"There is a difference between you and me. We both looked into the abyss, but when it looked back at us, you blinked." To this day, one of the greatest quote from Batman

@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp tbh same, while I can't say for sure what elements are carry-overs from the DCAU version other than the tower being mid-construction and the relative size of the team, it wouldn't work as an inbetween-seasons story given the scope.
The initial origin for Owlman is that he’s the older brother of Bruce Thomas jr., his family were killed by a corrupt cop, so he trained himself to fight crime in his parents name. But when he met the cop, it’s revealed he only did because his parents were the corrupted ones, this shocked Owlman as everything he’s been fighting for meant nothing. So he concluded the nothing matters and lets the cop die anyway.
Sadly that is not the original canon for Owlman. Before the movie he was just a child sociopath that killed Bruce and their parents in that alley. The character only got more depth with James Wood's variant, which then went on to influence every other iteration of him, including the one you speak of! Which is miles better for sure since even his Dark Metal appearance had the same personality
@@Thaltas OK my confusion was that in original one from JLA: Earth 2 when it was known as the Antimatter Universe. His family was killed but his dad was secretly alive. The one I mentioned is his newest origin in the Infinite Frontier run, which lines up more so with the original Antimatter Universe variation compared to the child psycho. So I got them mixed up.
Honestly I really love what this movie does with the Crime Syndicate and especially Owlman and his philosophy of pure nihilism and how he believes if there are infinite possibilities in infinite universes than what's the point of doing anything? Owlman is everything Batman doesn't want to be and doesn't want to lat that darkness and endless abyss of apathy and cold, empty emotionless void. Unlike Owlman Batman still was able to retain his compassion, his humanity and love for others.
Owl man was an incredible villain and his line “nothing matters” haunts me. But there is just too much to cherish in this world where even the smallest act of kindness does matter
I like to think that there is another origin for Owlman, and that it is the definitive version of his origin. Thomas Wayne Jr had a similar story to Bruce Wayne. However, the thug that kills Thomas and Martha Wayne is actually the corrupt detective Harvey Bullock Thomas Jr then follows a similar path to Bruce wayne, and when he finally catches Bullock as the new mask vigilante owlman, it is revealed that his family was as corrupt, if not more so, then the police force. With this new understanding, Owlman begins to think that every decision he makes is meaningless.
Owlman's logic of "nothing matters because every choice one ponders upon has already been acted upon in different universes" has a flaw in it, in that any 2 extremely mirrored versions of one person technically aren't the same because there's always something different that happened in their lives. If anything, multiple versions of the same character, no matter how the same, are pretty much "twins". Even identical twins will have something where they differ on. An alternate version of you wearing a red shirt this one particular day doesn't mean you here doing that, but rather, basically someone else. So still, everything matters. Edit: And following that logic, I don't believe in quantum suicide.
It’s not really a flaw for Owlman because he doesn’t value human life. He doesn’t care that there are other versions of himself doing other things. He’s bothered by his lack of control over the situation, and his ego is hurt by essentially one of many individuals that have the same accomplishments and prowess.
@@Chadius No. What I'm saying is that the Owlman who didn't enter Earth Prime is not the Owlman who entered. I cannot classify them as the same being. They had to be identified separately.
There was a more recent take on Owlman in the comics that's very clearly inspired by this take on Owlman and honestly I dug the way they handled his origin there where he starts as a "hero" out of obligation but realizes it was built on a lie and nothing matters.
That Batman Flash lie taught me a lesson I will never forget. I watched this movie when I was a bigger flash fan than Batman, now I like the scene even more. This was a great movie
@@Venxous how are we supposed to know that? I don’t remember them ever saying Mary or Mary Marvel in the movie (I know you’re right I just don’t know why they changed it)
I think this Owl Man wasn't based on the version where he's the older brother of Bruce and killed their parents But instead the first version where in the comic he still is Thomas Wayne Jr but there is no little brother but he does has the same backstory and journey as Batman. The main difference is Owl🦉and when he caught his parents killer it was revealed to him that the parents he belived as the good people, the only light in gotham are also corrupt which shattered his world view which caused him to be the bad guy he is
6:30 Owlman would have gotten into Superman's head and kicked his ass. Batman knew that and that's why he went there himself. The only one who could face Owlman was himself.
I remeber as a small child watching this moive in my moms car instead of going out to the beach and i have watched it so many times i can recite it word fir word
Honestly one thing i feel would be really interesting for an "evil batman" would be a batman that never had that scarring event ended up like a jerk. He's someone that took his pain and molded it and never wants anyone to go through it (no kill rule).
i've never understood the premise of a multiverse invalidating everything. So infinite situations happen yes, but you aren't living those, the countless other yous are. Everything you do still effects your own life, and the pretense that a different you that you will never meet made a different decision means that nothing matters is an utter non sequitur
It's certainly an interesting concept, and it's one of those things that if you are both logical and already somewhat unstable (which Owlman definitely was), it does make some sense. It's one of those things that really does depend on how you look at it as well.
