watch till the end so you can hear my thought in 2024. this is getting ridiculous. we can't keep paying the inflated price for parts and seed and fertilizer and whatever else we are paying for at low prices for our goods. we buy retail and sell wholesale its a sad fact but its true. and we are at the mercy of our so called leaders that crave conflict over peace. conflict pays the politician and the country suffers.

I know all about the costs of doing business. I own and operate a business here and in 2023 my business grossed thousands more than 2022 but lost thousands more than 2022.. The cost of doing business is increasing faster than the business can generate revenue. I guess that's what inflation is. Thanks Joe!

Hi Wes We are the same in the south east of the republic of lreland It has rained here since end of August. Now we have big problem 5% of potatoes are in but that should be 75%. 25% of winter wheat and barley and that should be 100% 10 % of spring crop is in the ground. There is no tillage being done and probably 20% of fertiliser is applied on crops and grass for hay and silage Then you have the directive from Europe on livestock numbers nitrates and restrictions on everything The futures price on crops at the moment is on the floor. I feel your pain as I am in the same position as you and we have the government intervention as you. Until the is no food on the shelves the general public don’t care. No farmer No food ❤👍👍🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

i was justat a co-op meeting with seed and fertilizer dealers and a local tire dealer and our local deere dealer was there along with farm bureau and we listened to every one and when the meeting was over they said any one have any questions? a few farmers spoke and we had to hear responses from all these dealers like well we HAVE to raise our prices to cover our costs our taxes our upkeep of equipment and employee wages and benefits to SERVE you farmers!!! THEN some one said HEY dave you have any comments? so i stood up and said ALL farmers we 100% control the food we ARE in charge we ARE boss of the food system BUT we ALL are dumb farmers cause less than 1% of the population ARE farmers and we will NOT stick together with each other and NO farm group WILL stick together for the benefit of us farmers! sure they all have there little things they do for farmers BUT not with pay we receive! pretty much every one in the meeting stood up and clapped! and its pretty sad now where the amount of farmers in the area who came were pretty much out numbered by alllllll the fertilizer and seed dealers and parts dealer and deere dealer and farm bureau people who ALLLLLL sat there and said DONT worry we HAVE to charge more so we can be around to better SERVE you farmers who will NOT stick together OH and they ALLL pretty much said just hang on it WILL get better for you farmers just HANG on! a LOT of farmers laughed when that was said. think about it? EVERY one there to serve the farmer IS allowed to raise their prices to cover their costs but NOT farmers but it WILL get better for you?????????

The family farm has been done for ever since Nixon's secretary of Agriculture, Earl Butz told farmers to "get big or get out" while simultaneously gutting the New Deal farm programs FDR put in place to keep farmers on the land. Meanwhile Tricky Dick abandoned Bretton Woods and decoupled the US dollar from gold so the Fed could print money to pay for the war in Nam which led to rampant inflation during the 1970s that was a major cause of the 1980s farm crisis. Jimmy Carter's Soviet Grain Embargo pulled the rug out from under thousands of midwestern grain farmers who were already teetering on the edge of bankruptcy so he got blamed for the mess which was largely of Nixon's making and the flyover states have been voting Republican ever since.

Hey wes something to consider start raising some fruits and vegetables you can retail them and get a better price because they’re locally grown. You have that piece of land that you are going to buy that has the old barn on it that would be a perfect place to start a farm market. we are in Oklahoma. We have two of our own farm markets. We also go to Farmer’s market ones in Oklahoma city. One is in Edmond. It is very labor intensive. We also do alfalfa and Bermuda grass hay. We have been doing this for about 35 years. we had to re-invite ourselves, and we keep having to re-adjust as things change.

The pain is real, Wes. Agriculture is great when there is money to be made. I think all of us involved with Farming/Ranching are comfortable with slim margins. We are used to being creative with a pencil. And it is not highly unusual when diversified in your cropping portfolio to have some crops end up in a total bust and others pull the financial weight of the farm. However, when there is nothing that looks good on a spread sheet, it is effing depressing. I started from scratch at the age of 19 with 7 acres and a 1949 Oliver 77 wheel tractor. With lots of long days, sleepless nights , and a million hours of sweat equity, we have built our operation to cover over six thousand plus acres of forage products and dry land small grains. I have always been excited to do what we do. There has always been a silver lining at seasons end. Last year, we had an average loss of $100 per acre operated. It did not matter what the crop was. We did have yield hits from drought on a lot of the perennial hay crops, but most of the deficits arose from market prices. After inputs damn near tripling in fall of 22 we needed about $8.50/bushel to break even on an average crop in 23.. 22's feeder alfalfa market enjoyed an average sale price of $240/ton. 23's average sale price for feeder quality alfalfa was down to $140/ton. We've been able to pick up custom work in years past to make ends meet, but even with that on the line last year at the age of 51, and having only one year left to pay off the farm/home we purchased in 2008, We had to barrow against the equity we had built in it. Very unsettling. I feel blessed most days to be able to do what we do. To have both my boys involved. To have built something from scratch. But to have there not be one positive on the horizon, well let's just say the optimism is fading rather swiftly.

I’m completely convinced that every behind every issue nowadays is a money grab by the government insiders. Doesn’t matter, if you look at the details long enough you will find someone from the beltway making money while everyone else is being squashed. I think that’s why I follow SpaceX as much as I do.
