@Nunchuckstraberry Juno 106 have the IR3109 VCF, its just potted into a module.The voice VCF-VCA is the same for all of them just HPF that differs. JX3p dont have the same IR VCA its NPn discrete and is noisier by design, the Q circuit is also very different cusing IMD to be different then the rest. JP6 VCF is a whole different design and topology then all the rest JP6 also uses CEM 3360 VCA's and is dual VCA design. They all differ in details, you have to study the schematics better.

Even if you have that kind of money I don't think you should buy two Junos, which are still very limited and incredibly similar-sounding synthesizers. _Looking at you, Charlie Puth..._

I *really* like the Junos... but I LOVE the Jupiter 6. :)

@artisans8521. I’ve got a Yamaha dx 7 and korg poly 61 from the 80s .. I’ve only had to replace a simple battery in both units. Nothing more ... Not sure modern behringer synths will last that long. I’ve heard behringer model D’s crapping out within 1-2 years.. lifeless . That’s some great quality.. I haven’t even mentioned other vintage synths I’ve had zero issues with. 🤷‍♂️

I think Starsky Carr actually has some more competition from Alex Ball, when it comes to owning and using vintage gear and creating classic 80s sounding tunes! Although Alex will also throw in the 70s as well! 😃

I've had the 106 for years. I keep an eye out for stuff to demo, and people offer me broken things occasionally to see if there's anything I can do with it. The 6 and the 60 are recent purchases I've had to get repaired so I could demo them. I'll pass one of them on once I think I've done all I can with them, but keep the other as the sound is cool. I tend to buy and sell stuff to demo, hence my pleads for Patreon at the end of every video... I'm not the best at making money from them as I always pay to get them repaired. I need better soldering skills!

106 has a real sweet spot in that mid range 😆

maybe during live performance it's more efficient to just use the off button plus it saves wear and tear on the two chorus buttons

It’s the noise reduction I’m using … AI based and every now and then it tries to make a human voice from the synths. I catch most of it but every now and then I hear a weird synth Starsky voice making random vowel sounds… a bit (lot) freaky.

@@ghost_mall it’s honestly what it sounds like. Me as a freaky synth voice - like the primal screams of an artificial life-form desperately trying to will itself into existence.

No, I think that's the tone. This has been serviced - but you can't really open the filter anymore - you can tweak the cutoff so they're all the same etc. I don't think its a caps issue - they all do it... plus the 106 I have here has been placed against the Roland Cloud and Softube emulations and they were bang on.

Haha I know I spotted that in the banks … then forgot to edit it out. I’d actually talked too long about the hidden banks for calibration etc.. so remade that section without going too far down the geek hole. It’s odd when recording stuff while thinking about the next bit, checking various bits and Bob s as you talk .. answering the doorbell, redoing stuff, forgetting what you’ve already said… then realise you’ve used the completely wrong words. The number of times I say envelope rather than filter and similar weird stuff. There’s probably a medical condition to describe it!

Thanks. I was flattered to be invited especially with such company! I don’t have the X but have had the Xm and chose the S8 - mainly because the interface in the Xm needed too much menu diving for things I use a lot. The X should be easier and looks and feels much nicer as an instrument. Sonically it’s not as accurate as the S8 which are the Cloud Legendary series. Best thing to do to decide for yourself is to take out the free subscription for a month and see if it makes a difference to you.

@@StarskyCarr Yeah I am no fan of menu diving, that's why I got rid of my MC707. The S8 seems a favorite of many due to less menu diving than the X series Zen based hardware.

@@VisionsMusicGroup mine was intended as a module, so I could have an extra 8 synths per se, with only 3 assignable knobs to do anything per synth, it was just a nightmare to do anything.

The AJ is great, but probably a solid 3rd or 4th place here, depending on whether you have a hardware controller? If not, the 106 is a superior instrument with its UI. I personally value the weirdness of the AJ over the 106, even with just a stock Alpha Dial. I don’t find it hard to use, and I know how to get where I want to go quickly; but most people probably wouldn’t want to take the time to learn? That said … the 6 and 60 are the cream of the crop. They are basically simpler versions of the Jupiter 8, and they share many of the same components.

