Thanks to all my subscribers and viewers! Because of you all, my channel made it to 1 million views! I can't thank you all enough!
This project is long-overdue, and it is the culmination of months of failure, which seemed to cause endless delay. Thankfully, I'm now older and wiser because of it! After the tenon broke off, I realized I could not complete a proper finish of the inside of the ring without a set of Cole Jaws. I had to wait about 3 weeks for them to arrive, but they did the trick! Let me know what you all think!
I have made other coffee grinders before, and I am always looking for interesting new ways of innovating on that theme. This is the craziest one yet! I hope you enjoyed it. I used the antique style case iron coffee grinder mechanism from Woodriver, made by Woodcraft, on amazon (amzn.to/2uKbaC4) (see other affiliate links below). I have been using one of these mechanisms regularly, and I have little complaints. Yes, the gears are plastic, and that isn't great, but I could not find a reasonably priced grinder with the wheel crank that also had complete cast iron gears. If someone knows where to find those, please let me know!
Check out Starbond. I am really liking their brown CA glue, and it turned out to be indispensable to this project!
I also really like Acks Wood Paste products, and they provided a 10% of discount with code "david10". Be sure to check them out!
If you're new to the channel, please consider subscribing! Also, please like the video and comment, letting me know how I'm doing and what you'd like me to make next. It really helps to promote my videos and channel, and I always love reading and responding!

Hey David!!!... great recovery my friend. That’s why it’s called a “ learning curve”....😁... I have to admit though when I was watching I kinda saw that comming... I’m sure that little voice in back your head was saying I know better then this , then bam!!!!😉.... but you made it work and that’s what counts. I’ve turned hackberry before , it’s pretty cool wood but can be real punky depending on how heavy the splat is. Great job David. You might want check that belt over good!!! John Miller Custom Woodturnings
@DavidAdamsen
@DavidAdamsen 4 года назад
Thanks very much, John! Yeah, it was quite the rollercoaster, and I should have been smarter at the outset. But sometimes we have to learn the hard way... Yes, thanks for mentioning that. I do need to replace the belt I think. Another person pointed that out in the last video. I think the fact that the lathe sat for 20 years unused didn't do it any favors... Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade the lathe this year.

It just goes to show that some projects don't always go well and some times a design change or a heap of super glue saves the day. This video clearly shows the degree of difficulty in making a project like this well done matey I had no clue what it was going to be until the end.

What I'm afraid of, I see it happening here. Pieces wood flying from the lathe. You have finished it verry nicely. Wonderful project. -Frank.

Ahs never would have thunk you were turning a coffee grinder; one from hackberry. Great recovery on some breaks/catches with a temperamental wood like hackberry. Every time I try turning something from that type of wood, it usually ends up in the fireplace. What you experienced is common place. The wood is very prone to tear out. You had quite a bit of it, but managed to eliminate it. Reaching far beyond tool rest with the hook carbide tool was quite a gamble. It almost bit ya. Good recovery though!!! I like the idea and the finished product!!!! A design with a lots of ingenuity. Nice job!!!

Thanks so much! Yeah, this one was quite the learning experience, and it was my first time using hackberry. I probably picked the worst piece of wood for it though, LOL! Yeah, I'm sure there are longer chisels designed for that long parting application, but I used what I had, messed up, and learned! LOL Cheers!

I was on the edge of my seat and worried a couple of times too. At first, I thought you were making a sphere, then, maybe a lamp? Nice surprise. Beautiful piece.

Cyanoacrylic and sheer willpower to carry on saved the day! Absolutely gorgeous piece, and great editing of the video. Left me wondering until the end what it was you were making.
