My Panama Canal cruise was cancelled by NCL so I am in the process of booking a 12 day cruise not including Colombia or the Canal. In the Pearl which I have been on before, but my brother and i will be in an aft-facing penthouse suite which is what we had booked for the Canal cruise on the Jade. The canal area is having draught problems.
Fun! The Bliss is a great ship. Once you get farther south it will be warm, but the first few days out of LA may not be so definitely bring some layers to keep warm just in case - may be a bit chilly on the decks and at night, even as far south as Cabo. Winter weather can be a bit hit or miss in terms of the nice heat. Norwegian ships are pretty casual, so no need to bring anything fancy. People generally dress nice for dinner, but nothing too crazy and you’ll still see people in the dining room in their daytime outfits and sandals. Dress for comfort when you’re out exploring the ports, since you may do a lot of walking and want to enjoy yourself!
I've been through the Panama Canal 3 times with the US Navy in 1982 and 83. First time was what is called a Unitas cruise which went through the Canal and down and around South America and through the Magellan straits and up the east coast to Uruguay and Brazil then over to Africa to visit at least 3 towns there. The ither 2 times through the Canal were for Special Operations at the Gulf de Fonseca. Watching El Salvador and Nicaragua fight it out.
I know, it looks incredible. Whenever I do make it back to Colombia to dedicate a full trip to exploring, I will absolutely spend some time in Tayrona!!
