I remember Mike Bossy saying something similar about goaltenders in general once live on TV, i couldn’t believe that someone that mastered a part of the sport so well could simultaneously be completely clueless about the other side of it.

Back in the day they would say Gretzky sucks too. They would say he is a goal suck, all he does is stand in front of the net and tap it in. Then when he started getting less goals and more assists. Oh he sucks, all he does is stand behind the net and pass to the open playing out front.

Playing beer league, as a forward I try to just get puck to the net shot quality doesn't really matter as long as it gets there rebounds deflection anything can happen. Goalie is the hardest position in hockey every shot can be dangerous

Statistically yes, its very very unlikely that 12 v 47 shots would give you win with perfect officiating, but hockey is an incredible sport, where things like that can happen

@isaacwest276, "soft"- gets banded quite a bit on Sabres channel @RoamHockey. Hopefully if Eric Robinson extends with the Sabres Wayne will slowly cut down the "this doesn't hit nearly as those there playing". Fans are always fickle if the result falls in their favour or not. 👍🏽

​@@shuyelbari8853Soft is the perfect adjective for how the Sabres were coached to play. They were explicitly coached to not hit, not fight, etc. to try and draw penalties. IDK why guys listened to the extent they did (with guys like Krebs even taking punches to the back of the head and refusing to so much as turn around), but they did, and they certainly looked soft for it. I don't care if you're a hockey player or just a normal guy, but if a guy has the gall to punch you in the back of the head I expect a reaction of SOME kind!

Heck, teams don't even refrain from running the score up in the playoffs if they can. All sportsmanship goes out the window once the tournament starts, it's just about Lord Stanley.

Good example is the game 7 penalty in 2019 Sharks vs Vegas. Yes the penalty swung the momentum but Vegas below a 3-1 series lead to even be in that position.

There are definitely better built teams for playoffs compared to others. The reg season game is far different then the playoff game as reg season plays to many games in to few of days in a physical sport such as hockey. I understand feelings get hurt these days so I think everybody is a Stanley cup champion this year, congratulations.

Sarcasm online lacks a lot of interactive context(timing of a comment, underlying direction of a discussion, little looks and delivery, etc). It also doesn’t help that comments tend to exist almost in a vacuum as commenters can say things but never make it clear which part of a 3 hour video they might be referring to. Add in poor grammar/sentence structure in communication and one often needs to realize walking away is the only wise move.

My sympathies for going to that game. That game doesn't count for me as a Stars fan. Stars just need to not lose 4 times to win the series.

Sometimes it feels pretty justified, though. There have been some blatant hits directly to the head and some slashing to the head that haven't received suspensions and probably should have. It would be nice if DoPS issued statements about why there was no disciplinary action taken. We might not like their decision, but at least we have a better idea of what they are looking for. Sometimes it feels like they don't want to risk missing taco Tuesday because of a hearing.

In all fairness there are plays that DOPS just misses, and they're very egregious. Spearing a guy in the skucheles should be a fine every single time. That's not a hockey play, that's an intentional act of violence only committed to cause harm. Recklessly charging elbows first at a guy's head and jumping at him against the boards? See the above, that applies here as well. Sucker punching your opponent during live play when you weren't in a fight? See the above (I hate Marchand and I still think that was garbage). Those are just three recent examples, but they all have the same thing in common: they're not hockey plays, they're just acts of violence trying to harm an opponent. Checking and physicality have a place in the game, heck, so does fighting, but none of the above does.

@@chrismdb5686 Here's the rulebook on spearing. I don't know what was or was not called in the game in question, but this would imply that doing it twice in the same playoffs would warrant one game. It's not super common, so maybe that's why I have not personally seen someone get suspended. 23.5 Fines and Suspensions - Stick Infractions Category - In regular season League games, any player who incurs a total of two (2) game misconduct penalties for stick-related infractions in the “Stick Infractions Category”, before playing in 41 consecutive regular season League games without such penalty, shall be suspended automatically for the next regular season League game of his team. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty, the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game. In Playoff games any player who incurs a total of two (2) game misconduct penalties in the “Stick Infractions Category”, shall be suspended automatically for the next Playoff game of his team. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty in this category during the Playoffs the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game. Rule 62 - Spearing 62.1 Spearing - Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade, whether contact is made or not. 62.2 Double-minor Penalty - A double-minor penalty will be imposed on a player who spears an opponent and does not make contact. 62.3 Major Penalty - A major penalty shall be imposed on a player who spears an opponent (see 62.5). 62.4 Match Penalty - A match penalty shall be imposed on a player who injures an opponent as a result of a spear. 62.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - Whenever a major penalty is assessed for spearing, a game misconduct penalty must also be imposed. 62.6 Fines and Suspensions - There are no specified fines or suspensions for spearing, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).

So true about that last part on the refs. People can't just enjoy the sport.

I give people a pass for goals that are called back for being offsides. If it was so close that the linesmen, and players, and coaches, and spectators, and commentators ALL missed it, it probably doesn't matter. Had a few of those with the Sabres this season and the building was LOUD both before and after the replay was shown. NHL really needs to do something about that.

It has become about 50% of the comments related to any playoff game. It can be exhausting. I don't know why people watch a sport they don't trust to give a fair result. I don't know why players aren't screaming about it if it were true either. Imagine leaving it all on the ice, scoring a huge overtime series winner and then seeing most of the internet saying it was scripted. Guys break bones, lose teeth, get concussed, and wreck their bodies for this sport and people just say it's scripted. It's insulting.