One of the best DC animated movies. Owlman had some amazing quotes "whats the piont of a bomb if you don't detonate it" Not sure if thats word for word but I think it's close to the original quote. Wish I had a better memory as he came up with better ones but I can't remember them.
Owlman will always be the true evil Batman to me. I think evil versions of characters should be the antithesis to everything a hero stands for, not a perversion of the same character like The Batman Who Laughs.
Can You Do Videos on The Justice League Series like with the EMH Avengers?! But maybe Do more then 1 on Each Character as they had So Much More of a Run then EMH did (The INJUSTICE), Many more seasons and all that, Especially Superman and Batman Even More.
I think they sent Batman because of the BOMB. After all the years working in Gotham, an alternate Batman and a delicate situation I would have sent Batman too. Because Superman is a good, powerful and smart guy. But Batman is devious. The last thing they’d need is for some motion / superhuman sensor BS to happen. [ These guy literally packs shark repellent!] That’s just why I would send Batman. Because who better to deal with a Batman made bomb than Batman? Plus Batman might make owl man relaxed enough not to immediately blown it up!
I am a.......who cares how much liquid is in the class. Someone is just going to come by and knock the glass over and spill the contents on the ground. Lol. 😂😂😂
While I love All Star Superman, I feel like this was the best DC animated movie. I feel Dwayne Mcduffie was really able to build something different from the comic's story. The way the characters define themselves through their actions, in subtle ways, was perfect, and really played into the overall thesis of the film. Makes me sad that he passed so soon. I guess I should feel blessed that we got what we got...
I will definitely be listening to this later because I want to hear your perspective and everybody comments. This film is awesome. Outside of the obvious with Bruce and Thomas which is amazing I love the parallels between the other characters. Rewatch this movie so many times. I wish we got this in the MCU further dived in since they are in the multiverse.
Wow this was a great video. I’ve never seen this film before but I found this discussion very interesting due to the similarities with the religion my family follows. And how “all of our actions are meaningless” cause we have no autonomy in the eyes of the religion so this discussion was very interesting keep up the great work my dude.❤
You should collab with the channel Implicitly Pretentious. He does very similar videos to these and I think two could bring a unique angle to a whatever piece of media you cover together.
The problem with trying to save the world is that you are just one dude. You can only be in one place at a time. Saving the universe is the same problem, but one order of magnitude greater. You can only be on one planet at a time.
This movie would have been better if Owlman had successfully blown up "Earth Prime", only for it to turn out that his hypothesis that this will destroy all reality is completely false. He blew up a planet, and himself, for nothing. It would be a more complete defeat: He would be proven _utterly_ wrong and wouldn't even be around to know about it, meaning his worst fear came true: He didn't matter. Not even a little bit. He never even came close to reaching his goal because his method was fundamentally incapable of working. Whatever he did to Batman, however well he fought, it wouldn't make a sliver of difference. Not in any way he cared about, at least. Plus, it would make more sense. Because Earth isn't the center of the universe, and no version of it should be any more significant than any other. It makes no sense for an "Earth Prime" to exist, when every decision splits the timeline into two equally valid versions of itself. No part of Owlman's hypothesis makes any sense whatsoever, so showing it not working would be better than leaving the movie under the assumption that it was somehow true.
bro i thought 100% for sure superwoman was wonder woman not mary marvel random things u learn watching videos huh i remember when these movies were coming and coming so consistently good
Half empty, half full? Honestly, I don't care whether the cup is seen as half full or empty, I'm only thirsty. You can have a different perspective to mine, just don't get in my way. I dunno about Owlman being a nihilist. Why does Owlman try talk to with Batman if they're so alike? Why do anything at all? I mean who would put all of their effort into destroying everything if they believed in nothing? Unless when Owlman says "nothing matters", he could probably mean "The absence of everything matters". I could see this statement supporting his implication of humanity being a cancer and justifying his means of eradicating all planes of existence, however, his belief still leans more to the pessimistic side in my eyes. Owlman himself has looked at the different possibilities of multiple universes, but only focuses on the negatives. When batman says that owlman was once good, he retorts with "No, not good, never good. After all, I'm only human." If Owlman and Batman are alike, then Owlman is the side that has no hope for humanity. He probably tried everything he could think of and this is the result. In all honesty, Owlman seems to be going the Rha's Al Ghul route and dialing it up to its' peak trying to wipe the slate clean through some sense of "Absolute Justice".
Hmm, its an intresting issue, does the other you make his choice because you made yours, or did he just make his own and with unlimmited reroles all the yous will in the end make every choice. I would say that in the end other yous are not you and that your choices are your own, I think the idea that your choices dont matter because another you makes another choice is silly because there is no "other you" just some one who looks like you, and to be honest what is the real difference between other versions of you making other choices and just other people doing the same thing in your own universe. I mean, Venxous has a youtube channel with good videos on it, I have one too but did almost nothing with mine, instread I work in Grapic design, others made better and worse choices then me ended up ahead or behind, lucky, unluckly... if I met another me who made good videos like Venxous then why judge him different then I would judge Venxous. Though its a really intresting concept with Owl man and a crazy deep rabbit hole xD
