Under what laws are employers allowed to discriminate agsints job applicants with criminal records?

What do you beleive is the hardest law school class for first year students? Excellent video.

Laws prohibit certain types of discrimination, such as making decisions based on race. Discrimination does occur for many reasons, such as only hiring people with college degrees or those with typing skills. No laws prohibit discrimination against those with criminal records.

@@davidsoto4394 For me it was property, but this will be different for each student. Factors include the teacher, the book, the time of day, and one's general disposition towards the material.

This was a super helpful video. I remember a few months ago I told you at the age of 37 I was going back to finish high school and than attempting to work my way toward a law degree. Happy to say I have finished the first month and a bit with straight A’s all around. I even fortune enough there is a grade 12 law class. I often tell the teacher about your videos but we love in Canada and we don’t talk about American law at all. Keep up your amazing work though, this video pretty much will make you a better student in any class. 1 month down and 7 more years to go, I got this. Thanks for everything

That's great news--glad you are working to achieve your dreams. When I taught in North Dakota, had many students from Manitoba--loved working with my Canadian students.

Hi Beau, I am in my third year LLB in Australia and note taking is something which I have found progresses as much as my knowledge of law. I used to copy the power points and add in a little wording of my own, but that become too tedious and ineffective. Then I would hand write verbatim what the lecturer was saying and again, far too tedious. Enter late second year and I watched your vid on Cornell notes... this way seemed quite effective, with some of my own additions. Now, I incorporate my tutorial problem solving framework when I type my notes after class. Personally I find this works best for me and great in exams to have both theory and minor case description or related doctrine, and problem solving techniques all structured according to the subject matter. Its taken me over half the degree to work out what works best for me, but now I have my note taking techniques honed, it works really well. It’s a shame note taking isn’t taught in any great detail, as that seems to be half the battle of learning. Thanks for the great vids, they are always an informative session 👏

Many times, how good notes are depends on how good the professor is and how structured the lecture is.

Maybe, but good luck finding a prosecutor willing to bring charges.

Yes, under tort you can bring a claim. The issue for you comes down to provable damages. Most often these claims are entitled to nominal damages of $1. And then there is your reputation, as people may view you negatively for bringing the suit.

Hello Mr. Baez! Should I accept a full ride at U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Law or half price at Northwestern Law? As a follow up, would going to something like Yale at full price be more worth it than U of Illinois for free? Thanks!
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 3 года назад
If you get into Yale, go to Yale--more opportunities than you can imagine. My general advice is to go to a T14 if you get admitted, though it depends on what you want to do. If you are planning to practice in a small town or by yourself, then the big name law school won't make a huge difference. The only problem is you don't know what grades you will earn in law school relative to your colleagues. They are all smart, and 25% of them will graduate at the bottom 25%. Fewer opportunities for a Northwestern grad in the bottom. And there is no way of knowing in advance, as everyone there will be motivated to succeed.

Excellent video as always Professor, thank you so much. Although I have a question regarding the bonus law fact case, could customary laws of those territories have taken place in lieu of those not yet enacted?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 3 года назад
The court held there were no laws, statutory or customary. Though I’ve wondered if they would have reached the same result for murder.

Hello professor, ı need to ask you a question about law degrees. İ am at Turkey (yes i am the same person commented on your video) and i want to study law here. But i need to ask this; if i get my law degree here, is it equal with other countries law degrees?
@aknozturk3069
@aknozturk3069 3 года назад
İ mean if i get my law degree here in Turkey, can i use my law degree in America or any other country?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 3 года назад
It depends on the country. And in America, law is regulated by each of the 50 States. So in many States, you would need to attend a US law school. In some States you could sit for the bar exam with a law degree from Turkey. And in others, earning an LLM from an ABA accredited law school would allow you to sit for the bar exam. Now, once licensed, you would need to get a work visa, which are hard to get. And few law firms would want to hire a foreign trained lawyer because there are more lawyers than jobs.

Hi professor, I'm gonna attend law school in Australia in February. I was wondering what the differences between Australian law schools and American law schools are. Could you give me some information in this respect?
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 3 года назад
I’ve tutored students in Australia and found that our legal education systems are similar, more so than the US and UK. The main differences are that in Australia there is more reliance on lectures and tutors who teach portions of the course. In the US, professors teach everything, we don’t use official course tutors, and we rarely lecture, instead using the Socratic method. Exams are similar between both nations.

You need to take practice exams and then get feedback on how you did. Without feedback from a knowledge person, it will be hard to improve.

Scholarships are rare for international students. To have any chance for one, you would need nearly perfect college grades, a superb LSAT, and excellent TOEFL score.
