Fire! No more worries!
Safety is not only a requirement on a nostalgia front engine dragster, but also a must when it comes to protecting myself in the event of a fire. Nobody wants to get burned, especially at a high rate of speed. So, what did Jimmy and I do to help mitigate that risk? Well, we installed a Stroud fire suppression system on the J&J Speed and Machine "Jumping Jack Flash" nostalgia front engine dragster. The system we chose is a two-nozzle system, one to assist in putting out a fire on the engine, and the other one for the driver's cockpit. 2 Hacks Garage likes to go fast, but we like to do it safely! The kit came with everything needed and the installation was a breeze!
In addition to installing the fire safety system, I continued to work on the wiring. There really isn't much to wire, transbrake solenoid, shifter solenoid, tachometer, and the starter button. This is a pretty simple task, but believe it or not, space is limited. You have to make sure no wires are hanging loose, away from the driver's feet, and away from heat. Wiring does take time, and you must be prepared. I have a lot of terminal kits, different gauge wire, a fuse block, and all the tools needed to complete the task. One thing you will learn when wiring up a dragster, zip ties are your friend! Jimmy and I have our "to do" list and every day that list is getting shorter. We are getting so close to firing up Jimmy's real fine 409 small block Chevy, doing massive burnouts, and having a lot of fun going to vintage drag racing events and blasting down the dragstrip in old school cool fashion! But for now, we are focused on the little things! Stay tuned though, a lot of cool content is on the way, be there or be square!
