I agree. You were really letting the set backs get you down. Hobby cars are like that...sometimes you just got to take a break or other option, which you did was to pull in friend support. Really cool that they are technical too....all though not so cool to reward them by c@ck blocking them from date night :( LOL. I'm sure the MR2 will be running great in no time.

If you have some silicone tubing you can use it to protect wires from heat. Can use heat resistant tape like aluminum hvac tape to hold tubing on if you have to split it open. Also you can still get R12a refrigerant if you dont want to use R134a. Amazon sells it. It's more expensive but more efficient. 6oz R12a is equivalent to about 16oz of R134a.

Heat shield tape is what I used on my O2 sensor. Not sure what it's called, but it had a sticky side, I put it on in a helix pattern. I tried just wrapping it with a simple foldover as the tape was wide enough, but it wouldn't stay put. Congrats on getting it running, you looked like you couldn't actually believe it.

Stick at it,we all have times where it seems impossible or overwhelming, My car is 25 years old,since it was new,I have done services and all repairs myself, It's never been in a shop, Sometimes I wanted to burn it,so angry, disappointed, but I pulled finger and pushed myself to do it. After 25 years ,it is still running awesome, body starting to rust away. Love the new hair do,please keep doing what you do,awesome From your fans in New Zealand.

Trick I did in the before time at the telco. Cut the O2 wire and slip shrink tubing over the wires and re glue(solder) it together. Since shrink tubing shrinks in heat it shouldn't matter and it comes in different colours. Just a suggestion from the potato brake guy.

Sarah, you can coat a wire near a hot manifold with a liquid insulator that dries hard. I think It is rated to 500 degrees F. Simpler than making a sleeve. Good luck. You do good work and look so composed doing The work.

O2 Sensor wire can be shielded by using Silicone vac hose. A small slice down the length and secure with safety wire. Can handle all the heat that will be thorwn at it.

If you have some old RG59 laying around (TV cable) or similar, you could pull out the briaded shielding to use as a heat shield. Just cut a long enough length and strip off the outer jacket, being careful not to damage the braid and then work the shielding off by compressing it down the cable. It's not easy sometimes but it could be a free fix for your purposes. You might need to de-pin the connector, but you have the skills. Just keep pulling the braid tighter to make it thinner and longer.

150,000 :YEAH! I'm proud of you Sarah. I know you've worked really hard and your videos show it. Coming from experience, just be who you are. DO NOT be who you think we all would want you to be. I promise you, in the end, it will hurt you and you'll just be a hot mess the rest of your life. Your sense of humor is pretty much like mine and I enjoy EVERY moment. I know you're had some bumps in your life, but your resilience and positive attitude is actually quite refreshing. Take time for yourself. All this other "stuff" will follow. You have the right idea. the schraeder valves will definitely leak vacuum if they are old! best way to find a leak is the tool that has a flexible tip that beeps when it senses freon. at least replacing those valves is super easy

They say that necessity is the mother of invention and you proved that. I just was introduced to your channel. The first one that I sat down to watch is the one with the bolt would not come off. There's a very simple trick, and that is applying heat to it. From what I saw there is enough room to heat that bolt to a cherry color. The process is that when you heat metal it expands on high temp and shrinks when it cools down. Then you set your six-point socket and screw it off slowly I personally don't do work on imports we do American Muscle but this is something that we encounter on a daily bases. When you are working on 575 cubic inch engines the bolts are larger and more stubborn. I like you to know that there noting like a lady that works on cars so I just subscribe to your chanel.

Spritz a bit of R134A into the system and get it up to about 40-50psig. Get a spray bottle with some soapy water with about 70-80 percent dish soap and gently spray it on all your possible leak areas. If you find it you can dump that weeny amount of R134A into the atmosphere and repair it.

An old friend gave me BRASS CAPS for my Schrader valves. Solid brass with a rubber layer inside the top. Screw those down, if you still find them, and the system is sealed even if the valve leaks. But new valve cores should only run you a buck or two each--from a brand name source.

