SYNERGY is autofocus lens. As a Professor of Math, with research in Geometry, I did not expect to get a continuous focus from small print to my Colorado mountains. SYNERGY is a miracle invention!! I did one eye on March 22, 2023, and plan to do another, again with Synergy, on May 3, 2023.

Greeting from Istanbul/Turkey! I must say I am a big fan of your videos. I had PanOptix on my left eye due to a cataract 2.5 yrs ago. Now it's time for the right (dominant) one again due to a cataract. My Dr. was opting in for Synergy. I asked him strictly to have Vivity instead because I want no more or I should say fewer halos/glares etc. and better intermediate with higher contrast quality. The surgery is planned for next week. I am 53 yrs old, still very active in sports (lifting, basketball, running), 6'2 with long arms, and very excited to have Vivity. Thank you for sharing. The patient's description is so familiar. I had Synergy in both eyes December 2021. TOTAL nightmare so far. The worst part is that it was an elective surgery - $12,000. Now all I want is my contacts and glasses back. MISERABLE.

I had Synergy lens implanted in my left, Symfony in my right in December 2021. I'm totally with your patient in this video regarding the difficulties i'm having with the Synergy and trying to figure out how to tell my doctor what i'm experiencing. I'm not certain with the Symfony, but i'm very sure i'm not happy with my expectations now with the Synergy lens. Her description of the leaves in the trees, is exactly my experience. It's just not far distance either for me, at least.

I started watching your videos about two months before I decided to visit an eye surgeon in Indianapolis Indiana and see if I qualified for the interocular lenses. A friend of mine also recently had panoptix lenses implanted in both eyes and had a very positive experience. After visiting the eye clinic in Indianapolis they strongly recommended synergy over panoptix. I originally decided to take the surgeons suggestion and go with synergy. I change my mind after I you decided to no longer offer synergy to your patience. About a week ago I had the panoptix inserted into my left eye and now I plan on having the other eye done in about three weeks. I am really happy with the panoptix and I’m really happy I watched your videos. I can read the The smallest print on the Eye Chart which I have on my phone. My vision has greatly improved.I’m going back to the doctor in a couple days and see officially what my vision is and I will let you know. Additionally I have not put on a pair of glasses since my surgery.

I think you are such a wonderful dr because you will do anything needed to achieve the vision your patient’s are happy with. I can tell from watching your videos that all you care about is your patient...no ego involved at all. My Synergy lenses were implanted 6 months ago...my right eye is not perfect 20/25...but my left eye fluctuates between 20/50 + 20/80. I now have a slight astigmatism in my right eye and a severe irregular astigmatism in my left eye. And now severe floaters in my left eye. I can read but nothing is totally sharp. Distance is not good either but having the left eye being so different from the right eye is the main discomfort. I recently found out that the lens in my left eye is slightly off center...which is surprising because I was told that Synergy lens stay centered better than other lenses. My night vision is not good probably because my overall distance vision is lacking. The halos at night are not as bad as your patient mentioned. And I don’t feel the lenses in my eyes...so I guess that’s some good news for me. I will be having PRK done to my left eye in 2 weeks...hopefully that will solve the problem. But it worries me to hear that you no longer will use Synergy lenses. That makes me worry that these are not good lenses especially that you mentioned the lens had become cloudy in one of her eyes. I hope that never happens to me. Thsnk you for sharing these videos...they are always very helpful.

For presbyopia there is no better than Synergy on the market, perhaps PanOptix will see better from a distance, but PanOptix is ​​not better for near vision than Synergy. I have Synergy and my big problem was presbyopia. PanOptix would surely see better from afar, but not very close. and the distance vision of Synergy does not make me need distance glasses. (it is my experience with Synergy) thanks..!

I had synergy lens implant in both eyes in the summer of 2021. I could not tolerate the lack of distance vision. My distance vision was blurry and even in the daytime nothing was clear and I could not see well enough to feel safe while driving. I determined I was not only experiencing halos at night but also during the daytime. In Nov and Dec 2021 I had iol replacement to Panoptix. I am happy with Panoptix. Since my surgery on my right eye in Dec 2021 I have experienced a retinal tear for which I am now recovering. I lost seven productive months of working, had to go to part time, stopped driving. I had to turn the brightness up on my computer monitor but had too much eye strain. I spent a lot of time in bed with my eyes closed. I will be so happy to have this difficult time behind me. I am 63 yrs old with no preexisting eye conditions except I’m near sighted. I believe sufficient warnings were not available from Johnson and Johnson and the Synergy lenses are a negatively life altering product.

