Hey, this was the first TTRPG I ever ran and have now ran it for 6 Years. Just to clarify somethings and share some thoughts. One of the things I love about TTB is it's customization. You wanna play a gunslinger? Cool there's a pursuit for that, but are they a gruff and intimidating or smooth and charming? There's mechanics to represent that. Wanna be a detective? Academic is a pursuit and it's mechanics work well for that. Wanna be a zombie journalist counter fitter? There's mechanics for that. I sold this game to my mate by explaining how you could play a robot ninja without any homebrew. The world is also so fucking cool. A casino that uses magic drugs to slowly eat peoples souls, Hilbilly goblins who use clothes as currency, a demon looking native people with Aliens acid blood, ghost rider looking police who only fight necromancers. It is a lot the system is deferentially not generic, the Advanced Pursuits in the corebook are all based on the different factions of Malifaux. But if you love wuxia martial arts, steam punk, gothic horror, survival horror, Indiana Jones esque adventures, high fantasy monster hunting, or the wild west theres some part of this world that'll hook you like a fish and reel you into one of the most creative settings i've ever read. But yes, the layout can be pretty jumbled. I don't think it's terribly laid out but I am the most biased. Please check it out, yes you could use another system but that feels like so much work to truly capture the settings depth, that you could spend half that effort and learn the new system which has some of the most amazingly diverse yet indepth mechanics in any TTRPG i've played.

Very cool video. Haven't seen much on TTB before. And yes, we here at Danger Planet can indeed confirm that M3E does indeed exist. Hahahaha. Hope to see you do more Wyrd stuff in the future!!!

"Maybe I should go over small Wargames" *oh dear* *OOOH DEAR* I was thinking about dropping some recs, but there are too many - also, those systems are a bit, shall I say, "generic"

I might get to be in campaign of this soon. Our table has been fascinated by it even if only I've ever played malifaux the actual minis game. The game seems decently tactical in combat and triggers do make for interesting options, and the character advancement system is very interesting. I think you should have mentioned the divination that comes out of the tarot and how those are progressed as the characters 5 step storyline each giving them either skill or innate magic advancement upon completion, as it's central to the characters aspect as "fated", you have a predestined fate, you just don't know how it will play out.

I wrote it out, but it was adding an extra minute to the video, so it just got cut for raw maths behind things.

I tried to buy the TTRPG from Amazon, but apparently the books are REALLY hard to come by. The buyer lost the book apparently so I got a refund. Sad I didn't get the book though.

I played a demo of the wargame ages ago. Boy let me tell you never have I done so much and have nothing happen, I would play a card to do something and my opponent would beat it with his counter card play and on and on and mind you this was a demo game he was running and he trounced me. 0/10 would not play again

Just come here to say the TTRPG isn't like this at all. NPCs use static values, meaning they're always considered to have flipped the same card value every time they do something so you'll always know what you have to beat. Also the guy running the demo game sounds like a real prick. The wargame uses opposing draws from the deck of cards so the only way he'd be countering you is if he kept cheating fate, which sounds like it's not a Malfiaux problem and more breaking the golden rule "don't beat people when you're introducing them to a game."

@@MrDrewwills I get that its not PvP like the wargame but damn it put a bad taste in my mouth

@@Yithmaster Oh 100% understandable that sounds like a real shit experience. Just wanted to point out that in this game there is no way to get cheated out of an action. A grissly bears defence is and always will 11.

@MrDrewwills Yeah it was he was running the guy that can make robots out of wrecks and I could barely kill any of them obviously with his constant counters and it just like this is so unfun

@@Yithmaster Oh man that sounds like the prefect storm of bad game introductions. The ttrpg isn't anything like that tho don't worry.

Wow that twist deck system has so much wasted potential. I was gonna guess it was based on your class or something but having 4 static decks like that is just so boring. What if you could build your own twist deck from cards you get from your class and background? That would add so much strategy and decision making to character creation since you want cards that can trigger your abilities so you need to measure how many of each trigger you need.
@MrDrewwills
@MrDrewwills 6 месяцев назад
You can already sort of do that. The deck is made up of cards from 1-13, and like it shows each of the four suits will make up 3-4 cards in that deck. Each suit has a esoteric meaning but when you're making your twist deck you should absolutely think about what triggers you need. Hell magic in this game requires specific suits depending on the kind of magic, so if you wanna be a necromancer you should have lots of crows in there. Also there are lots of ways to play with the twist deck. In the core book there are general talents (think 5e Feats) that increase the value of cards in your twist deck, there's a class that lets you add essentially a nat 20 to your twist deck. The game is like Pathfinder in that it gives you A LOT of decisions, the possible builds and customization is near endless so adding extra complexity to twist decks would probably reach the tipping point especially since it's required during character creation.
