you did.
We went end of April beginning of May 24 it was fantastic Norwegian fjords and the Iona, we had fantastic weather 21 degrees the captain joked and said it was snowing the week before 😂
He was right though. The coldest temp measured in April 2024 was -26C. (Source for this measurement was the Bardufoss weather station, number 89350, if you just so by chance of chances is a developer and have a key for the meteorological institute's API and want to check it out for yourself.)
Great video and very informative and some great views. We are on Iona next Sept to the fjords and looking forward to it as we’ve not done a holiday like this before. We were on Azura in the Caribbean November 2018 and have booked Arica for Sept 2024 for the Med.
I plan on taking this cruise the first week of September 24. Never been to Britain or Norway and looking at your videos I’m getting excited about it. 😀 Just one question though, I’m planning on taking my mum and she can’t climb those stairs and trails. You spoke of a cable car in one spot and a mini bus on another. Is this tour a somewhat limited mobility person friendly or would it be a mistake taking my mum with?
Thanks for your very well put together video which was informative. I've only sailed twice and both times were cunard. I wanted a balcony for the fjords and as a solo passenger it works out expensive on cunard. So I've booked this afternoon a deluxe balcony mid ship as I'm not great if too much movement for two years timeas got other things booked before then. I've read quite a few negative reviews but your video has reassured me.
It was booked via the P&O Cruises Shore Experiences yes, but there isn't a link to share, you need to login to My P&O and from there you should be able to see it once booking it open. Have a great time :)
Hi Scott, we are trying to pick the right itinerary and ship for a Norwegian Fjord cruise. Did you find Iona with 5000+ passengers hard to get on and off quickly, any tender ports, and how did the small towns handle so many visitors?
So it's worth paying for balcony rather than just sea view? I was worried it would be too cold but I do like the thought of sitting out with my coffee watching that beautiful landscape
My opinion is it's definitely worth it, for the fresh air and amazing views, but it does generally cost a fair bit more. It will depend what season you travel for how cold it is! :D
Hi Scott, great video. Lots of cool adventures. We go on Saturday, can’t wait. The luxury yacht tour in your video could you please how did you book that one? Also the helicopter tour did you book that through P&O? Cheers Tim
Thanks Tim, sorry for the delayed reply! I hope you've had an amazing time. The heli tour was with P&O Cruises, but the yacht was booked privately on the ground in Norway 😊
I've booked this trip for 2024. I know in a bit early with the excursion but could you give me more info on the helicopter excursion? Was that booked within the cruise, do you have a link to it/price/limitations etc. I am going with my two children who will be 9 and 10 and I was wondering if we could all do it?
Hi Emmi! It was booked with the P&O Cruises shore experience team yes, there isn't a link available. Once they are open for booking the link will appear on My P&O, hope that helps if not perhaps customer services can send you more info. Have a great time :)
I went from the 9th to the 16th july 2022 and it was a total waste of money. Calm weather but only stopped at 3 places (due to adverse weather??). It looked like a flock of seagulls at meal times in the horizon, and to top it all off I came home with covid. A family member who has been on loads of cruise holidays said "it was the worst cruise he had ever been on and from now on he will go with Royal Caribbean.
I was on the same cruise Tony. I feel like I saw more glacial valley going for a drive through Snowdonia. Poor food. Poor entertainment. Ship reminiscent of a car ferry. No day time activities for their obviously planned 4 days at sea. I had to go to the cinema 3 times to ease the boredom. Low availability of nice beers. Pinged for covid contact from the farcical disembarkation. Immediately booked a cruise with Royal Caribbean next year out of protest.
Fantastic video, thank you. Where and how did you book the yacht tour in Stavanger? Looks amazing and that would be such a great thing to do. I hope you see this comment. Thank you