Appreciate the video, doc. I was about to get a Synergy lens on 11/22/21, but based on the video you released that morning stating that the PanOptix slightly edged it out, I changed my mind at the VERY LAST MOMENT (right before being anesthetized). I *was* considering possibly going with the Synergy for the other eye, but I think I'll stick with bilateral PanOptix (or perhaps an EDOF w/ fewer dysphotapsias).

I have panoptix lenses in. Had surgery in June 2022 then had rt eye surgery again hoping for improvement and comfort. Not the case. I would pay double to have never had the panoptix eye surgery. So many issues. But I guess I shouldn't complain I am not blind just miserable and in a pressure strain type pain,24/7. I would give anything to have comfort and decent vision. 😢

I had a synergy implanted in my left eye 16 days ago, I wish I would have seen this video prior. I am struggling with my vision being very hazy 16 days post surgery.

I had the Synergy toric lenses implanted 9 days ago. Just like the lady stated, immediately after (next day) vision was great. I was impressed. I could read the fire station sign about 500 metres away and close up was amazing. Intermediate was also great, even though a bit of fuzziness. Then the following day vision quality reduced a bit. Three days post-op exam showed I had 20/20 vision but it was already getting fuzzy/blurry. Now 9 days after and vision has kept deteriorating now to the point everything except reading up close, is blurry. It is very stressful. I am taking my eye drops as prescribed (antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and lubricating). No lifting. Nothing strenuous. I spend time looking at distances hoping it will help my brain sort out the neural adaptation to the lens. I don't get it. Day after great vision and nine days after very bad vision. I am doing a RU-vid journal of my experience and hope and pray this resolves. I am due to head back overseas end of July and to think it will stay like this (is as bad as I think it can possibly get) would be traumatic. I would need strong prescription glasses to give me back mid to far distance vision. I probably won't be back to get any corrective surgery for many months to a year.

Dear Dr Shannon, thank you for your videos on this topic. I underwent a Synergy lense implant in my left (non-dominant) eye just over a monrh ago. The day after the surgery my vision from the operated eye was abismal but has improved over time. Last week I had my 1 month check and things have improved a lot. I have 20/20 vision and a combined visus of 160. Nevertheless, even though,, I can read even small letters without glasses, I have exactly the same discomfort as the lady in the video describes (except for the fastidious halos). Letters seem to have a shadow around them (this is especially visible when looking at white letters on black background with only the left eye). I occasionally see rhe sickle formed refraction of the lense at rhe prerifery of my left eye, and I feel something like a temporal pressure on the operated eye. Some halos are visible, but they don't bother me. From the atudiea I have read in the topic it is xlear that Synergy lenses take longer to get used to. In your experience, should I be more patient or is further improvement after 1 month unlikely? Thank you in advance.

Well, now I'm concerned. I had a Synergy lens implanted in my left eye on 1/20 and am due to have my right eye done this week. So far, my left eye's near and intermediate vision are improving (20/25), but not yet crystal clear. This woman's description of fuzzy edges is spot on. I don't know whether my vision will continue to improve (in both resolution and clarity) over the next few weeks or if how I'm seeing now out of my left eye is as good as it'll get without further tweaking with Lasik. I'd hate to do the Lasik, achieve 20/20, but still not have the razor-sharp clarity I require. I should point out that I'm a pilot and need for each eye to test at 20/20 individually. The razor clarity is my own standard and what I've been accustomed to achieving with toric contacts over the last 40+ years prior to cataracts driving the move to IOLs. I'm also an edge case as a high-myope and my ophthalmologist told me that my choice of lenses was very limited. In fact, the Synergy was the only one that she said would suit my anatomical requirements. She initially suggested that we implant a Symfony in my right (dominant) eye, but I'm very concerned about that. For one thing, I'm extremely attentive to detail and am likely a terrible candidate for any sort of neuro-adaptation, as any difference between the two eyes would be constantly compared. It would bother me all the time like a splinter that I couldn't excise. Also, I don't want any sort of "mini-monovision" as each of my eyes need to test at 20/20 distant individually. I feel as though I need to go through with the Synergy implantation this week on my right eye and just hope for the best. To be clear, I'm not unhappy with my left eye (the near vision is better (and closer) than I ever achieved with contacts), but am hoping that it will continue to improve. I know that you can't comment on my situation in detail from afar, but thought that I'd leave this here for others to read and, at the very least, mull.

