The ending was the best part and I mean that in a good way. She didn’t deserve to be forgiven or heard from again.

In this world where media still encourages white women to think they're the main character and everyone else is just actors in their play, the ending was perfect.

I agree she lost all credibility but the movie felt more like it was pointing Danni towards suicide. I like the lack of redemption but she lost her friends her allies and most of all her family. Maybe I’m taking this the wrong way but it felt dark.

after watching this review I now know I am broken inside... I never disliked the main lead... I did not agree with her choices.. and I think it is horrible.. Also I hate how she is perpetually tone deaf and seem self centered.. but for the get go I saw where she is coming from... and I feel sad for her.. I was actually more sad the entire movie than disturbed or uncomfortable... I watched this movie thinking it would be uncomfortable and funny at the same time.. but I was just sad the entire time... now I need a movie to lift up my mood..
@rufiredup90

I mostly cringed throughout this movie watching her antics but I was sad for her too. I know her apology in the movie seemed very typical of a RU-vidr's apology these days (oh I was depressed and high, woe is me, I made a bad decision that day) but I did still feel sad for her...She was truly very lonely and depressed...She kept saying she felt numb and how everything looks grey...She is a sad pathetic person. This is why even though we may hate her actions and despise her for it, we should also understand that she is a very messed up person mentally. No sane person would ever do this otherwise. The saddest thing is that there are many influencers like her in real life and I usually despise them instantaneously, this movie made me think twice about just hating someone regardless of how wrong they are.

@@rufiredup90 exactly.. i felt her loneliness and sadness.. idk why.. i was actually crying even before she did her paris thingy.. (and i rarely cry).. thats how sad i felt when watching her..maybe it was because zoe was a great actress..that it was hard for me to hate her character.. i just want to hug her.. cause i think if only her parents wouldve been really there for her she might have felt included in something..i feel like she was just trying so hard to belong to something thinking that if shed get famous or be relevant shed matter.. then finally shed found something she belonged to.. which in a way happened but what she did to get there was desperate and wrong..and of course her twisted views..but i heard a review that some do view things like that.. like they are missing out because they were not part of a minority group or did not experience a collective trauma shared by most people in their generation.. things like that.. which could sometime feel isolating if your world and people exposure have been very limited.. idk im rambling.. just happy someone also felt sad watching the movie.. 😂😂😂

I liked it somewhat. But every "good" character was either lgbtq or poc. As a black girl, I'm pretty tired of seeing minority characters get a pass for being terrible because we've been through systemic issues. The main character was unlikeable, but I couldn't like anyone except for Rowan, a little.
@iidentifyasayoutubertoday7025
@@MENACE-km6bd I agree with you. As for Rowan. She just reminded me of how the internet gives too many people who aren't even matured yet and going through phases too much of a voice. People like Rowan's character are what encourage people to thrive in bitterness and bathe in their own misery.

I thought, may be mistakenly, this type of "attitude" is positive?! In some people's mind at least?! So, depending on who's seeing it, this is a "driven personality" thing? LOL! But, what happens when things are manipulated, and spiral out of the person's 'control?' Not Okay, this protagonist chose option number 3 - will it end negatively? Liked your review:)

It had potential, but fell apart in the 3rd act when it kept trying to make this character who has been a completely amoral narcissist for more than an hour sympathetic. A better dark comedy is “Thank You For Smoking,” where Aaron Eckhart’s tobacco lobbyist, while charming, remains a terrible person throughout. If you’re going to do a dark comedy like this, you can’t pull punches.
@carinek8103

I absolutely do not think that they try to make us sympathy for her. It was a perfect look on the "white women tears trope" and how they think they are then main character. Danni is after all the narrator ... she is an unreliable narrator. At the end you realize Rowan is the main character, not danni's tears. Danni did what a lot of ppl should do when caught exploiting ppl pain, she removed herself from the spotlight, quietly bc it's not about her
@upg5147
@upg5147 Год назад
I think that's the genius of this movie, it takes those black and white views and adds nuance. It would have been so easy to have Danni snap at the end and further dig herself into a hole for being a horrible person but the movie slowing drip feeds us moments of her being a good person. The ones I can note are her helping calm Rowan down before the rally. She had nothing to gain from that but did it because she wanted to help a friend. It's also a great call back with the song since it shows Danni was actually listening and cared enough to retain that conversation. We someone get the opposite of this earlier when Danni talks about Rowan's sister not knowing she died in the shooting even though she cyber stalked Rowan to learn about her. Another scene is giving the goodie bag to the homeless. She didn't need to do that and while it showed how truly ignorant she is to the world, it was a step forward. The best scene for this however is without a doubt when Danni brings up Rowan's sister at the rally. She did that because Rowan couldn't, she did it for her. It showed she was trying to be better and while her situation is entirely her fault and wrong, I find the way the movie shows how she can do right through that horrible path (main one being a voice for those who were truly hurt) she chose to be the most interesting message the movie had to offer and something I wanted more of.

I love anti heroes and the so called "unlikeable female protagonists" this movie warns about lol but i get for some people it can be hard to stomach and instead of being fascinated by the character they just get annoyed and angry. I however really love this movie and love movies like this that are concerned more with exploring why terrible people do terrible things without there having to always be a shoehorned and oft unearned redepemption arc for them.

@@Allgloss312 I like antihero movies as well, but I think that what this movie did wrong was humanizing the main character too much (Genuine relationships, plan b scene, depression) which made her too likable for me. I don’t think they did a good enough job of making her seem like the villain. I honestly don’t think that she did anything too bad but I might just be some sort of horrible person by everyone else’s standards.
@Allgloss312
@Allgloss312 Год назад
@@cadenmilne1567 i strongly have to disagree there lol. I dont think any of those scenes made her likable. Humanized her? Well yeah because she is human lol. It would be weird if we never saw her struggle with anything. I mean she is pretty crappy and very self involved and narcissistic at times, but shes not some cold unfeeling psychopath who has no empathy for others. So it would be weird if there was no point in the movie where she struggles. But these moments are too few and far between to make me think quinn shepherd was leading us in that direction intentionally. If anything, the ending shows she has no intention on providing any redemption and catharsis for the main character. I see where you are coming from, but for me its more complicated than bad guy does something human and relatable = instantly more likable. And for me the alternative of a anti hero who is just a constant asshole and not relatable at all, sounds exhausting and not very interesting tbh
@upg5147
@upg5147 Год назад
@@cadenmilne1567 That's just it, she's not a villain. She's not an evil twirling mustache villain, she's a person that made a very VERY poor choice. What you don't like is that you can see ways to like the person the movie is telling you to hate. You hate that isn't not black and white, that people aren't one way or the other. That's what makes this movie worth watching, seeing how the nuance is handled and how you view the characters depending on what side you took and what bias you have. It's fascinating. Forgive any projection, this is just off what I read in your comment. I know nothing about you personally.
@upg5147
@upg5147 Год назад
@@Allgloss312 I believe you misunderstood the ending entirely. By having Danni just leave, she got her redemption arc (or at least the signs of the start of it). She realized she can't solve this with a simple apology and that this is for herself and not Rowan. By realizing that and accepting that, she has changed DRASTICALLY from who she was at the beginning of the movie. This is not to say you should like Danni or respect for original choice that sparked this whole mess but I do hope you can see this isn't that black and white, something I believe the movie wanted to show.
