The discharging tip is pretty useful to see battery use. I run 1/8 GTE and our mains are 10 minutes, need to play around with gearing a ESC settings to get enough run time and still be quick.

Great tips Alex. During stock racing charge or discharge cycle what is the maximum temperature the battery should be allowed to reach for peak performance (assuming no battery temperature rules)? Cheers.

I usually aim for 40-45 deg C external temp when charging has finished.

With everything in the United States going stock heavy and club seemingly lax over 1C charge, Lipo safe/sack, and heat rules…the hobby is just asking for some kind of catastrophe happening at a club track, warehouse, outdoor park, or someone’s house charging say at 70a that i was informed then saw ystrdy at local track. just nuts and people don’t seem to care because it sells more batteries, chargers, motors, etc. than with mod. I left knowing i wasnt coming back to racing nor showing my boys this side of hobby anymore. -U10 PS- this guy should know that 1 of the Scandinavian countries temp banned elec rc racing after nimh explosions at a big meet hurt people and causes property damage iirc. This isnt good folks.

Hi Alexander. Thank you for the detailed video. Does all this apply (and is it recommended) for GT8 series? I use 10'000mAh IP LIHV batteries? So i would charge at 40A until 4,35V and discharge at 40A till 3,3V. Ideal storage 3,9V? a bit delayed comment, but hope you read/answer it. Thank you. Great work on your channel. (really considering 1/10 scale for the winter season)

Hello, I don't have any experience with the GT8 class. However- based on the amount of amp draw and stress on the batteries in this class, I would charge them at a more moderate rate. I also would not discharge them to try and heat them up.

Hey mate, thanks for the vid. I’m new to Rc. I was racing 20 years ago running nimh. So, with lipo tech the rule for charging amps at capacity of battery doesn’t apply? (Ie: 6000mah battery to be charged at max 6amps). I’m about to charge my nosram hv lipo 4600 mod / 6200 graphene 4.1. I should charge these at 10amps from my charger? Thanks

Hello! For the best longevity, charge at 9-10A. For the most performance but shorter life, charge (and discharge) at a higher rate!

Hi Alex! Thnk you for another very interesting video! 😁👍So on a race day , stock for example, do you cycle the battery before each time you go to the track? Thanks!

I only cycle them if they haven't been used for a month or so. Otherwise, the first cycle will be for the first run of the day.

I don't get it. Lipos should NEVER get discharged to 3.3volts a cell. Lipo is considered empty at 3.7v/cell. Period. That's a sure way to kill your batteries! I've discharged my brand new Pulse 5500mAh batteries in my jet to 3.3volts a cell because I wasn't paying attention. Two weeks later I went to fly again and after I landed the battery was at around 3.7v/cell but it was all puffed! Why are you not talking about C ratings and capacity? Some noob is going to watch this and will try to discharge a low C rating lipo 40amps and it'll catch fire.

So I run VTA class 25.5 turn blinky mode .. I just bought an Icharger and I’m running Trinity white carbon 5900 mah 2s packs. I can charge them at 40 amps ? For real ?
@hagberg
@hagberg 9 месяцев назад
Yes sir! You can certainly charge them at 40A, like I mentioned in the video, as this will improve performance, but it will also shorten the life of the battery pack!

@@hagberg thanks for getting back to me I really appreciate it ! how much are we talking about? cutting the lifespan in half ? Would a different brand battery last longer charging at 40a ?

@@Loose_Lucy Nosram packs hold up exceptionally well even after being pounded at 40A for many weekends of racing. No puffing/ballooning. I can't speak for other brands, but I would say that the life is shortened by at least 25%.

Hello @Alexander! As much as I know and what I have learned at university and school at physics, that resistance rises with temperature, so how can it be that, temperature in batteries reduces the internal resistance?

@@HL-OOI 2C is absolutely fine, even though, charging more than 1C isn't necessary for modified since you'll have enough punch with 1C. 2C charge vs. 1C won't significantly affect the lifetime of the pack.

sure seems like a lot of abuse to the battery just to warm it. why not use some kind of external heater to warm the batteries other than trying to make a fireworks show out of them.

Wow it seems like you figured it all out. I wonder why? This method was tested,and guess what. It was three tenths faster per lap. It would not matter to a Joe like you,but when you consistently make the A and are battling for podiums every week it matters.
