Jinjer Army reporting for duty. The rabbit hole of songs is very deep, they don't have a bad song and every one is different. They performed this song here how they do it live; they only have one guitarist (now), so second guitar parts that many songs have are piped through the PA or board (you can hear it here in the pre-chorus) and Tati has some subtle tracks that she harmonizes with to enhance the overall sound. Oftentimes live, you can see Tati pull her in-ears almost on every song to make sure she's hitting the correct pitches when singing.

I'm not generally a fan of screaming metal, but I love Jinger because of the writing, vocals, that awesome drummer the bassist, and guitar. There's some serious talent in the band, and as a classical musician, I really appreciate that.

We will have such sights to show you! Jinjer is the best thing out there. Stellar musicians. Perennial live at Wacken is generally next. Then Judgement & Punishment one take vocal. After that take your pick…every song is amazing and unique. Vortex, Wallflower, Teacher Teacher, Disclosure, Call Me A Symbol. Two of their more rip your face off songs are Sit Stay Rollover and Mediator. Welcome to the Jinjer family ❤

nice Hellraiser reference 😉 (and probably quite appropriate) imo, Vortex and Mediator are 2 where Vlad absolutely steals the show. @DJ : Disclosure is going to give you your "little bit rock-y" intro/verse .... i'll let you choose your own adjectives for the chorus (when you get around to it) 😉

I was going to say check out Perennial live from Wacken. It's toward the end if their set and when she speaks she's winded but the vocal performance is flawless and she OWNS that stage. Also, there's a technique used when making harsh vocals. You engage the false chords and your actual vocal chords aren't used. It takes years of practice. If you do it wrong you could do damage. There are vocal coaches who specialize in this.

This video is a re-release of an older song. The drummer here (Vlad, their current drummer) had just joined the band and they liked what he added to the song. There is post-production on this but the additional vocal tracks are still Tatiana, just layered. Check out any of the live songs and you'll see how amazing all these guys really are!
@Haarkad
@Haarkad 7 месяцев назад
Even though it is a live session, they have indeed layered some vocals. You can hear a whisper added in an earlier section as well. This release was to showcase their new drummer Vlad. He's incredible. You can even hear some layering added in post for the live shows. Speaking of which, You are going to get a LOT of suggestions and they will all be pretty damn good. They 100% shine live. Most people hit up "Perennial" live at Wacken next then branch off in to many directions.
@mityakiselev
@mityakiselev 7 месяцев назад
I think they definitely layered some stuff in post, like the prechorus sounds multitracked, but it is by no means a bad thing. Tatiana (the vocalist, she's Ukrainian as well as all the guys) can produce almost the same sound naturally, she mainly uses her ventricular folds (false vocal cords) in this song, switching to fry on the words "death" and in the very end. She's basically making a very airy sort of growl, she's not even singing in the normal sense of the word when she does that, ahd that already takes mad skillz to pull off, but she's also able to switch to her chest voice in a matter of seconds, which is truly something special. She's really good at doing that without any layering though, look up their concerts

Really wonderful reaction! Very insightful commentary. Welcome to the world of Ukrainian progressive metalcore/groove metal. Jinjer is not a beginner band and understandably can be too much for many not used to complex music. The balance you speak of is key and for me is best shown as the 4 of them are truly world-class at their skills but they perform without ego, and create complete songs. Tatiana is one of the best growlers out there. And the incredible depth is achieved through false chord activation. This session does have some back end mixing done to it and some effects have been added like the harmonizer at the end of the 2nd verse but the performance was tracked live. For one of their best performances check out "Perennial" live at Wacken. Hope to see more soon

Imagine being the class clown? Cue their song "Teacher, Teacher"!??.... This live studio video was originally made/intended to show off their new drummers' skills! Mad skills! You did say something like "A woman who can do it all"... yes, you're right! Vocal fold echo - two tones at the same time - usually an octave or more apart in harmony. Some singing Ukrainian monks could do it, maybe Tati learned it too?

They often use a tiny delay plus reverb on vocals in their live performances. It is also possible that this recording had some post-production to clean things up. But they consistently play this good on stage so it doesn't matter. Lyrics for this one are written by Tati, except for the last verse written by Eugene, the bass player.

And this isn't even her low growls. My first Jinjer concert I was standing next to a stack of speakers and her _low_ growls shook every cell in my body. And this isn't even all the games she can play with her cleans either. This is live-ish. There's post production layering of the vocals. But she can absolutely bring it live, which is why we usually suggest a concert video as a followup. Perennial at Wacken actually has a bit of clean layering at one point that wasn't in bootlegs from the show. I'm glad you pulled up the lyrics. Tatiana's lyrics are always worth looking up the lyrics for. Subbed. Cheers!

