The same could be said about the highwaymen. Country's version of a super group. All remarkable in their solo careers and esteemed as a group.

After all this time I am afraid I have to agree. At least we where born in the era to experience this.

They even changed the group name to be able to record together.

I rolled past 70 last Nov. You are correct about Mr. Orbison. An operatic voice extraordinaire. And the Wilburies were the greatest supergroup in history.

Truly these members passed on. They sleep till the return of Jesus 2 bring home God's children the traveling wilburies will ride again in the kingdom of God.. no offense here. Or there. Clean & with power in their songs as well.

Their voices all 2gether were what was great. Each a great voice United with other great voices. GREATER BC THEY WERE ALL 2GETHER. THEY WILL RIDE AGAIN IN GODS KINGDOM. OMG THANK U SO MUCH 4 BEAUTIFUL VOICES IN AGREEMENT. THE POWER THE ENERGY. B4 GOD. 4EVERMORE.

I just turned 70 and I so agree with you! At least we can say we remember this wonderful collaboration of the best musicians ever!

There's also a video of Jeff Lynne describing how George said to him let's start a group and they kept coming up with names like Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, as if it was so absurd that they could even do that. But I also heard the story how it was by chance that they wound up in Dylan's recording studio.🤔

And also how they got Tom into it because they needed to pass by his hous3 to pick a up George's guitar. Crazy!

I've always been thankful for the Wilburys - they're the Rock n Roll equivalent of when The Three Tenors got together, without the snide looks and competition. The way they cooperated and grinned through it all - why can't we make the whole world work together like these guys? Alright, New Religion time!

They obviously were deeply hurt when he died, right during making an album, but George said they would have had Roy sing more lead if they knew they were going to lose him. Did you know Roy turned down the king of rock title cause he wanted his friend Elvis to be the king.?

I'm listening. Had Roy lived a little longer, who knows what this incredible band could have achieved. They needed him and unfortunately his premature death reduced the magic. But he and they will be remembered forever and I'm educating son's and grandchildren to respect their music.

@@classicrockfan8034 Tom Petty said they were not happy with the song. So Jeff stayed up all night, wiped everything except Roy's vocal and re-wrote the song around the vocal, then they loved it. Tom literally says that he doesn't know anyone who could do what Jeff did on this song.🤷👍

Yup! Just image the music. Maybe Beethoven, Mozart and the Wilburys. Who knows.😄Live music has always been my favorite and I got to hear some of the greatest. I grew up in NYC, went to the Brooklyn Fox, where Chuck Berry first danced across the stage with Lucile, his guitar. Saw Roy. Got to go to Lennon's last birthday party at a place called HOME, across Central Park from the Dakota. Lived around Dylan and when I saw him at a place sort of looked over him. I told him that some day school children would study his lyrics, just like we studied the great poets. Then he got the Nobel Prize. I worked in "the best Blues Joint in NYC" when some guy from Esquire wrote about it and ruined it all. Sundays, little kids would jam with the grownups and teach them a lesson. I was truly blessed. Musicians love playing with other musicians and listening to that is my idea of heaven. Thank God for ears.
