I'm not far away in Roi et Province, i live in a small village about 25km from Roi et city. I would urge anyone interested in seeing the real Thailand, rather than a poolside bar, to travel to the province's. There are small motels everywhere, we have three around our village! The motels are chalet style establishments with a configuration like a hotel room, main room, bathroom and some have a kitchenette. You can fly, or take a bus from Bangkok, and the buses go between cities. We're about 3 hours away from the Laos border and the Mekong River at Mukdahan and there are plenty of temples old and new to see. I've been to Khon Kaen a couple of times, once to buy a pick up and recently to attend a wedding, unfortunately I haven't stayed long enough to to go into tourist mode!
I love that you walked...the best way to soak up any place in Thailand, and that your first visit was to a temple and then snacks. Very much Thai style!!!

I've lived in Khon Karn for many years. It's the best city to live in long term in Thailand. It's relatively cheap, there are practically no tourists, the people are really nice, and you're relatively close to a lot of lovely places to visit.
thanks for watching! 😊 when I was there to film this video, I had a great time, but I didn't feel like it was a high priority to visit again. but since I've been away from Thailand, I've even been missing Khon Kaen for those reasons. I have some Thai friends in Chiang Mai who are from there. next time we will try to go together so they can show me around more!
I was just married in Khon Kaen. My wife is originally from the area, so it made sense to get married close to her family. Really nice city. I love going to Vector Coffee Roaster for their bags of coffee beans.

Did you go visit with Mr. Martin Wheeler? He is a Brit expat living somewhere in Khon Kaen. Very interesting man. Good that you venture into other provinces than just the usual. Hope you had a great time there.
