We're just on the hill by the golf course. Doesn't get much closer than that without feeling the heat. North side of the river is now black as pitch and nutrient rich. No idea on damages or injuries. Here's to hoping everyone stays safe. Quite the view from nighthawk before they closed off access.

Got back home to Edson earlier today, we were lucky as the wind blew our big fire in a direction that missed the town and a combination of rain and firefighting efforts saved the transmission line and substation that were in its path, so Edson, Hinton and Jasper did not lose power. Others were not so lucky, a separate fire got a number of rural properties in the Shiningbank area (north of Peers) but it was even worse around Wildwood, Evansburg, Entwistle and Drayton Valley. Most of those folks still aren't being allowed home (no power or gas even if the house is standing) and some don't have homes anymore. I'm not encouraged by some of the stories that are coming out about the conduct of the RCMP and Provincial firefighting efforts, by the sounds of it a lot of people were left on their own or even harassed and only had each other as they tried to save their homes and farms. Very glad to see you are prepared, if I lived out in the countryside I couldn't bring myself to leave either.

I have personally lost a lot of shit because my double-wide went up taking my pole barn, and my garage with it and then a truck fire 2 years later...