One of her influences? Gwen Stefani. Amy Winehous is another. The switch happens very natural for her. She's known for it. I have a playlist of excellent live videos from them. Any of them would be good for a reaction. ru-vid.com/group/PLhlYsqoR9XLEpHTbaOovrpa1p8L2uZ81G Some people mistake a "live session" for a "live performance". Basically a "live session" is how you start a recording not how you end it. Prior to the early 70s every band had no choice but to do live sessions where everyone started the recording of the song gathered together in the same room because there wasn't enough tracks to do the recording instrument by instrument the way it can be done now. After all the band members record their base parts for the song, they have the option for adding to them afterwards. Live sessions are done now to capture the magic of a band which is good playing together live. Jinjer is one of those bands. They can still go back and add additional layers if they like which is what is done here. So yes you did hear it right. She in a few places here and there layered her voice to thicken it afterwards which is a pretty common technique in recording because unlike guitar players who have effect pedals and amps she just has her voice. They also like to use her backup vocals in live performance which is also very common these days.

Welcome to the world of Jinjer, they are so good. Tatiana I believe has an English Lit degree and all their song have very deep and great lyrics. I know they call this "live", but there is some edit involved with the overlay to her voice near the end. It's a live recording, not a live performance. There's a lot of post production throughout the song, as it should. Absence of post production would be amateurish, not impressive. Their studio recordings are professional and impeccable, and their live performances blow you away with their incredible energy. Best of both worlds, quite like Electric Callboy in this regard. What truly shocks me is how people failed to recognize their awesomeness. Go watch Teacher Teacher, which is a studio recording with a video clip made of clips from live performances... in which they were opening for another band!

Even with live recordings, you can go back and add tracks and manipulate/balance the final audio. I don't know enough to say that's what was done when it sounds like her voice is doubled, but I wouldn't call it dishonest either - it's part of the process of creating a music video. Jinjer is a Ukrainian band. Their song "Home Back" is about being forced to leave their homes when Russia (pretending to be separatists) took over in the Donetsk region in 2014. When Russia formally invaded in 2022, several of the band members (then living elsewhere in Ukraine) initially weren't allowed to leave Ukraine because they qualified for the military draft. They were eventually able to get waivers allowing them to go out on tour, but it shows how very relevant the song still is and I think you'll love it. You should definitely have the lyrics pulled up to follow along.

Great reaction as a jinjer fan i have seen many but yours is one of the best. Jinjer is from ukraine they are titled as cultural ambassadors and therefore allowed to leave the country and the guys don,t have to fight the russians. What you heard is called vocal layering and a prerecorded bit is used to give an extra layer to the voice and you can only do this if your timing is right. Now for jinjer as i understand it works for them in the way that the guys create a piece of music and then tatie goes and listens to it and she makes the lyrics based on what she hears and feels. Enjoy the rabbithole the jinjer army is growing and growing.

While I believe this song was done to highlight their new drummer, the setup of her cleans and growls just makes for a great reaction because no one sees it coming. Although this was basically a live session, there is a little post-production. Close attention to the various camera shots suggests that they did two takes, and augmented the vocals of one with doubling from the other in a few places. This was actually a re-presentation of an older song of theirs, made in order to showcase their (then) new drummer, Vlodimir, to their existing fanbase. They were quite surprised when it went viral and broke them internationally to an audience unfamiliar with Tatiana's style. In live concert, Tatiana often uses vocal backing tracks as part of the overall artistic effect (as of course, do many other bands). I suggest you follow this up by watching 'Perennial' from their 2019 Wacken appearance. Some online lyrics read "Scale armour blaze, Virgin innocence" while others give "Scale armour belies virgin innocence", which is what I hear in this recording and which I think makes much more sense poetically in the overall context of the song.

On point comments with the No Doubt Gwen Stefani & "comfortable feeling" comments. For me this track gives HUGE Incubus vibes, especially on the mellow bits. No Doubt & Incubus are big influences with this band, but then so are SO MANY other varied artists, including Otep, House Of Pain, Bob Marley, Lamb of God, Mudvayne...the list goes on. Yeah...their influences are kinda broad :D No one else screaming with her, but yeah, this "live" session isn't really live. Her voice is definitely layered and compressed at multiple points of the song. This was an intro track for their new drummer Vlad. Don't worry though, she goes as hard live as she does on this track :) This is definitely one of their most mellow tracks. The outro is more indicative of their normal sound (if you could even say that they have a "normal" sound.) HIGHLY recommend checking out Teacher Teacher next. That song is the one that solidified me as a Jinjer fan, and it really shows off the skill of the rest of the band (not that this one doesn't, but her "surprise" vocals kinda overshadow their elite musicianship.) I think I recall your channel from your Electric Callboy reactions. There's a HUGE crossover between EC & Jinjer fans. Seems like a weird combo, but eh, we love em both!

Gods, I love watching people break the first time they hear this track and this group. I don't know if you've seen it, but next Christmas you should react to Elliott Robinson's Not That Mean (A Grinchy Rebuttal), which is the second from the right, second row of the recommended videos after the Pisces video finished. I think you'll enjoy that as a diehard Grinch fan Edit: Elliott's name and track title correction

11:15 - Funny that you think that, because putting aside the fact that there are no original members left in the band since 2015, of the current lineup Tatiana is the oldest member, shortly followed by Roman, the guitarist, so it was them who joined her and not the other way around. 🙂

The band writes the song first, then Tatiana does the lyrics. This video was to showcase Vlad thier new drummer.

I loved your reaction. Yeah, Tati is one of the best at the false vocal cord technique. Another one the bands that influenced Jinjer is the band Opeth and I highly recommend them if you are not familiar.
