Listen as English-Electric locomotives Y 2 (800 h.p.) and X 18 (660 h.p.) power-up after leaving the Tea Tree crossing loop on a Main Line excursion to Ross in 2001.

It's videos like this that got me interested in railways abroad. So often you'd hear nothing but crossing bells or blaring horns but this is what it's all about,giving your locos a sound thrashing and being able to enjoy the sight and sound of it uninterrupted. Oz and NZ have some pretty fine vintage machines.

I agree highly I feel exactly the same I love hearing old diesels around the world giving it the beans like they do in the uk some sound awesome especially the old emd an alco locomotives

This train is owned by the Derwent Valley Railway Preservation Soicety and is based at New Norfolk. A sister loco to Y 2 (red loco) is housed at the QVMAG Museum at Inveresk, Y 3. It's a static exhibit and not operational.

at the QVMAG Y3 is preserved in astounding condition and remains in operational condition (as far as I know) with fuel still in the tank as it was parked there with its freight when the work shop shut down

Based in the UK, these locomotives look like British rail class 20, but sound like British rail class 37. All English Electric origin.

I believe they ARE a BR 20 but on narrow gauge. We had them in Western Australia, too. The Midland Railways F class.
