She got her Kenneth coat from THE SAME place that everyone else gets their KC coats, BURLINGTON or ROSS for about $30 - $60 tops.

She should have kept her impatient butt in line

I think the establishment takes what they want, the day after an item isn't claimed.

Why would you keep your jacket there for a whole week? She should have gotten her jacket instantly that night, or just waited until Monday. She could have even called them, and tell them to hold/water the jacket bc she can't get to them for a few days. That's on her.

Why on earth would you leave your coat?!? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I bartended for 12 years.. never.. ever.. EVER leave your belongings like that. Sure, it might be there when I leave for the night… but I cannot guarantee that when I show back up for work, that your belongings will still be there.

She’s being unreasonable. She left her coat for days and didn’t provide a ticket for proof and didn’t want to look at footage to see who took her coat. This is ridiculous. She needs to take accountability for the role she played in losing her coat. Take the L ma’am. Don’t be mad at them.

She said it was a very cold night, how come she left without her coat?, also upon losing something,that thing suddenly becomes designer and there's never a receipt of purchase.

I used to go out dancing quite often and would take my well-worn coat on the nights it was necessary. My mother bought me a very nice wool coat one year, and was slightly upset that I wouldn't wear it until I explained that there was no way I would take that to a packed, chaotic club, coat check or not.

She could have fast forwarded through the surveillance video. If I was really concerned and wanted to catch the person that actually stole my item, I would do the homework. Instead she's suing for 200 something?!? How about not wearing a coat you care about to a place you HAVE TO CHECK IT IN(and then leaving it overnight). Makes no sense.

These cases are always interesting to compare to Judge Judy because you know with her this would have been a 1 minute case whereas Judge Milian likes to hear everything even though we already know how it's going to end.

If you have that expensive of a coat microchip it. Better yet don’t take an expensive coat to a club.

This does happen at a coat check. A friend of mine, about 35-40 years ago was getting her coat out of check and she ended up with a real fur coat. She was only 16 at the time so she left with it. I'm not saying it's right, all I'm saying is this happens.

This happened to me in 2000, it’s a scam the clubs in NYC do. I had a brand new Ann Taylor 100 percent leather waste jacket. They swapped it out!

The ticket said they weren't responsible for items left overnight. She left her coat there Saturday night......because she didn't want to wait in line for it. Sunday night, Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night....then she came to get it Friday. Without the ticket. After listening to her ramble and posture with all kinds of made-up excuses over a ridiculous lawsuit, and a cloth coat miraculously morphing into a designer coat that (surprise!) had no receipt or even a picture of her wearing it, I wouldn't be surprised if she picked that ticket up off the floor and made up the whole story for some free money. Either that or she's a Karen who seems nice at first but thinks the whole world revolves around her.

I doubt anyone is wearing her $20 cloth coat.

I lived in CT and even in the middle of January, when it was below 0°F, I wouldn't wear a coat to the club or bar because I didn't want to worry about checking it or carrying it around all night. But if I did check my coat a) I wouldn't wear an expensive coat and b) I wouldn't leave without it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That's the benefit of working at a place like that. All the goodies that get left behind!!!

If there was a fight that night involving law enforcement, it’s understandable why she might have left her coat behind in the chaos. The nightclub should have reviewed their surveillance footage. Clearly, she didn’t get her coat back since she still has the claim ticket, which suggests either she never received it or the staff didn’t follow proper protocol. I believe she should have been compensated for the coat’s depreciated value, despite what was written on the ticket, given the chaotic circumstances. It’s disheartening to see her mocked for using ebonics and speaking in her usual manner. She seems like a kind person who just wanted what was rightfully hers.

I understand that they have to abide by what's on the ticket but the judge has stated in other cases where the contract was altered by the defendant's actions. How was this not the situation? The defendant acted as if it was no longer the case.🤨🤔

"They did show me two coats that was there and they was wool, but they was not my coat." "I goes back with my husband." "The club do have cameras!" A little intelligence works wonders. Intelligence is king! Choose intelligence. Good try at getting a payout for your stupid error. Smh

She really can’t be mad at nobody but herself

The statement by the plaintiff before she left is so true. For people that take their clothes to the cleaners this happens alot. But, usually the workers in the cleaners take your clothes wear them and then get them clean, pressed, and prepared for you to pick up. They've been doing that for years The employees of the cleaners particularly target elegant items.

At least she attempted to do something positive. It is highly likely that many other places wouldn't have made such an offer. The Defendant's attitude is impressive because she is trying to resolve the matter in a diplomatic manner.

$200 depreciated would not be worth a $300 bottle and a table. Also she left it for a week. The cleaning crew should have thrown it out.

The judge messed up again I think. This part of the law is called bailments. The plaintiff gave the club her coat not just to merely hold, but to keep it safe. The club messed up when they gave the plaintiff's coat to another customer. In New York and some other states, it is key that the club charged money for the coat check. This means that, under the law, the club has a higher degree of care for those checked items than if it was a free coat check. If anyone reading this post has ever been to New York and is surprised when some restaurants and Broadway theatres don't even charge for checking coats, this is the reason. They have a lesser degree of care/responsibility if the coat check is free. The more that I watch this judge, the more she seems to make some basic mistakes. BTW, I am a licensed attorney in New York State.

As soon as I saw this coat case I had "Get Shorty" vibes and visualized John Travolta complaining about the same thing.

One: I agree with the judge. As soon as I would see the club title I would think it's for 60 and up. Two: She probably left without her coat to avoid the cops showing up, hmmmm. Finally, brings the one who bought her the coat and she can't prove it, so why go to a court of law? Just have it at a circus.

Before leaving the coat, she asked about it and was told if she had the ticket, she could come back and get it. If she had not been told that, she wouldn't have left it.

“What happened at Club Taboo, should have stayed at Club Taboo”… including that coat, after that amount of time.

If the coat meant that much to her she should have just waited to retrieve it that night.

In the UK in 1998 we went to a club, I actually went to get my favourite leather jacket and it was gone. I called the owner the next day and got nothing. I was annoyed but it didn't cross my mind to sue. Should have, but we don't have this mentality to sue everyone for anything. It was just a life injustice, something you learn from.

The plaintiff shouldn't have worn an expensive coat to a place she was aware beforehand required a coat check in. The next mistake was leaving the coat overnight especially since the ticket stated the club wasn't responsible for items left overnight.

All of this over a Coat?!?!? What if she has Real problems? 😱
