You have such a beautiful way of bringing us into understanding Teepa! This video actually made me very emotional… several years ago my husband and I took my mom and mother-in-law on a train trip. It was supposed to be an enjoyable time for all of us and for our moms to spend time together. What I didn’t know, what I didn’t understand is that my mom was experiencing early dementia. One of the skills she was losing was decision making-the ability to sort out choices, make sense of them and make a decision. After a couple of days of days of what I saw as being wishy-washy, I became extremely frustrated and lashed out with upset towards my mom. I cleared it up with her right away but it’s still haunts me. We lost her December 26, 2020. I attended one of your seminars with my sister in January 2020… It was incredibly educational… Far beyond my expectations. Everyone should have this awareness-it is invaluable. Thank you so much for all you do Teepa!❤️

@DarrisNelson When someone breaks their leg, it's obvious to others that they can't expect that person to perform at the same skill level with their broken leg that they were performing at previously with a healthy leg... When a brain starts changing its ability to function at previous levels, there is no cast or crutches or obvious physical cue to let others know the expectations of skill level may need to shift and the types of support may need to change a little to keep everyone feeling included in a healthy way. Like you said, awareness and accurate information is often the biggest missing piece for families and loved ones who are trying to offer the best support they can. So glad you found the information helpful and thanks for continuing to value education and awareness related to the journey of dementia! Thanks so much for the kind words and please share our page with anyone else you think might find the information helpful! teepasnow.com/resources/about-dementia/

This really hits home this week my dad was to go for a driving evaluation and the morning after the Dr. said why not give it a try, he said I'm afraid of failing , im not going to try. So many things for him are like what you said right now. Before he loved technology, tablet, computer etc... now said he just looks at and can't figure it all out. But if you help him he loves to watch and participate, just wish I was closer so he could have more help!! Your many videos are helping me alot. Thank you!

@SarahLevering Very glad you are finding the videos to be helpful! Recognizing that people living with dementia or other brain changes can absolutely still participate in activities that they have always enjoyed, just with a different level of support with their care partners, makes maintaining the quality of life for all involved, a much more achievable goal! THANKS Teepa to inspire us to be aware of changes of ourselves and people around us. Having married over thirties years, my husband told me that his memory was not as good as he was. Still he could still remember many terminologies that I never knew. Having an awareness of changes in behaviour and abilities overtime is a good start. It is how we keep improvising solutions as we start losing skills and abilities. Undoubtedly, there is so MUCH to learn from Teepa and her WONDERFUL PAC Team!!!!!

No way my husband can think these things out.( or tries to) He thinks he can do anything, but doesn’t want to. Can’t do much anymore except watch the I pad, and take walks. Spent all our money on scams before I caught on. He had a fall and hit his head, seemed to really bring it on bad. Only 66. So sad. I’m having to let go of the fun things in my life it looks like. My horses, my ranch, ect, and my husband. And in these hard times. Jesus help me! Thanks for video ( He has behavioral frontal temporal lobe dementia)

I have recently noticed that an elderly friend was not able to order from a restaurant menu even though there was no issue with his eyesight. We ordered his meal for him. This is the first time this has happened.

@DanaAkon So glad you were paying attention to your friend and what was happening for them. The first step to offering support to another person comes in NOTICING that something has changed for that person. Then, choosing to OFFER to do something to support the person with their changing skill set, can make such a huge difference in everyone leaving the situation feeling positive about the shared experience. For more information about brain changes, what that means for skills and abilities, and what kinds of support to offer loved ones who are experiencing changes, please visit us at: teepasnow.com/resources/about-dementia/

My partner is 60 and can no longer order for himself. He can read fine. But he only reads the name of the item and not the description. I've had to stop him from ordering something he won't like because he liked the name. It's a sad thing to watch. Glad you had your friends back with that

I break coffee cups constantly, sometimes just putting a cup on the counter I'll whack it too hard and be left holding the handle.

@RaySideCarDude The ability to accurately determine depth perception can be super tricky and can shift throughout the day as brain patterns change. Being aware of where you are with your skill level can significantly enhance your ability to advocate for yourself! Thanks for sharing!
