It’s like when I realized “I’m an adult, I can buy a cake whenever I want!” And then immediately learned why adults don’t eat whole cakes all the time …

Me and my family do this thing were we visit each other partly to eat cake. We eat a full cake, maybe 4 people and then we don't eat cake for a few weeks. I don't think msot of my family has caught on, but it's literally the way it's presented. "Oh, grandma! We're coming to see you!" "I'll make a cake!" Or "Should we pick up a cake?" "Sure"

I was brought up to finish my plate when i wasn't even the one to choose what and how much went on my plate. Now i let my 9 year olds fill their plate and let them decide when they are full. They can always get a little more if they're are still hungry but i don't force them to finish the plate. It's not my fault other kids are hungry and making kid me or my kids unhealthy won't fix that

I’m finally past the rebelling against dieting phase, but I need to work on portion sizes. I also need to get back to drinking more water. When I was dieting, I would fill up a 64 oz huge water jug & drink two of those a day. Now, I rarely even meet 64 oz. It’s hard to find a healthy balance between not caring and caring about your health without it being toxic.

I love intuitive eating! Yesterday I had a big bowl of salad and some shrimp for dinner. For a snack later I had an apple and cheese. Felt pretty good. Cold food in the heat of summer is nice, and the choices felt healthy. Today I said screw the concept of healthy. I needed. NEEDED. pasta. Had a fat bowl of chili Mac and after letting it sit for a while I think I may have another and a big glass of water. I keep dark chocolate and Popsicles in the house in case I get a craving for sweets, and we keep frozen bean burritos for my bf who is really bad about waiting until he is downright starving to start eating unless I put food in front of him. He also doesn't sleep well and likes a good midnight snack. Last night I think he had a banana at 4am

This is so true. I gave up diet culture after being obsessed with my weight and everything I ate since middle school. I had a solid 3 months of not weighing myself and making food choices based on intuition instead of dieting and I definitely rebelled like this video. After realizing I still felt like crap I started the trick where you say “I want “x,” what can I add to “x” to make it more fulfilling and nutritious” aka I want a buttery toast for breakfast every morning and adding an egg on top and a side of berries gives me my buttery toast but also keeps me full till lunch and makes me feel better!!

Finally on the intuitive eating train 🚂 I couldn't fully control what I ate growing up until I learned how to cook as an adult. Once I moved out and in with my boyfriend we had an indulgent field day! it was so much fun! now we're learning to intuitively eat and fuel our bodies while not demonizing foods like pasta or breads. As we've listened to our bodies we're starting to incorporate walks into our daily habits that we hope will transition into more impactful work outs as we raise our stamina! We would also both like to lose the 15 lbs we gained 😅 15 lbs of love! We're in it together to get healthy and happy for the rest of our lives together and can already see the positive effects. Stay strong on your journey everyone!! ❤

That's what I mostly do, too. Like, I try to make a point to keep an eye on when the last time I had a fruit or a protein was, but if I want to have a slice of pizza for dinner, I'm going to have pizza for dinner. If I feel like I need to snack on an apple, I'll have an apple. I find that usually whatever I'm craving is directly related to what I need. Craving pretzels/chips? I probably need salt. Craving carrots? It's been a hot minute since I had some veg. It seems to work pretty well, for me.

Idk, it's a journey. You don't just wake up one day and start eating intuitively, you have to learn it. Ideally you'd learn from the moment you start eating solids, but we can't choose how we were raised, so our relationship with food is messed up. To me the rebellion phase was important, because I had to show my body I trusted it, that it was OK to eat chips whenever I wanted and as much as I wanted, without any judgement. Then when my body was like "oh, so now chips are always available? I can have them whenever? Guess I don't have to replace all snacks with them", I started craving different foods for snacks.

Combine the guilt I get when I eat “bad” food with my intense “tell me not to do something and I’ll do it twice” streak has left me struggling with an ED and very stuck in my self-aware unhealthy ways. This is true. It also can be felt by your body. For example, my body feels awful eating items high on the glycemic index at night. So, for me, I eat most of the high items in my day in the morning or afternoon. It's important, though, to note that if you HAVE to have a special diet, then you shouldn't kick it without consulting a doctor first. For example, I had my gallbladder removed, and now I have to eat reduced fat or fat-free meals. It's not glamorous, but it's necessary for my health. Just, stay safe but definitely eat whatever you want at the time. Also, I think the intuitive eating could go really well with special diets as well. If you could, could you touch on that please?

I find eating higher carb meals and allowing dessert one day then eating lower carb, higher protein, more leafy greens and healthy fats the next works really well for me. I don’t end up hungry, if I’m craving something in particular I don’t restrict it and I find I’ve become more aware of what my stomach does and doesn’t struggle to digest due to my connective tissue issues (for anyone who’s confused, connective tissue disorders tend to effect collagen production which negatively impacts the digestive system, different people with the same issue can end up with completely different foods they struggle to digest. This phase actually helped me realize what I truly wanted to eat. When I'd fast all I could think about was a juicy burger. I would eat my usual home cooked meals but it lost its charm and all I could think about was a burger. When I became anemic due to other reasons, I stopped my fasts and started eating a lot more. My mum and grandmother were anemic at my age and they guided me to eat a lot more. So I finally ordered 2 double patty burgers with fries. I literally swallowed the first burger, but by the second burger I started getting sick of it, I had never eaten this much food before and I only bought this much because I was craving burgers so much and I thought one wouldn't satisfy my craving. After that I felt physically bad and nauseated. I rarely get food from outside because my parents usually discourage us from eating outside food and encourage homemade food. The next time I bought a burger I ordered only one and while it was so good, I felt bad after I ate it. It just wasn't sitting right with me. This happened a couple of times and I couldn't figure out why I crave burgers so much but it just isn't the same as a home cooked meal. Do I finally gave up on ordering food.... Instead I made my burger at home from scratch and for the first time I could eat a delicious burger without it making me nauseous after. From then on I would just learn to cook whatever I craved for and it's worked pretty well for me. It might not be the same for everyone, but I think the reason outside food affects me so much is because it just wasn't my usual diet of home cooked meals. When you cook your own food you are able to make it to your preference in every step, making it perfect for your body's needs.