@@79Glitch Soundwise I take AJ over 106 any day. It actually sounds closer to 6/60 than 106 (if you discount tones where filter is driven to self oscilation). But UI thing is of course consideration. Anyways, you still can get AJ with controller for lot less than 106. Also to mention, it is lot more expressive when asked for (velocity sensitivity / aftertouch) and additional simple LFO for PWM is another great feature. That is 100% correct, 6 and 60 sound awesome and they share same circuit for filter / eg / amp as J8, JX-3P is even closer to it.

@@DestroyER82 Yeah, I agree … I think. I’ve never been able to play around with a 106 for more than a few minutes. From what I can tell, it seems the extra wave shapes and weird envelopes allows the A Juno’s to get a lot weirder and more experimental, or more versatile? So I’ve always liked that about it: it can create some really unique sounds. But when I just want to play and have fun in a musical sense … I go to my Juno 6 almost 10 out of 10 times. To me … the Juno 6 is a true musical instrument that I will never tire of … like a guitar or piano or something along those lines. Part of that is the gorgeous sounds and eternal sonic sweet spot that it has, but I think a big part of that is the lack of patch memory and perfect UI that forces you to learn and memorize all the controls, which allows it to become an extension of your own personal voice or vocabulary when you play … or something like that? The Alpha Juno is something I view more along the lines of some of other more modern synths I have, which function more like a production tool … more so than an instrument, if that makes sense? The A Juno is fun to explore and use in sound design, and it can also do specific jobs with pads and strings or even bass and percussion. But I rarely want to just sit and play it like my J6. I don’t know if a hardware controller would change that? Because I also have a modern Moog that has nice controls laid out, but they don’t have the same elegance and simplicity of the J6. I’m thinking that is also the real value of the MiniMoog. A lot of its value, in my opinion, is the iconic, elegant layout of the UI, which it allows it to have that same musical instrument experience that I love most about the Juno 6. Anyway … didn’t mean ramble on so much, but this is obviously a topic I love to talk and think about! And the bottom line is … you literally can’t go wrong with that early to mid 80’s Roland era. All of those synths have something going for them, and they all have a little magic. If only Roland could get some of that Behringer spirit and reclaim some of that past glory … even as just an experiment to see how profitable it would be? Imagine if they released a re-vamped J8 or J60 that was fully analog and faithful to the past? I would imagine it would sell out instantly. And you’re right-I think a JX3P is definitely something I might buy one day, just to fully test it out and see if it sticks for me.

@@79Glitch For me Alpha Juno is workhorse, it perfectly fits into every genre and every mixdown, not many synths can do it so easily. And exactly as you are writing, the sonic capability is really wide. I dont have Juno 6, but friend who lives two streets away has one and I played it quite a bit and completely understand you, because the feel from playing is really pleasant. Similairy for me work very close machine from same time that I own - Korg Polysix, it is not that always "sweetspoty" (is that a word? :D), because raw tone is more powerful and wild than any Juno, but yeah, similair. Hardware controller for AJ definitely helps and isnt that insanely expensive (~330eur on Thomann). Never been fan of Minimoog, but that is just personal taste. Overall I find Yamaha synths more for me for raw tone and expressivity, for example go-to machine for me to just play is already for years Yamaha SK-30, that thing is one amazing 70's sweet spot with everything to control on panel and then of course CS + SY models from 70's. I would really like CS-80, but recently announced UDO Gemini seems to be the ONE, finally! JX-3P is awesome, I had couple chances for one, but I struggle for space and for my music and styles / moods I like.. im keeping JX-8P. Roland keeps pumping cheap digital rubbish (even the new and expensive Juno-X feels cheap and build quality is laughable when you have chance to compare against original one) and leaving it all the Behringer... And agree, if they do it reasonably (like DS did with Prophet 5) it will sell like crazy, because people want exactly that. All the best to you!

It’s more like the original in that it doesnt have FX. .. more of a purer take on it. There’s nothing in it sonically really.
