For years now, YEARS, I have told people about this very particular section in the 9th, this exact section where the clip starts playing, from 12s to 17s, as one of the most amazing things I know in music. Yes, I realise I'm talking about 6s of music and sound crazy. It's impossible to describe, it sounds like it's asking a question and then faltering. I have said to people that this single phrase is the nearest thing i can think of to an explanation of God! It must be that Tarkovsky also sees something in this part, why would he chose this exact part from the entire Ninth.
Ivan, listen to the music and read the comments. The movie "Nostalghia (1983), dir. Andrei Tarkovsky was created by genius and the music was written by genius. One of them was Russian, like you, and one of them was German.
2:08 ; ANY singer in the whole wide world that in any point of their live has sung (??? sorry if it's not the right tense, i'm still learning) Beethoven's 9th symphony will ache at the fact that he CUT in this exact moment. The fugue is tremendously beautiful yet quite challenging, so for singers it's ALWAYS a delight to hear it xD i would want to slap Tarkovsky, but at the same time congratulate him for having such an unapologetical(?) mind.
