Chuck D wasn’t happy with “Shut ‘Em Down” being used for a song where Biggie outlines rules for drug dealers, so he brought a copyright lawsuit against Biggie’s estate
Chuck cleared that up on Vlad. He didn’t have a problem with Biggie using his voice but the other songwriters on Chuck’s song had a problem because they felt there was A LOT of MONEY to be made from that. Chuck said that only $12,000 was awarded from an album that sold/made MILLIONS.
The beat for this song was a promo done by Jeru The Damaja for Angie Martinez/Hot 97 radio station called the Hot 5 at 9. Five songs played at 9:00 at night I’m assuming. It’s the reason why the countdown goes to five at first then goes to nine. The basis for this song was an article about crack in the July 1994 issue of The Source magazine. Biggie’s mother is holding that same issue in the Juicy video. I’m assuming the man who wrote the article, Khary Kimani Turner, sued because his name is in the credits. I guess they did reach out for clearance beforehand. Biggie said number nine should have been number one to me for a reason.

Biggie was a lyrical genius! I noticed you mentioned the show Snowfall. You should check out this artist named Skyzoo. He has an album called "The Mind Of A Saint". It's based on that show as if the main character Franklin Saint was in the booth rapping about his life. Its a very dope album.

The Notorious B.I.G was using that name prior to Notorious B1 as proven by and article in the source in 92. Not mention Wreckx N Effect had already used that sample prior to either of them. I think she has to pause the music throughout to avoid RU-vid copyright strikes for music. Reactors can lose their channels or monetization. Most have to blur out videos too.
