I'm reminded of one of the episodes of Meet the Osbornes where Ozzy was looking at a stage set that he was going to do a performance and it had a fake snow machine. He said sarcastically, "SNOW?? We can't have SNOW in the act, I'm the bloody prince of darkness!"

Black Sabbath is actually THE OPPOSITE of "devil worshipers". Lots of their songs have covertly religious/moral messages, when you take the time to listen.

My southern Baptist grandmother thought they were devil worshippers too. I let her read some lyrics and she changed her mind, saying that they were more god fearing, anti war, anti hate than anything else. She wasn't into the musical style but she couldn't hold that against them.

War Pigs is an epic song. Ozzy has never claimed to worship the devil, the internet gives him a bad rap. He wouldn't care if they burned his records as long as they bought it first. He's proof that you can't judge a book by it's cover. This song has so much truth in it. Like the line "Politicians hide themselves away, they only started the war, treating people just like pawns in chess wait till their judgment day comes yeah" Geezer Butler the bass player wrote most of the lyrics back in the day and a lot of his lyrics spoke bold truth. In fact if you listen to their album "Master of Reality" you will surprisingly find that most of it sounds like Bold Christian Rock. Great reaction brother, thank you. I love Ozzy, much love to you BizMatik.

Black Sabbath: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward--four guys from Birmingham, England, a tough steel factory town. Iommi said Birmingham was the kind of place where you either worked in a factory, or joined a gang. They started out as a Blues band, before developing their signature sound that eventually became known as "Heavy Metal". In fact, before "Heavy Metal" became the universally accepted term for this kind of music, Sabbath and similar bands were often described as "Atomic Blues". They were not devil worshippers. They often tackled dark subjects ("War Pigs" was a commentary on the Vietnam War, for example), but bassist/lyricist Geezer Butler is a lifelong Catholic, and the words to many of his songs are actually blatantly Christian --check out "After Forever" and "Lord of This World". Great reaction, BizMatik!

As said, Ozzy didn't write the lyrics, that was Geezer the bass player. The creator was lead guitarist Tony Iommi. He came up with all the riffs. Toni would create a riff and the rest would jam, Bill Ward Drummer would set the tempo, Ozzy would join singing any rubbish. But what all the band members agreed, Ozzy was a genius creating the melody for any song. Although Geezer would change the lyrics, the melody was always what Ozzy originally came up with. Best described here in the making of Planet Caravan. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zoQga3hMkyc.html BTW. As for the song, it was written in 1970 nearing the end Vietnam War.

When he talks he is hard to understand.but when he sings he is crystal clear.the godfather of heavy metal period.

Saw the 3 piece (sub drummer) in like 2013 or something. They started the show with War Pigs. Ozzy was pitch perfect to the song. Lots of smoke in the air. Good times.

The great drummer is Bill Ward. He got caught up in drugs and booze then had to quit touring due to ill health. Guitarist Tony Iommi is missing parts of one or two fingers so had to adjust his playing.

So glad you didn’t do the fan made music video to this. Most people don’t get that memo. It is worth a look see but first reaction should always be just the audio imo.

I was in jail once and on a Sunday my cellies came back from church talking about the lecture they'd just received by the religious figure at the jail and how this was glorifying Satan and all that foolishness.. Good thing I knew all the words and was able to set them all straight.

Black Sabbath really was a bunch of 'peace and love' hippies. But their music was so dark.

Always do more Sabbath! Hand of Doom, Supernaut, Snowblind, Wheels of Confusion, Over to You, Shockwave, Swinging the Chain, Hole in the Sky, National Acrobat, Under the Sun, so many great tunes. I listen to the whole first album over and over pretty often.

It's actually bass player Terry "Geezer" Butler who writes the bulk of the lyrics for Black Sabbath (he also came up with the name for the band, being a horror movie fan and the only of the four that dabbled in occultism). This song was supposed to be called "Walpurgis" (after "Walpurgis Night", a festive day in France paying honors to an 8th century abbess) and the "Paranoid" album was supposed to be called "War Pigs". But Warner Bros. didn't like the idea of an album named for war with Vietnam going on and stuff, so they changed the name behind Black Sabbath's back. With the cover art already been finalised, we now have a blurry warrior with shield and sword on an album called "Paranoid". Personally, I would have re-released the album as "Warner Bros. Pigs", but hey, that's me. Cheers amigo.

This band, just like Zep had 4 supremely talented musicians. A lot of people said nobody hit the drums harder than Bonzo but Billy Ward hit them harder than anyone I have ever seen. Bonzo was the best but Ward is one of them. So many things Sabbath does that parallel Zep, the changes in tempo like it's more than one song, the guitar pauses so the drummer can jump in and pound the beats, awesome bass players that hold it together and make it all so tight. They played different types of rock music for sure but so much is the same. And of course Ozzie, distinct and passionate just like Plant. My 2 favorite bands period!

Listen to Ozzy's song Rock And Roll Rebel. One of the lines- They say i worship devil , they must be stupid or blind. Geezer Butler is Sabbath's lyracist. They said-folks get a thrill from horror , in so many words. Do not believe all you hear or read on the internet. Now that is an evil domain.

Geezer Butler the bass player wrote most if not all the lyrics for Sabbath. Ozzy was and is a master a creating the vocal melodies.
