The START Hack competition 2024 brought together over 500 students and programmers in St.Gallen. Close to the University of St.Gallen (HSG) campus, some of the best hackers from top universities in technology and business convened at this vibrant hub of entrepreneurship.
Young talents from institutions such as the University of St.Gallen, ETH Zurich, Harvard, Stanford, EPFL, the Technical University of Munich, Cambridge, WHU, and many others formed small groups to develop solutions for case studies over 36 hours. They tackled nine real-life problems presented by partners such as the UN and companies like Six and Bell Food. One notable case study, provided by the Centre for Digital Health Interventions at the School of Medicine (Med-HSG), required a user-friendly solution for tracking food and its impact on a healthy lifestyle.
The hackathon culminated in a pitching competition where participants presented their results. Finalists had the opportunity to present their ideas to over 6,000 visitors at the START Summit held at the same venue. This year’s university prize was awarded to team LST, composed of ambitious and entrepreneurial students from Chile, Austria, and Germany. They triumphed over 15 other teams with their project Grocerly.
Empathize with the winning hackers and their intense journey, which is becoming an increasingly viral part of Europe’s largest student-run startup convention.
By the way, did you know that you can already innovate in computer science at the University of St.Gallen? It's ranked 6th among Europe’s leading business universities according to the Financial Times.
