@@TheFpCassini Oh indeed that would have been amazing. I would love to hear what Clapton could have played over those chord changes. There are some cool bootleg shows when Clapton toured with Roger Waters. Heard them?
A hymn to humanity survives! The planet needs Bob Dylan"s voice that became a rare instrument which only he knows how to use it! Wishing a very succesful concert soon! LONG LIFE BOB DYLAN FOREVER YOUNG MUSIC! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR LEGACY! 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Clapton’s minimalist but very mindful approach steers this song in all the right directions. Wherever Dylan went, Eric resolved beautifully. Superb performance by all.
@@joekilday1797 Yeah there is only one Bob Dylan and there will always be only one Bob Dylan - a true original who literally changed music forever. Perhaps the greatest American export ever., Dylan's music almost makes up for what American imperialism and the deeds of the CIA have done over the years.
Came back for another look. Such a wonderful performance. Bob at the top of his game. Clapton looking on in wonder. Bob not phased by that...playing his heart out. And vocally perfect. I do so miss Bob standing centre stage with his guitar...iconic. Behind a keyboard off to the side can never be the same. In two hundred years people will be listening to these songs and wondering what it was like to live in Dylan's time....much as we do now looking back on Shakespeare. Bob will never die.....please.........
"Looking on in wonder" is right. It must be extraordinary for anyone who understands to play with him. Privilege, voluntary submission, recognition, eclipse, homage. Awe. And yes, he knows it and has lived with it since his early twenties.
@@hmao4466 As Christopher Ricks pointed out some decades ago ("....that most Dylanesque of writers, Shakespeare....") If you've not read his *Dylan's Visions of Sin*, you have a treat in store.
Having seen several live performances of Bob Dylan I can confirm that it is really something special for the people who play with him on stage. They seem to be absolutely focused on him, his every move, every change of key, every change of phrases. Seems he has a magnetic aura. I even think he challenges them on their professionalism. If you are playing with Bob, you have to perform at your best.
I didn"t read all the comments but I was surprised no one mentioned Steve Gadd on drums....he kept it right where it needed to be. Great performance from Bob....he was feelin' it!
His voice is his instrument as well. He has sung beautifully when it befits the song (Nashville Skyline). He sings with emotions and personality. And he sings with grit, but he has never missed the correct note!!!
I am knocked off my feet with the mastery from Bob Dylan’s iconic song and with Clapton and the band along nothing goes wrong! Thanks for this sharing! 🎸🎶👏🎤💯💞🤩
… Shadows are fallin' and I've been here all day It's too hot to sleep and time is runnin' away Feel like my soul has turned into steel I've still got the scars that the sun didn't heal There's not even room enough to be anywhere It's not dark yet but it's gettin' there … Well, my sense of humanity has gone down the drain Behind every beautiful thing there's been some kind of pain She wrote me a letter and she wrote it so kind She put down in writin' what was in her mind I just don't see why I should even care It's not dark yet but it's gettin' there … Well, I've been to London and I been to gay Paris I've followed the river and I got to the sea I've been down on the bottom of the world full of lies I ain't lookin' for nothin' in anyone's eyes Sometimes my burden is more than I can bear It's not dark yet but it's gettin' there … I was born here and I'll die here against my will I know it looks like I'm movin' but I'm standin' still Every nerve in my body is so naked and numb I can't even remember what it was I came here to get away from Don't even hear the murmur of a prayer It's not dark yet but it's gettin' there
When Bob and his Fender took over about 3 minutes in for a lovely, tender lead solo, for some reason my thoughts turned to the death of Our Friend and his, Tom Petty, and of the Traveling Willburys. I thought of the haunting simplicity of the Anglo-American folk and mountain music traditions ... and of Bob getting booed at the Newport Folk Festival when he dared strap a Fender on ... funny how things go.
Seems like my soul has turned into steel.. still got the scars that the sun didn't heal. Think what you want.. this is one of Dylan's greatest songs. I was born here and I'll die here.. against my will. Don't even hear the murmur of a prayer. Love how Dylan's "theme guitar" always changes. That's why we always think it sounds "different". Who ever had a career "after fifty" resembling Bob's? But could say that about "before fifty" too. And the envelope says...
Never seen the words written out,but I always wondered if it was “son” instead of “sun” in reference to Bobs religious beliefs . Like the Son of god didn’t heal his scars.
At 1:09 when Dylan turns up the volume on his guitar is so cool. ... The fact that Dylan takes all the solos in this song while he has Eric freaking Clapton on stage is so funny! Dylan is such an interesting performer!
Dylan amazes the greatest. Clapton looking on to Dylan and learning from him. I became a Dylan fan when i was 14 and still until this day. His contribution to society is immeasurable.
was he looking at clapton for reassurance or showing him that less is better? he eventually plays some duds at the end but it was his song and his performance and he owned it.
Thank you sooo much Bob Dylan for your attention and kindness with me showing that love and hate come together but love may be stronger than hate coming from Heaven to us such a special show at the last century.❤❤❤
Brilliant songwriting from the most brilliant writer. Every word and note carefully chosen. If he had sung "it's getting dark, but it's not dark yet,' it would be the same literal meaning, but the tone of near-despair would be completely different, and the darkness is reinforced by the melody, with the cadence descending at the end of each line, until his gravelly voice sounds like it's falling into a bottomless pit.
Don't know how I missed this one until now. It could be the best electric playing by Dylan I've seen. You know you're doing something right if Clapton lays out. Not to mention his absolute commitment to the vocal phrasing of the lyric, another poetic masterpiece of stunning depth and beauty.
Looking at a phenomena a spectacle a veritable marvel, the like which we'll never see again once he's gone and yet all these years I've never seen him, not even once.

The man is a monument to performance poetry . As we listen to his profound, plaintive voice, on earth -- he is above in the pantheon of 20 / 21 st century artists. This is an ineffable delight to watch ; Clapton forms the Cheery On Top !
The new day is opening here and a beautiful child flew through the air. He picked up a guitar and played all the tunes while the white rabbit danced in the light of the moon. The chess pieces seem fixed aligned by the wall but send all who are listening a new fiddler's tune from the highest mountains you will hear his song that will give you peace and the strength to go on.
Love everything about this...zim the man on lead..and playing outside . Can't wait for Scofield to cover this....righteous humility in epic portions Carve on maestros
How do real musicians do what they do? Every one of them supports the other. They sense what the other will do and add to the depth. It all works so well. This is a great example of musicians working together to create memorable music.
I love you so much ❤️, you are a beautiful person and God Bless you and your music 🎵🎶🎵, from God, I'm so thankful God 🙏 put you in our lives, thank you , Bob Dylan, I love you ❤️♾️🎸🎸🎸Beth
I just discovered this great track while watching a Netflix show After Life. It was an opening track on S2 episode3. I have now found three other artists cover of this song and each are unique. Bob's original version is always the best. At least he had some singing voice on this one
