From Chainmail we came, and to Chainmail we shall return. There's been a weird spell of skirmish level wargames moonlighting as RPGs or RPG-adjacent games.
I've had a soft spot for retaliatory melee combat ever since Tenra Bansho Zero. It just kinda makes sense that attacking someone with active defenses and messing up horrible might just be worse than not attacking in the first place.
Rangers is one of the few skirmish games I've played, and it may just be my PR autism at play, but it did lend itself to in-character behavior. The skills and special abilities it provides create enough of a character that RP-minded players can inject roleplay into it and I really like it about the game.
Looks like Mcconaughey is at it again. Big fan of true detective... Jokes aside, I don't remember you -unironically- praising a game this much before. I gotto check this one out.
Unrelated, but this is a newer video. A guy in our group is thinking about getting City of Mist, given the general opinion of PTBA games on this channel, should I be excited?
Great video, as always. I like the author's work and enjoy his other projects, but have come to prefer the Five From games more in this "narrative skirmish game" genre.
