I was worried we were going to see a Travis Kelce super bowl meltdown for a moment but cooler heads prevailed. I love seeing people helping people when most needed. Great video
Just constantly amazes me how talented David is, in so many different areas! What is wonderful is seeing him suss something out, see how it was originally done and then replaces the part! Bravo! I can’t imagine the headaches you would go through if he wasn’t so extremely talented!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR RATTLE SNAKES, 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I wish I could see what you see out there. But no trees, no water, just desolate. But if you love it, soak up!
I’m 21 about to be 22, and this is absolutely incredible. My grandparents recently picked up a tow behind 26fter but haven’t gone anywhere yet. I sent them your videos and they love them. It’s cool to see what necessities y’all have and use daily and what problems you encounter. I’m sure others have videos like this but this feels like family interaction it’s amazing. Nothing to hide only stuff to learn!!
This is brilliant. You spend 6 months in Alaska and it doesn't snow, but you go to the Mojave desert and run into a blizzard 😂😂. Can't wait until next week.
It didn't look like you're power divider was in when you were stuck. Just the rear axle was spinning. It still may not have helped in the sand. Luckily you found a friendly camper to help. I love your channel, you both are very entertaining.
With a power divider - the power would go to the opposite side, front axle (that's the reason for the 'X' symbol on the switch). Only with full lock up (rare on highway tractors - usually on off road such as dump trucks or log haulers) would you see power to both axles on the same side.
@@rpc6414 thanks, i am only used to having power dividers on dump trucks. I assumed they all worked the same as that. Pretty pointless having it if they don't work like a full diff lock then. I couldn't believe David got stuck if the truck had a proper diff lock. It should have easily driven away once engaged in that situation.
Dave you are aloud to blow your top now & again. You usually are very patient & are very clever guy. Sondra you are lucky to have him as a husband. Looking forward to the Mojave Desert, can't wait. Have a great Easter. Cheers
Thank you for your kind words and support of the Channel! Yes, I am very grateful to share this wonderful life with my the love of my life and best friend. Some people think David's "tantrum" was off-putting, but as you know, he's a happy-go-lucky person and rarely gets mad about anything. I knew he just needed to vent and I was there for him. I never felt like it was directed at me - obviously since I was having fun with it. 😊
We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Very grateful for your kind comments. Thanks for being a part of the story.
When you start the Volvo you should turn the key on and then wait until the engine light goes off before you turn the key to the start position. This lets the engine get ready to start.
One can get a bit heated when you're flat out STUCK, I've been there! Handy man extraordinaire David once again displaying his skills. Very interesting scenery to amaze us AND a snowstorm in the Mojave Desert. What more could one want in an episode? As usual I'm looking forward to next week's offering.
@@bigtruckbigtravels Funny you said that because I just watched a vid from CBS 8 San Diego archives regarding snow in San Diego!! I found a news article you may enjoy: From the Evening Tribune, Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1967: A nasty storm slashed into San Diego County today with plunging temperatures, snow, sleet and freezing winds. Bizarre snowstorms were reported throughout the county. Light snow fell near the Mexican border and in downtown San Diego, and heavy snowstorms struck widespread areas. On top of Palomar Mountain the snow measured 2 feet deep by noon, “and that’s in the level areas,” said Mrs. Tom Miller, wife of the Palomar State Park ranger. “It’s stopped snowing now, but it’s still overcast and the wind cuts right through you,” she said. The park temperature at noon was 18 degrees. The sky cleared over many areas of San Diego by late morning, but blustery winds whipped through the air with a knife-light sting. The scene was repeated throughout Southern California, although a dry, windy Santa Ana condition had been forecast by weathermen. The storm, carrying extremely cold air, swept down from Canada and had been expected to pass through Nevada and move out to sea over Baja California. “We knew the storm was there, but we didn’t expect it to hit us like this,” said weatherman Kurt Muerdter. All schools, both elementary and secondary, were closed today because of the snow in the Fallbrook Union, Julian Union and Mountain Empire Unified districts. Borrego Springs and Alpine schools stayed open. Officials said they would let the weather decide whether the schools would open tomorrow. Heavy snow was reported in such unusual areas as the community of Rainbow just south of Temecula on U.S. 395. The storm dumped 6 inches of snow there and reduced traffic to a crawl. There were so many minor accidents that law enforcement officials were forced to tell people to move on and file reports later. Chains were required in most mountain highways. Three inches of snow fell on the desert community of Borrego Springs. “It’s the first time I’ve seen that,” said longtime resident Duke Pendley. For the second time in history, snow was observed at the weather bureau’s office at Lindbergh field. Snow fell there once before - on Jan. 11, 1949. “It’s most unusual,” said Muerdter. Thunderheads to the north forced Lindbergh Field to reroute its traffic. Most departing aircraft took off over the city rather than over Loma Portal, their normal flight pattern.
