Like your vids, especially when you're doing mechanic work, your shop is what I remember my uncles looking like on his farm-not the sterile look like cornstarch's. You, tim, grant, the wife, etc do real work on the equipment!! Nothing wrong with older equipment if its maintained and a lot cheaper than new equipment!

I give you great respect for fixing up and making older equipment usable again. Great tractor you have there Wes.

I saw a 4440 complete rebuild sale for $77,000. I think it was on Machinery Pete. First Sound Gard tractor I ever ran was a 4430 Power Shift. We had a neighbor chop corn silage for us and one day he had an appointment so he showed me how to run the chopper. I think one of my favorite Sound Gard tractors is a 4250 Power Shift. I think of it as an oversized 4020.

I love this, screams old school O.L.F.. we still hay with our old dairy farm tractors. Few replacements over the years but man you are 1000% correct. My God you don't realize how you beat the piss out of them.

Had a radiator in an excavator that was overheating washed it had it flow checked everything seemed ok, still overheating, went into each fin with an o-ring pick was amazed at the junk pulled out. After that it ran ok. Another problem dairy farmers face is not enough hours in a day for everything they have to do.

Hey Wes, trying to get my son to watch your channel. He’s a service tech at a large John Deere dealership here in Wisconsin. He was watching this video and just commented that he hopes you replace a lot of the rubber hoses especially the ones in the left rear cab post. I have never worked on any of these, on,y older stuff. Complete agree dairy farmers don’t give a shit about there machines until they break. I can say that as I work on a dairy farm in the uk and it boils my piss that they don’t look after there machines. Great video Wes

You are damn right about dairy farmers and tractors. Exactly the same here in NZ. I inherited my dads old classic tractor from the farm. He farmed for 50 years and had no mechanical knowledge at all. First thing i found was power steering pump dumping its fluid into the engine and running dry. Had probably been doing so for 5 years 🤦

You’re right about dairy farmers not caring about their tractors, in my free time I help the neighbors dairy farm and they don’t take care of their equipment very well

Been subscribed to you for a long time. I remember watching you rebuild the top shaft in the transmission about 10 years ago. I do believe one of the rear tires has tireject in it back in the day, and you shot a hole in it and it seal! Lots of history to this old tractor. Look forward to seeing you get this tractor running again!

I remember learning to drive a skid steer at 4, a few years later when I was like 8 and could push the pedals all the way down I learned to drive a 2510 gas and a 3020 diesel JD tractors. Something I will never forget.

Hope you keep making videos on the 4430 “will it start”. I’ve got a 4020 with 158 loader and 4230 and I’m using both tractors in my small hay business. The 4230 was a really good find I bought it from the original owner. He estimated about between 4000 to 5000 hours on it when I bought it. I’ve spent money on it but several people have expressed interest in buying it. I’m interested in you pulling the wheels off of your 4430 and axles and replacing seals and bearing. I’m thinking very serious about doing this to my 4230 because both axles seals are requiring a lot of grease. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and enjoy watching them. Non-farming folks have no idea what it takes to be a farmer and it simply amazes me how they want farming stopped due to environmental issues. All I can say is they may want to starve to death in the cold and darkness. I do not!

I have 2 4430. One is a 1973 with a synchro transmission and a 1975 with a power shift. 73 only has 4300 hrs and the 75 has 6900 hrs. Both very reliable tractors

wes i am in ontario canada.these sound guards are popular here as well. this march 2024 there are 4 50 and 55 series selling by a combo of live and online auctions. i expect they will go to the US because of the exchange rates with the us dollar. all 4 are above average in condition. keep up the good vids and regards to the family.sounds like gramma was a go getter.

30 series seats can be converted to 60 series also. There is a lower panel replacement cutout . Seen a bunch of em done. Air ride conversion

My dad bought a 4430 new in 1974 for 15k for our rice & soybean farm in southwest Louisiana. Still running today. He uses to plow some fields he owns near the house. Pops is 81 and that tractor has never given him trouble. I on the other hand…😁

There is an old trick to determine if the Oil has any moisture in it! ===== with the Exhaust manifold hot wipe the dipstick on it===== If It the oil just smokes and lays there=== just oil....... if it crackles there is water present.... My Brother taught me that 40 years ago!.

wes, i bought a 4250 in 2023 for some extra horsepower for a reasonable cost. i am 3rd owner but know some of its history as it is local. when you are at the trans and hydraulic filters, do not forget the screen as well.

Lol, was not expecting the cliff hanger at the end! That's a lot of cash for the new hood on your other tractor. Do you have any fiberglass boat repair guys around? Or lay up patches on the back sides of the breaks to stabilize the hood yourself? From the quick camera shot on this video it looked like just cracks that maintenance-repairs are all you need. Otherwise a new hood is a lot of bushels of four dollar corn...

That seat isn't all bad Same seat as the 8630 I ran a few thousand hours in. Would take a 4430 any day.

Also Wes throw a set of chains on the 4430 it will be 80 percent or more of a 4 wheel drive in mud or snow and ice, frozen ground....for even thousands less than smaller clapped out 4 wheel drive....like you said great tractor for starter or your second tractor. good advice you have here.

Viewers might be interested in determining the condition of the turbo. It looks well used but a look inside the intake plenum might reveal a telltale engine oil leak that possibly seeped through bad turbo bearings and seals.

That would be the equivalent of about 800k miles on a vehicle. So that would be another way of looking at it.

Just a generalization but in my experience farmers seem to take great pride in screwing the buyers of their used equipment. Has to go back to the days of selling blind mules or "bred" cows that don't know what a bull is.

5 years ago you said the left rear had an axle seal leak and the right rear had a bad bearing. The video is from January 4 2019 and is titled 4430's future? You pointed out All of the same problems with it and changed the engine oil.

My mechanic told me he works on a new holland t7060 on a dairy with 27000hrs

4430 is like a 4010, first gen doesn't have the upgrades/improvements that the second gen does. Price reflects the differences.

Even though you are spending a bunch of money on the 4430 and it may not start the first time around but you will get it running eventually

Sorry, the 4440 had a Mechanical Suspension too. I had a model 1980, and it had a Mechanical Suspension as well.

G'day wes. I have a 10000 hr 4455 .how do you know or when should I replace the harmonic balancer. Tractor starts and runs 4@4 Power shift done little work on it regularly change oils. I'll send a vid.let me know what you think

The 4430 has a weak final drive they bust. A axles ,the 4440 they were left up there.
