Author Larry Mazza tells his twisting, turning, true story of an average young Brooklyn boy who is seduced by a sexy older woman, mentored by a Mob boss, and finds himself living The Life in the heart of the Mafia.
In his book, The Life, Larry Mazza tells about his parents and his childhood, his time attending college, and the moment his life took a fateful turn and brought him deep into La Cosa Nostra.
When Mazza got involved with Linda Scarpa he soon met her husband, Colombo family capo Greg Scarpa. Known as “The Grim Reaper,” Scarpa actually took a liking to the young Mazza and became his mentor. Mazza soon found himself immersed in the Colombo family war, attending secret meetings, taking part in betrayals and shootings, and ultimately landing in prison.
In this Wiseguy Speaker Series discussion from May 17, 2018, Mazza covers topics like:
- The chance encounter with Linda Scarpa that changed Mazza’s life
- What it was like to be mentored by “The Grim Reaper”
- The Colombo family war
- Mazza’s personal experience in prison
- The deal that led to the downfall of a corrupt FBI agent

Sounds like she trapped him and that Scarpa knew all along. Maybe when she told him that she needed to tell Scarpa and Scarpa taking him for that ride "to talk" his nerve was being tested. You'd have to think that Mazza,if he's truthful ,wasn't the typical type they'd recruit.Usually its younger criminals looking to get into it and hoping to get recognized

Larry Mazza&Michael Franeze both Made Members of The Colombo/Profaci Borgata plus Salvatore Sammy The Bull Gravano started off with Shorty Spero also a Colombo/Profaci Family.....did his 1st piece of work for The Colombos before being moved onto the Gambinos, under the tutelage of Toddo Aurelo,Powerful Capo in The Gambino Family which eventually sometime around 1975 or 1976 The Bull received his button as a Made Member as a Gambino.I said all that to say this....I would say these 3 are the real deal holyfields of that life!I dont know what it is about John Alite but alot of his story I dont buy.....and Gene Borrello is still a young man so I dont believe he was involved for much time with The Bonnanos.

@@billmaggie8736 Sammy was an associate with the Colombo's from the time he came out the service....1968 ish until early early mid 70's then he was switched over to The Gambinos and into the Crew of Totto Aurelo which in the 1980's Sammy ended up taking over Totto's crew as Caporegime(captain)as he semi-retired.

It’s a shame these gangsters that have rolled didn’t think that way when they were enjoying the life of a gangster, these days they ain’t cut from the same cloth has the older gangsters who lived for the cause and took whatever that life threw at them and excepted their fate to what oath they took, bullshit.

@Sofonyas Fkade that’s true Sofonyas plus years ago they had the politicians, judges, cops and whoever else that had a little bit of power in their pockets, and you are right as soon as the RICO law came out and then he witness protection came with it and the mob as we know it is long gone, as you said they can’t wait to rollover, it’s like tbey wannabe gangsters but when they’re in trouble they suddenly don’t want to be gangsters anymore they ain’t cut from the same cloth as the older boys in the mob, under Costello they had it all, the judges the cops the politicians and the unions all in their pockets , and for the demise of the mob as we know it, I put that not just on the RICO law but Vito Genovese and the power grab that he made in New York when Costello was made to retire he took a lot of power with him for me that’s when the mob started to crash anyway take care of yourself buddy from Stevie boy in Britain
