Roadtrip!!!! As if I am not already busy enough, no sleep and 24/7 go go go all the time. To be honest, I have always been that way and really would have it no other way. This video is no different. Jimmy and I have been making a lot of progress on our nostalgia front engine dragster, Jumping Jack Flash. It is really starting to come together, and we are not that far off from hitting the dragstrip and making some licensing passes. I cannot wait to drag race this rocket on wheels! But for now, I must remain focused on completing this project.
First off, I like to drive, I really like to drive. I can drive for hours on end! Put on some good tunes and just hit the road! That is exactly what I did in this video. I live in Central Illinois, two hours south of Chicago and two hours north of St. Louis, I am right in the middle of the state. I left my house and headed due east to Monticello, Indiana to drop off my body panels to get lettered up. The guy doing my lettering is named Ed, he has been doing this type of work for decades. How did I find him? Well, that's an easy answer, he painted John Copes shop truck, and the work is amazing! Speaking of John, after I left Ed's, I drove about two hours northwest to pick up my Powerglide for the dragster. Him and Lucas did a tear down on it and gave it the thumbs up! After leaving John's, I drove about thirty minutes to the one and only famous US 30 Dragstrip! It has been closed for decades, but the track is still there. That track was famous, all the big names raced there! Of course, I took some video and soaked in all the sights!
So what did I do after leaving there? Well, I was hungry and needed something to eat! So I drove about two hours to the northwest side of Chicago to Elmwood Park and hit Johnnie's Beef for a hot Italian sandwich, a must have if you are in the area! After eating some amazing food, I decided to head to O'Hare airport to pickup my family, they have been in Alaska. But wait! I made another stop, Gene and Jude's, they have amazing food! I ordered a Chicago style hot dog and fries, it was pretty good! As you can see, I am a food nerd! Okay, now I can head to the airport and get my family. Twenty minutes later, I was sitting at the international terminal editing this video. Once they landed, back on the road! Due to traffic, I was home three hours later and ready for some sleep.
The next morning, up early and I worked my normal day to day job, which is nothing automotive related but pays the bills. Once I got off of work, back to Jimmy's! I didn't do a lot, but I did get the all the steering linkage and radius rods re-installed, I had to repaint them. I also took care of some other odds and ends and Jimmy and I planned our next steps. Pretty soon you will see an engine in this car and some old school hand lettered panels back on the car! Yep, I will be taking another road trip! Be there or be square!
