I don’t think it can be overstated how much of an emotional masterpiece this episode is. The use of different styles of music to represent different characters is so inspired. And the transition from the loud, distinctive styles of the different mobs to the single clarinet and violin to represent Green and Purple-masterful. And then, Purple’s backstory. The violin, the percussion, the use of clarinet when Green shows up again-an entire video could be spent analyzing this one scene. This is something incredibly emotionally mature, and it’s beautiful .

Alan’s animations are absolutely INSANE at this point. I was NOT expecting to be emotionally destroyed today and I thank him for it.

So this is the story they were trying to share: The thing was purple was treated as a friend multiple times by all the main characters. But purple has betrayed all of his friends multiple times that could have lead to his friends death. So Green was asking why he did all those things, why he betrayed them, and whether he was really good or evil. Purple told him a story of how his father left the family because he was too weak, and his mother died. So he did everything he could to gain someone's approval. But got denied in the process again like his father once did. He then admit he was evil. But Green comforted him and told him they don't care about whether what he did was good or bad. But that his friends will still care for him. So purple want to return good and help his friends.

I'm just realizing that Alan wasn't kidding back in Animation vs. League of Legends when he said that Purple had a rough childhood...

Ya know, DJ's got a point. With all the "agenda enjoyment" and all-sides virtue signaling in tv, and the "if you don't agree with me, it's not art", it would be good for kids (and adults) to see good art that doesn't have a quotable reminder of "what's good" every five seconds. And now that I've done the very thing I complained about, I'd also like to say: Alan, can you set up something (email list, Reddit page, etc.) where we can give you subtitle ideas, since RU-vid isn't doing community subtitles anymore? (Preferably not Patreon, but that's kind of selfish. As a non-patron, I'd like to write subtitles, but it stands to reason that people paying for it will usually have less reason to purposefully do bad subtitles without humor, or otherwise be discourteous about it.)

U can tell Alan had fun making this cause this so freaking funny, and your reactions were awesome obviously

You know, the great thing about this story now is that it really doesn't have much to even do with Minecraft anymore. It's so much more about the stick figures and their stories, and Alan is just using Minecraft to tell that.

This episode was absolute top-tier storytelling. This man does the impossible every time you think it can't get even better than the last.

I know DJ was making a joke regarding which parent was the asshole, but to be completely fair to him Stick Figures seem to be genderless in general, and color alone doesn't determine gender. It could have been the maternal parent was the abusive one for all we know. Also DJ's pog face when Green learned to sing was golden.

Even just thinking about this episode, mostly Purple’s part, gives me goosebumps. This seriously deserves to be an example to anyone trying animation, music or any sort of audiovisual storytelling. I completely agree with what DJ said at 11:26.

10:40 I have to agree here, except the episode made me lose a few tears. Because this whole series, I thought Alan gave Purple a bit of a 'JERK' personality, and now seeing that his life was tough, and that he did it all the evil things he did in this series was so that he could be acknowledged/noticed by his father who HATES him. This triggers a few theories for the next episode though. My personal theory is that the next episode, Purple might have to deal with a 'Person vs Self' concept. (Example: Purple either can use the power to find or maybe get revenge on his dad, or put it all to a stop. Basically choosing between his friends or his father.)

The first half of the video was the most random thing I've ever seen, but when the lore came in it definitely felt like an Alan Becker AVM shorts vid again

This does bring up a really interesting point. What are the stick figure’s genders? Do they even have them? Are they genderless? From this episode we know that stick figures can come into existence from parents, are stick figure that were directly created by someone somehow different than born ones? Do the stick figures created by Alan not have a gender because they were created while purple and possibly the king do because they were born instead? Or maybe it’s the other way around and created stick figures have genders made by their creators and something about stick figures reproducing causes them to not have a gender? Maybe for stick figures there isn’t anything physically different between genders and instead it’s something they choose to identify themselves with.

You know when they say music can express a story? It can express a story indeed! It expressed a story that made me cry, but if some don't understand the story, here's the moral: don't let somebody use you for whatever reason. most just want your success, just to get whatever they want. bravo, Alan! bravo!!

I love how green sings purple in more detail each time they need to ask where purple went. It's like green is getting progressively better at music throughout the episode.

The first song was about music if you use language it won't work (simple song) The second one you need to make the music vibe like the zombies did Thats why he needed the lever (long notes) The third is short notes but a ton of notes thats why they throw the jukebox The 4th was just a trader trying to entertain some random dude (my favorite) The last song was about rough childhood. You hear them more on drama show especially Japan shows.