I had Synergy implants done just over a year ago. Objectively I see amazing with 20/20 both eyes. Subjectively I have a hard time seeing details in clutter. Finding things in the utensil drawer is difficult and taking my PC apart is almost out of the question now. Like her I do experience some discomfort and feel as if I see the outer edges of the lense. Overall I'm very happy. Vision is much better than when I began to develop cataracts and I can funtion day to day and work on the computer without glasses.

I have Panoptix in left, Synergy in dominant right eye. My question to posters is: 1. Did anyone go with this combo? 2. How is night vision, driving? 3. How is your near distance like reading on Smartphone, Tablet... I have BAD halos, Starburst, Rings in BOTH eyes. Can't say one worse than other. It's been 5 months now. I hate driving at night. I was told Vivity can replace left eye but won't get that computer vision I have...

THIS lady describes MINE as it is in the GOOD eye.. (bad one has retinal reattachment and have to wait 8 weeks to see how it works.. ).. BUT she sounds like me- but mine is a bit worse!!

since she had astigmatism was a toric iol used or it was corrected through the incisions?

I will have cataract surgery two weeks from now. I choose Synergy because my ophthalmologist said Synergy is definitely better than Panoptix. He said Panoptix is made by pushing Acrylic into a mold, which will become foggy over time. But Synergy will not become foggy because it is made by cutting Acrylic.

Shannon do you think refractive surgery can be considered therapeutic and not just stetic surgery? Many people develop intolerance to contacts and can't live a normal live. Doing exercise with high myope glasses is not comfortable and affect quality of life of many. What are your thoughts about it?

FWIW I had Panoptix implants in both eyes over the summer of 2021 and both have been a disappointment. The left eye is fair with distance vision but not sharp on well defined, intermediate and near vision are not well focused and night vision is very compromised by large halos around light sources. The right eye is worse in all respects and prescription glasses only provide minor near vision improvement. On my next visit to the doctor I will request the replacement of the right lens with a standard distance lens. Thank you doctor for the helpful information you have provided.

I think the tri-focal implant is the very best....so far. $15,000 US is a no-brainer. Worth every penny, and lasts your whole life. Beg, borrow, or steal.

I had the synergy put in my left eye. I have had the tag done to them. They are still not right. I can feel them. I now have dry eye as well and on restasis.,Vision still not clear mid or far. Can I exchange the lens to the pantonix?

@ Dr. Wong - I have had Synergy lens in left eye for 2 months and I'm experiencing exactly the same simptoms as the patients in this video. My doctor wants to perform a YAG Posterior Capsulotomy and a LASIK to correct the far vision blurriness. My question is if after YAG + LASIK my vision is still not satisfactory, can lens exchange be done? I understand Dr. Wong cannot give specific medical advice without exhamining the subject but I'm looking for a generic answer like can a IOLX be performed after YAG or should be avoided. Thank you

I'd rather put in a lens that gives you A- results 99.9% of the time than put in a lens that gives you an A+ result 95% of the time and an F 5% of the time.

Thanks for this video Doctor. I had cataract surgeries in December 2021 and got Alcon Vivity lens implanted in both eyes. My near and intermediate vision has improved significantly, but distant vision is still little blurry. Do you think it will improve with time and I just need to be patient?

Are natural lenses removed during cataract surgery ? I got lenses and im not satisfied and im thinking to remove it and try alternative ways but without natural lenses it will not work I gues ? I got multifocal lenses, it helped me a lot but I dont see clear at close distance. Is it possible to revert it now ?

