You actually do have a right to tell someone that whoever lives there must be on the lease. If you rent a room or an efficiency, you can definitely tell someone what the terms are. If someone is just visiting, that's one thing. But when you set terms, and they are agreed to, it is what it is. My parents rented an apt to a single mom via section 8 and I believe the state does not allow her to have boyfriends or other adults living with her because they are footing the bill for the apt. Either way, she's no victim. She got a place in Brooklyn for 1k, moved her man in and then found a bullshit technicality to live at the place 6 months rent free which is absolutely abusive. Courts shouldn't have that much power to allow someone to live off of someone for 6 months. Meanwhile everybody is criticizing the defendant, when her ass is the shady one

He was salty b/c she didn't want his azz and found another man. Furthermore, he was breaking the rules trying to run a daycare/ residential unit, so he set himself up for her to get that 6 months of rent free. Can't complain when you have dirty hands. He is not supposed to do that. My mom has a group daycare on Long Island. The provider must live in the home and every one who lives there has to be fingerprinted which is run through DCJS and FBI databases. He is going to have his program shut down if he keeps that up.

Family Daycare, Group Family Daycare, and Daycare centers. In New York to babysit or care for more than two unrelated kids in your home for a fee you have to be licensed or apply for a legal exemption. Otherwise you run the risk of being accused of running an illegal daycare. People used to watch kids in their home in unsafe conditions and ratios, and kids were hurt.

IF he was a legal landlord he would have won that. IF he was alegal landlord he could have kicked her out sooner but because he wanted to be Cheap it cost him. This proves nothing.

It's hard. I was a landlord for 10 yrs. Tenants assume you are rich and don't have a mortgage to pay.

Honestly tenants have much more protection in the law than landlords do. Landlords(good landlords) need to be very selective with whom they rent their property to. This is exactly why I'm undecided whether or not I want to buy a multi unit home.

They say that all the time. They don't realize that you have to present evidence in court and that the judge isn't trying to hear anything but evidence. So, she'll REPEATEDLY ask you for evidence, and if you start talking about anything other than evidence, she'll bring you right back to what she is looking for.

look at 4:30 til 4:34 the lady couldn't even get out she had other evidence after she said she didn't have pictures.

The ONLY acceptable evidence in that case would have been a doctor's report saying that there were roaches in the ear, and maybe (just maybe) a video showing a roach in the ear. But ANYTHING outside of that wouldn't be evidence. Including a picture, since they could be doctored. The plaintiff said "No" and that's all that matters.