I was the neighbor in the pickup camper as you came in. We were there to do some night photography but the clouds, rain, snow and wind kinda killed that plan! I never expected to be in snow in the Mojave desert!
Great video, great music! I would not have expected snow in the Mojave desert! Definitely would come back to this awesome landscape. Safe travels, don‘t get stuck again, thank god to your shovel 😅.
That went too fast! I loved seeing that snow in the desert. Weird stuff happening. Loved seeing that you all have issues just like anyone else and you just are so prepared that you handle them with ease …mat least one camera. That’s for the entertainment. Happy Easter and safe travels.
I've always admired how David is always so chilled and calm. It was a refreshing change to see him a little rattled when you got stuck, he is actually human 😅. Love your content keep it up and keep them wheels rolling (sorry no pun) travel safe!
Thank you. It was very frustrating since we spent a lot of money to add the tandem drive axles... and we still got stuck! Nice neighbor saved the day. We'll get the drives worked out. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
What an awesome adventure 😎 Thanks for taking us along. It's been a long time since I visited the Snake River, we were there to watch Evil Knievel jumped the Snake River a lifetime experience 😎😎
❤you're lifestyle ! It has always been a dream /fantasy of ours to something similar . I must give major kudos to the photography.Absolutely fantastic! A ❤ for us are wolves (❤ your pics! ) In fact it's what prompted me to comment! ❤ of horses of course ❤ the landscape and sleepy towns. As a child and teenager I made several crosscountry travels with my lovely parents and brother who 90 percent of the time we got along with each other famously and had lots of laughs especially at some of the outrageous names of places! Thank you for taking the time to read my little note. I hope you're able to keep on trucking for a long, long time.
Thank you for watching the channel. We're excited to be able to share our experiences with everyone. It's great when our video's elicit memories others have of their experiences. It makes this journey more special. Glad you enjoyed it and yes, we're just getting started.
Just sad that you just had the full lock diff installed and gets stuck in desert! Not in a snow bank or mud no soft ground!! Stay safe and thanks for the great video!! And made us finally see David as an human who can lost it too!!🤪👍🥰
Hey Marco! Thank you for your kind words and understanding. We really appreciate all your wonderful support of the Channel. Yes, David getting mad is a rare event indeed!
I had to chuckle at David's expense with the stuck situation. Glad to see I'm not the only one that temper arises from getting in that situation. Mine was in Rodanthe (NC OBX) moving on the sound side to a spot from the first one assigned to me for the reason of too much soft sand! So I was able to move to another one that looked...looked like a pull through (not just a back in) and my Class A had to find the only soft spot on that lot my feet did not when I walked it! Thankfully I got it out with the help of some wood planks found nearby (hint-I wasn't the only one who must have fell victim there). I did manage to get another lot and spent the next 30 days there. Funny how something like that can spike the blood pressure! Glad all was well with some friendly help. And yes, the desert can be a strange place with it's weather. You'll survive!
Hey KB, thanks for the comment. I was obviously chuckling too and making fun of the situation saying I'm fired. David quickly calmed down and we both had a good laugh over it. Thanks for all your support on the Channel, we really appreciate it! 😊
The neighbors look out and see you guys coming and say "Honey there goes the neighborhood". LOL!! They just thought that they were out in the wilderness!!!!! Great video as always. Thanks.
😆 🤣 😂 we don't exactly slip in undetected either. People move because they think we'll be running our generator all day... until they see me raise the solar panels!
Lol. It helps that David and I are best friends and have been married for 35 years. 🥰 we know each others limits and how much space to give each other. 😊 Thanks for the comment and watching the Channel 😊
We just show our life on the road. Usually pretty smooth but as with any road, an occasional pothole. Excited to have you along on the journey. Appreciate your comments.