the problem I would have with intuitive eating is I don't register/process when I'm hungry or bored. I have ADHD and it gets really difficult to tell apart the signals my brain is sending because the processing center is underdeveloped. it takes a lot of work and practice to develop that skill/knowledge for some of us so if anyone reading this is learning about that for the first time, I hope my comment makes you feel less alone or more compassionate for people who struggle with something like this. I very much appreciate these videos putting out awareness that you should be able to eat what you want and still be healthy. there is no bad food.

My mom was a "make your plate with your stomach not your eyes and brain" mom What she meant was to plate enough to eat then its okay if you want seconds. Just dont plate what your eyes want over what will actually fit in your body's tummy. I was never a big eater until my teens. So i was allowed to eat or snack when i wanted because i was listening to my body. Moms fave question? "Do you actually want all that or do your eyes?" Aka "does that just look so good you wanna grab as much as you can before others get it or do you actually want that much?" Totally taught me its okay to worry about others getting a bunch before my seconds but that i should get just enough to eat and see how i feel for seconds later! Plus my mom was the 'if i can ill makke more if people want it' moms thatd cook more if more was needed(my moms house was the safe house for all kids: hers, friends, etc)

To be honest, that is the best way to view it. Allowing yourself to have everything is the healthiest option, but keep in mind that it requires balance. Choosing a healthier option is not about dieting, it's about knowing what your body needs at the moment. I was at a board game night at my boyfriend's house and while everyone said what kind of pizza they wanted to order, i declined and opted to make myself a small salad, not because of dieting, but because i knew at the moment that the salad would benefit me a lot more than a few slices of pizza. And it was also delicious. From previous ecperiences, the pizza would have most likely made me nauseaous over night and i would have lost sleep.

I feel like I’m relearning how to eat. The logic is simple but the process isn’t. I’ve been journaling what I eat when I’m hungry and what makes me feel the most full - for me that’s proteins. And so far, it’s a morning meal, with light snacking throughout the work day, and then my dinner. That seems to be my happy place when it comes to feeling full and energized. It’s just crazy because I feel like I’m even relearning what kinds of food I actually like because I’ve been restricting so long that I’ve honestly forgot. It’s been a journey, it was frustrating at first but I’m starting to feel liberated. It’s been freeing to know that I don’t have to finish my plate, that’s it’s okay to have leftovers, and that I can walk away from food when it’s offered and save it for later (I did have a now or never mindset as well) So far I’m enjoying it and feeling like I’m learning a lot about myself

sometimes when i eat dinner, i can’t finish it because i’m full! and when i eat dessert, i eat it until i don’t want to! and i feel healthy! it’s totally okay if you eat sugar or carbs or whatever (only as long as you enjoy it!!)!

When I stopped caring as much about losing calories, I started eating healthier. Now I gravitate towards eggs and yogurt in the Morning much more frequently than sugary cereal. Do what makes your body and you happy, and you’re very likely to be healthier.

to me, intuitive eating is just eating what makes me feel good. i don’t like the connotations around it that make it just seem like a binge eating disorder which isnt what it is lol cuz ive had that.

Fr. Like I love some salad at some times. Mostly at the evening. At the morning u need to eat either light or heavy. Depending of when ur doing most things. If u do most things in the morning. Eat what u desire if u do most of the things in the evening. Still eat what u want. But if u want a sweet I recommend u eat it before going to work or something like that

I'm not going to lie, I had a lot of fun in my not dieting, not putting so much pressure on food, era. Did I always make the most nutritious choices? Rarely. 😅 But now I have the best relationship with food that I've ever had and a much nicer attitude towards my body.

I think its ok for some people to realize there are some foods they just cant handle and wont ever eat intuitively. We dont expect sober alcoholics to drink intuitively and understand if they choose to abstain. We should be understanding of food addicts if they choose to abstain from trigger foods.

Idk exactly what intuitive eating is however my mom has always taught me to listen to my body and react accordingly. Even with my taste buds and cravings. If im craving something (eggs, greens, milk, cheese, chicken, potato, rice, pasta..) then my body is probably craving some nutrients that food provides and i should eat some of what its craving. Ive always been a mostly healthy eater though so i dont have to worry about iver doing it with junk foods. I usually crave a vegetable or fruit or dairy or starch, and sometimes a meat.

Since I was little I've always been taught to eat until the food is gone, and even now that I've started to realize that a full plate of food will make me feel bad and sluggish I still feel like I HAVE to finish it. And I eat so fast I don't feel the effects until it's gone

I'm to the point where, if there isn't anything that feels good to eat, in the house, then there's nothing to eat in the house (even when there is actually food available to me). Luckily, we just restocked 😊

I come across this video while eating some ramen with green onions and egg. And it's only at this moment that I realise. I wasn't raised with such dieting stigma that what feels like everyone else was. Sure, there was the school mandated "sugars are bad for you" but I guess that fell on deaf ears. It turns out that, without me even knowing about it, I've been eating intuitively. Now, don't get me wrong, there's several things I have to work out (like meal structure) But it just comes to me now. I've been outside of almost everything related to beauty standards.