Good morning sir I have iridofundal coloboma ... I had cataract surgery 3 month before after the surgery I m experiencing positive dysphotosia (glare,big-big halos,star bust , lightning streaks) and negative dysphotosia (dark crecent shadow on my left side) and dilopia(double text vission) and also had PVD (unignoreable giant floater that can be seen in dim light .... And causing dynamic glare fluctuations..... I am truly depressed I only have this eye with vission other eye don't have vission..... Pls help me sir .... I know the only solution for this problems is IOL exchange along with Floater vitrectomy.... I m not able to my simple day to day work from this problems... I m very cleaver and excellent in acedemics sir .. I was persuing my engineering in CS branch from IIT Madras ... Pls help me to grow and fly again like before .... I had cataract surgery in Dec 2021 and had the Tecnis Synergy implanted in my left eye. In my case I can see the distance and near fine but intermediate range is not very clear. I am waiting for a couple of months to see if the intermediate also clears up.

I have Symfony in one eye and i wanted multifocal (Synergy) in another in the future. Will it be possible that i will have such problems with Synergy while i dont have problems with Symfony?

I’m pleased with synergy lenses, vision is fine at all distances, especially near vision which is important for me. They’re not perfect, but there’s no perfect replacement lenses

I have Vivity in my in right and left eye and I have the same issues with your 2 patients. My right eye is always hazy compare to my left eye. ALL visions are blurry, unfocused. I am angry!

I have PANOPTIX -- had it for 3 monts now and STILL can't read street signs more than 40-50 ft. away-- which at highway speed- that's getting a bit too close. It started improving a bit when I started doing a spoon of MCT oil in my coffee daily--- I noticed about 40% improvement first day... but eventhat depends on how I feel. I'f Im' tired- can't see.. or stressed, can't see- I have to be very relaxed and had JUST put the drops in (artificial tears). and then I can see SOMEWHAT better- but not good!!! It's like the lady in the video is describing but WORSE-- WITH the PaNOPTIX lens..

I had Tecnis implant 7/2013 and I hate it! Never had my other eye done. I cant hold off much longer and have to make a decision soon. Thinking of going with standard lense cause I dont want hazy vision in that eye I too. Had posterior capsule zapped too didnt help.

Can you explant 3 years after original surgery? No YAG. What she describes about leaves now no longer defined is what I experience with Symfony. Even facial recognition is difficult.

It's better than liveliness. for those who had a par plana vitrectomy to remove floaters is indicated.

So here is my experience...for me, computer vision and smartphone was super critical. I got Panoptix in left eye, Synergy in Right. Right eye is 20/20, left 20/25 after 3, 4 months. Panoptix is fuzzy. Synergy is laser sharp. Night driving is hellish...rings, halos, starbursts in both eyes, bit worse with Panoptix. Not sure if anyone went for a Panoptix, Synergy combo? I was told I should try Vivity for less Halos...but might sacrifice computer vision...after surgery I got .5 diopter astigmatism...tried glasses, 0 different at night... I really don't know what to say...I guess losing near vision quality with Vivity will drive me nuts...may be I just hang on to what I got...

since the orginal eye lens is flexible-- why are they not replacing them wtih a SOFT bag of silicon gel?? (like a fake boob).. that will FLEX with the eye muscles.. ???

That's not what all these people are talking about - WHO ADVERTISES the implantation of a piece of plastic into the eye. All their tongue-twisting is a matter of 25th degree of importance or \ HERE WE GO AGAIN ...\.... ....They would need to explain what happens to the tissue of the eye if a PIECE OF PLASTIC is inserted into it and that the body’s reaction can be completely DIFFERENT to this PRACTICALLY splinter NOT IN THE TISSUE OF THE BUTTOCKS, but in the TISSUE OF THE EYE. .... that even to a SPLINTER in the buttock, different organisms react differently - in some cases the splinter is integrated into the body without any special complications, AND IN OTHER CASES PROBLEMS ARISE - leading to complete rejection of the splinter, due to swelling, inflammation, suppuration, etc.. ....AND WHAT, the reaction of the eye tissue to a PLASTIC SPLINTER IN THE EYE cannot be predicted, much less controlled by ANY SEPTIC AND ANTISEPTICS - that no one KNOWS the ETIOLOGY of the body's reactions and can only refer to "diabetes - age - gender - nutrition" etc.. ....BUT WHO WILL TALK ABOUT THIS IF MONEY IS AT Stake...