(To the tune of Jingle Bells) Jauntin'' through the cold, in the sands of Mojave, Stickers and t-shirts, Hole rocks on Ring Trail. David can't get out, Sondra calmed him down, For yet another travel day weird happenings abound. (Chorus) Oh! Don't do this! Heed the signs. Stay in warm Lake Mead. You wouldn't need them gauntlet drapes in Moj where it snows in feet, Ay! (repeat) Safe travels and see y'all next Thursday, God's willing.👍🏾🙏🏾
Glad you got out ok. Good thing you had that extra part for the compartment door. I do the same thing, if something breaks like that, I will end up buying an extra one just in case.
Thanks, Russ. It was fortunate that it broke earlier and I had the part and the know how to repair it. Hope your travels are going well too. Great meeting up the other day.
I have an International 4700 mid duty tow truck to tow my travel trailer. Our combined weight is 26,500 #. Last spring at Lake Havasu and was not careful and rear tires bogged down. Like you, after a couple hours of shoveling another camper stopped and helped pull me out. We had to separate the truck from the trailer to get them out separately. Heavy rigs have a lot of advantages but do not get them stuck. I have since purchased an off road travel trailer and looking for a good person to buy my old rigs.
#BigTruckBigTravels channel is now my most favorite RV channel! Why?? The video content, the still photos, of course. Now, Sondra found the most perfect tee shirt for her….camera. 😊. And, David’s quote from Die Hard! 😂😂 Entertaining for sure. ❤❤
Thanks, Yvette. That t-shirt was perfect for Sondra so she "had" to get it. Glad she did. We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.
Thank you so much! Heading your way... eventually! Every once in awhile you hit a pothole on a smooth road. Irritated at the company who did our axel work. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for keeping it real! Too many channels only show roses and not the thorns......I think you do a service showing that the lifestyle does have its trials and tribulations. I can understand the frustration with the situation and wasn't directed towards anybody.
I was raised in Palmdale, Calif not far from Mojave desert. The only thing we had to live is the Mojave Green Rattle Snake, that’s what you needed to watch for those big guys
Just stumbled upon y’all… you had me at Im pulling with a Volvo !! 🙌🏻 stunning setup, you got me with your energy, fixing on the fly, and honest portrait of RV life.
Hello guys, what a day you guys had, I’m glad you had extra parts for that door,be safe out there guys. May god bless you guys. Love watching your videos.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I worked side by side with my hubby doing siding and windows for 30 years. Wish I had a dollar for every time that he “fired” me and told me to go sit in the truck 🤣 It was usually met with me flipping him the bird and me pounding nails harder🤣🤣 Watching all that transpired with you guys in this episode was so entertaining. And I thought we were the only ones that weird things happen to! Good to see you guys taking it all in stride and carrying on!👍🏼💪🏼 Also, we lived in the high desert area of Burns, Oregon and we used to get lots of snow. The desert is so very beautiful with snow gracing the rocks and sagebrush! Thanks again for taking us all along! Safe travels! (Once you dig out of the snow🤣)❤️~Wendy
Great video. We loved the weather coming in. Sorry you all got stuck. Glad you got 'er out! Hole in the wall looks like a great campground. Enjoyed the walk video, rain snow and cold in the Mojave - very nice.
Love your videos 😊 I don't know if you have them in America, but here in Australia, we have maxtracs that are awesome when you have troubles with soft ground, mud, snow and sand etc. Congrats on 40k
I was surprised the first time it happened... now I'm prepared. They should make them better. We thought about duct tape but I just decided to fix it there. Thanks
I always look at being delayed as a God thing, a wreck or tragedy He's keeping me out of. Although, I know better than to try to talk to or ask a question of my husband when he's near breaking point! 😊 I loved seeing the snow bustle in! Always enjoy your videos & photography! God bless, safe travels! Happy Easter. ✝️
Hey Sally, totally agree ✝️ We are always grateful for these times when we are held back. David and I have been married for 35 years and e rarely gets mad and is annoyingly mild mannered about everything. We are best friends and I know how much space he needs and when. Plus I need to not let him see me laugh when he gets mad. 🤭 Thanks for the comment and watching the Channel. 😊
Was it a soft spot and it sank or a rut? I’m glad you had a friendly neighbor that helped you out. That’s nice! Yes, if you own a RV…it’s always something. Carrying tools and extra parts is a must as well as being handy. I hope the rest of your trip is uneventful. Take care!
