The Escapist video: • Why I Don't Play Good ... As I grow older and witnessing the digital age around me, I can't help but feel not every game needs to start a conversation, go viral, or create clout.
That was a great video, my friend, and a very good message! I absolutely agree, not every piece of media needs to be a statement, the goal of entertainment isn't to start a conversation, at the end of the day, with all the business and stress in the real world, it's far more important that a game just be FUN! That's what games are, they're works of art, certainly, and incredible ways to express creativity, ideas, stories, and media in ways that we never have before, but all of that should come through the lens of simply having fun! You've been absolutely knocking it out of the park with these videos, my friend!
Much appreciated! Yeah that has been in my mind for a while, specially when one day I started playing games that were being overlooked or turned into a meme by rage youtubers, only to realize how full of it they were, lol. Thank you for the support!
I think "start a conversation" is a poor choice of words, yes every game should feel fun to play, and not every game needs to reinvent the wheel, but the sign of a good game is its ability to compel its audience, be that to dump another hundred hours into it, learn more about the franchise, or in the case you stated, getting hyped for a sequel or other projects connected to the IP, that in and of itself is starting an internal conversation and sparking intrest, a game thats fun to play but is too shallow to really draw players in is an objective failure, Doom is a shining example of a game that doesn't really innovate much, but is still a blast to play, and draws players in to be more invested in it, so i guess i would say that yes, a good game is marked by its ability to start a conversation
That's a very good point and I agree with you, I do wish more people saw it like that instead of what I see often in social media, with all the "either this is GOTY or it's a failure" mentality I see so often.