Wow...you're getting so close, Sarah. Maybe you should add some refrigerant to the A/C system and check it for leaks with a dye light? The oil that you added has UV dye in it, so it would be easy to find any leaks. The Schrader valves are a prime suspect for leaks, especially if they're the original ones on the car. I'm confident that the two of you will figure it out and have that A/C spitting ice cubes in no time. Knowing you, I'm assuming you cleaned the evaporator, while it was out?

For your sensor wire maybe little Sara could get a length of suitable Raychem fireproof wire that they use on aircraft. I'm sure she still has contacts. You can get fireproof covers but the insulation on the wire will still get hot and may melt if it's not Teflon or similar. See if you can borrow a sniffer to find your AC leak/s

Looking good Sarah! Just beware, O-rings are made of all different compositions/rubber and although size is important, if you want the system to retain a charge and function properly you should use o-rings specific for your application / AC or you may be doing this AC all over again in the near future. I'm not sure what assortment of o-rings you have. Just a heads up.

A/C can be a bastard to repair, remember ALL rubber hoses are porous and will leak over time. Pag oil will retain Freon and release it in a vacuum, so a slight rise in a pulled Vacuum is not necessarily a leak. If you put a dye in the oil you put in the R/D I suggest you charge it up and run it for a day and then check with your uv light. The other reason I suggest this is to seat the Compressor seal by making it work, this all may sound odd but I have been doing this stuff for way to many years and results actually matter. good luck and the darker hair is the right look for you.

Compressor shaft seal is likely or condenser for a/c also a POE oil is a better choice for retrofit as it is NOT possible to remove all the mineral oil from an R-12 system...only a flush will do that.. On the brighter side thank you soooo much for fab videos...you are very funny 🤗

Schrader valve is not your leak but should change anyway. Need to charge ac til comp. cycles and use uv light, you already have dye in the oil. Use eye protection, uv is bad for eyes. Most ac will leak either from condenser or evap due to constant expanding and contracting from thermo cycling.
@marnixinho
@marnixinho 5 лет назад
You're 99% done, but as always there is a inconvenience that pops up when you least expect it. Is the UV tracer mixed with oil? Over here i put them in separately. The UV tracer is just there for finding leaks with a blacklight since it doesn't really lubricate on it's own. You might need to run the a/c for a couple minutes to make it more visible, since it pushes the UV out instead of just sucking air in.(which shows as losing vacuum) Btw yellow really seems to suit you, you don't just look good in it, but i think it matches with your personality too.

I've seen the fiberglass plug wire heatshield, but not anything smaller in ID for sale. Ford likes to use a small dia heat shielding sheath on their O2 wires - look on your Focus. I'd say visit a junkyard for the best stuff - the stuff off eBay/Amazon isn't that great. Do you need that for your O2? I'd say only if it's within 2" of the downpipe and only for a short run. You have to consider exhaust gas temperature (could be 1300-1400deg F right there) - the copper wire conducts that heat from the sensor and into the harness. Do you really want that insulated? Any soldered connection near that will melt, and a plastic connector body... is done.

I see a new Innovate wideband kit you have there...just a heads up the Innovate controllers can be hard on sensors and there are tons of forum posts loaded with people with Innovate wideband issues. I have run them with mixed results. Make sure you use a good strong power source and ground. Use the extended bung that comes in the kit, and may need their special heatsink bung if it is installed close to the turbo. Install the sensor as upright as you can and definitely not lower than horizontal so that it cannot be damaged by condensation on warmup. Do not allow the sensor to preheat before starting the engine. Innovate runs too aggressive of a heater runup curve and sensors on their controllers are stressed and easily damaged in the startup phase. Otherwise, it is a good setup with a fast update rate that doesn't seem to drift in calibration much. I had one that worked fine a whole season before I upgraded to their dual sensor kit, and one out of the two sensors/controller is already acting up after less than a month. I would suggest AEM or PLX. I have a PLX and the display is really cool looking and it's been dead reliable.

The engine bay cooling fan module wouldn't be a good control for an intercooler fan, since it's bay temp controlled. With it running at key on, it'll cool the heatsink that is the intercooler while stopped, allowing for better cooling as soon as boost comes on.