Well.... it was a soft spot covered in gravel. When I felt Voyager slip, I stopped and tried to back up, and while failing to do so, I turned the wheel which dug Voyager down even deeper. 🫣 I now know not to turn the wheel while in a soft spot and not moving 🥴😇 Thanks for the comment and watching the Channel 🙂
It don't look like you engaged the differental lock. Should be air toggle switch for diff. Lock. That makes both axles drive. With out it only the rear axle drives. NEVER drive down highway with diff.lock engaged.
We engaged the locker but the Traction Control may not have been turned off. The front axles behaved improperly based on the design. May have to make a call.
Gee, being with you both, is like being there in person. What a wonderful way to travel.....living in bed, watching you two walking, climbing, shivering and then relaxing , once back at your travelling home... I will never have the opportunity to do any of this personally, being in South Africa with our Mickey Mouse Money... To conclude.... I love your videos...
Thank you, Neill. We've talked about visiting South Africa sometime. Sondra loves wildlife. Glad you enjoyed it and excited to have you along on the journey. 😊
I grew up in Douglas, AZ, 4,000 foot elevation in the Sulphur Springs Valley, and it was not uncommon for us to get about an inch of snow in the winter. We had to hurry outside to try and build a snowman before the snow melted. It was usually gone by the next day unless we were successful in building our snowman. Then he would last awhile longer. I can't tell you how many times I wished for a white Christmas. Of course, that never happened until I moved to KY.😊 I just wanted to remind you to check out the Chiricahua Mountains, especially Chiricahua National Monument. The rock formations are pretty spectacular.
I really enjoy your videos. I like to be in the SoCal deserts in any kind of weather. When it's windy and cold just I just stay in the motorhome and enjoy the views out the windows.
Wow, we were so lucky when leaving when we did a couple weeks ago, going from southern Arizona to western Canada, we didn't hit any snow, and really not that much rain! Timing is everything it seems, so we just lucked out. Safe travels all!!
Take the GPS out of the window, turn off the power and let it sit for 2 hours with the back panel open. It may have just over heated. Then turn it on using the internal battery only, if it comes to life give it a 1/2 hours to run on the battery. Then connect the external power source. If the unit keeps going to a black screen. Connect to the computer to do a internal scan and a update check, and let it go through the check system. Hope this works for you. John
Amigos, the next time you have the problem of falling into a hole, try to get out in reverse since your RV. It will have more torque, make the excavation longer towards the teaser part
Maybe next time try dumping the air in the air bags any time your off road & unhooked till you get to hard pavement, reason being is with air in the bags when you are empty the bag like in flat, so to check this leave the air in the bags then put the truck in gear then give it some throttle then watch the truck rear go up at this point no weight on the axels, so emptying the air bags it acts like a solid axel
We dumped the airbags after we got stuck so maybe not soon enough. Probably need to look at a slightly more aggressive tread design for the tires as well. Thanks
@@bigtruckbigtravels only if you are going be off road a lot, most lug tires don't fare very well on pavement, also try not to turn the steering wheel when in static mode always move the vehicle a little before trying to turn the wheel, cuz to much pressure on the steering parts + you can break the frame that's why they moved the steering box out on the end if the frame it used to be just in front of your feet but drivers were turning the steering wheel statically then the frame would break right there, so you can see the problem with that + $$$%
At 32:47 are those two UAP/UFO'S ...Rain droplets, reflection?? I view Being delayed a blessing in disguise. Many times I unfortunately came upon bad accidents. It could have been me in those wrecks if I had not been delayed. Safe travels! Really enjoy your vids being practically bed ridden waiting for back surgery #4. Keep'em coming!
I spent a few years in Mojave dessert at China Lake/Ridgecrest. It would snow at least once a winter and it was below freezing. Mojave is a “high dessert” so yes it snows. lol.
What a different day you have had‼️ It is sure good you are handy at fixing things on your big rig David ‼️Talk about bleak land- sure different land than you are used to driving through‼️ That was quite a canyon you hiked through‼️ Did they warn you about snakes? And then to even get snow‼️ Your footage of the snow clouds moving through was great👍
