The funniest part is that now both Nosferatu and the book "Bram Stoker’s Dracula" are in the public domain which means the copyright doesn’t even matter.
It wasn't back then. You have to keep renewing the rights. After a certain amount of time, if it isn't renewed, it goes to public domain. That's how it works on a very basic level.

Watching Nosferatu late at night is always a treat for me. I understand watching Silent Movies in today’s day and age is a hard thing for people to do, but if you decide to go through with it, it provides an eerie feeling that not many horror movies are able to accomplish today. Movies like Nosferatu don’t really have a whole lot of information regarding their production available today, and combined with the age makes it feel less like a movie and more like an actual event recorded at some point in time. I also like to think to myself, when watching movies like Nosferatu and Cabinet of Dr Caligari that we’re not even watching actual events. Instead we’re looking into a world so close, yet so far away. A world of the dead, with the actors not being so much characters as they are spirits, stuck living a nightmare in which they can never escape.
Following the restoration of this and Metropolis over the years has been fascinating. Making each new cut a new experience. (Mainly Metropolis, but Nosferatu had some interesting ones. Like the one with a soundtrack by Type O Negative.)
I mean, that is where I first learned what it was. I was like 8 n went “mommy whose nosferatu” n it was explained to me that he’s a vampire from an old black n white movie. So I don’t know him only as a SpongeBob character, but I do p much only know him bc of SpongeBob. Everything I learned about him after was only able to be applied bc of SpongeBob. This is probably common for most folks born from ‘95 on
Common misconception. The first film adaptation of Dracula was a lost 1921 Hungarian film called “Drakula halála” (Death of Dracula) just a year before Nosferatu’s release.

Not the first adaptation, 2000's Shadow of the Vampire was technically also an adaptation, but mostly a fictional depiction of the making of the film, with Willem Dafoe as Count Orlok, who is also in this new remake in 2024.
Nosferatu isn't even the first film adaptation, there's a 1921 adaptation of Dracula, but it was lost to time. And 1922 is *9* years before 1931, not 10.
Idk how courts were back then but Nosferatu is it's own thing. While it is an adaptation of Dracula, it doesn't me tion Dracula and thr vampire is different so there should've been no court battle. That be like a court battle over Hunger Games and Battle Royale. Similar premise but different execution
The Berne Convention stipulates that the duration of the term for copyright protection is the life of the author plus at least 50 years after their death. 1912 + 50 = 1962. It became legal in 1962.
We have enough Nosfuratu remakes , I'd rather see him do a remake of The Cabinet Of Dr Calgari considering it's more up his alley & we never got a remake of that film yet!!!! Or if Edison's Frankenstein or of The Golem , all the best & creepiest silent german horror films!!!!

Cant blame some of us, I was 7, I thought it was just some funny looking dude when I first saw him on spongebob. Not my fault I wasn't allowed to watch horror back then. Now I'm old enough to understand and appreciate the character.

And the way you pronounce Nos in Nosferatu as if it's the shit you put in your car to make it to faster for 2 seconds. Same with the Bram in Bram Stoker. Its pronounced like BRAHM. He was Irish. Not American. His name came from his birth name, Abraham.
It's not exactly one of the most famous films ever made but it ranks up there with a historical film. Most people that are alive today were watching SpongeBob when they were 7 or 8 well before they were into the horror genre. Therefore it makes sense using simple statistics of population age and growth that more people would have seen this episode of SpongeBob before they even saw a Dracula film.
No he isn't. Not everyone as a child is gonna be seeing the movie, they'll most likely watch spongebob and that might be their first encounter with them until they grow up realizing he predates it. It's normal.

There are so many references to him in things like Family Guy and such, it is IMPOSSIBLE to not recognise this icon of Goth culture, seeing as the character is famous in ALL genera. Saying that you first recognise the character, this icon of the Vampire genera that is referenced even in Family Guy or American Dad, from a fucking cartoon makes you look stupid.
