How can I still get goosebumps every time the three of them join in the final verse. This is one of the most magnificent musical creations of all time.
Literally breathtaking. Can’t breathe when Fiori sings. Also… the lyrics are creepy and sad but that’s also just what’s so great about this song. Something moving in the way they show their crooked love.
@@l.m.s5753 Garou who played Quasimodo is a Canadian from the province of Quebec. Daniel Lavoie who played Frollo is a Canadian from the province of Manitoba. Patrick Fiori who played Phiebus is from Marseille France.
I've cried badly when I read 'Notre Dame de Paris' for the first time! My dearest Quasimodo, you will be forever one of my favourite characters with your unique soul!
Me too I watched it again and again... today too. The wording (in French) is so beautiful, correctly reflecting the feelings of the characters and so well rhymed... Beautiful work. All my respect and admiration.
The way how Frollo stands on his knee gets me every damn time I decide to rewatch this particular piece. His part is an absolute banger here both acting and voice. How he watches her first with sympathy and some sort of gentleness, but soon after its replaced with a clear feeling that Frollo is doomed (just listen to guitar parts during his part which are leitmotifs of destiny and fate)
It makes me sorry to see that the only one who had any innocence in his love was Quasimodo, and he never had any chance to begin with. While the other two think of her body and how to use her , the only thing Quasimodo wants to do is ''run his fingers through Esmeralda's hair''
Riiight? He is so much like one of those homeless children who are shown a bit of love and then all that they can think about is how to give that love back!
I finished reading the novel few days ago. My heart is still aching from the tragedy of it all. I tear up every time I think about Esmeralda and her mother, and Quasimodo clinging onto the corpse of his love like a loyal dog, for eternity. Pure beauty. The melody of this song is exactly how reading the novel feels.
We can clearly see that Quasimodo was the only real one in this. Frollo was a dirty old man obsessed with her. Phoebus was a womanizer who was hanging out with two girls at the same time. But despite being the "monster", Quasimodo truly loved Esmeralda, not only for her body, but for her soul. After all, Esmeralda was the only one who showed him, a spark of light he had ever known before Q.Q
@@alparslanbalci6303 Yes, you're right. To first comment - in the book Quasimodo's love wasn't so pure, Frollo dreamed about the world in which he wasn't a priest and Phoebus... he's the same.
I like how in the end they all express the same surrender to carnal desire, but its actually the exact words Quasimodo said at the end of the verse. It's like he was the first who, unclouded by ideas of God and sin or of pleasure and infidelity, sang about the consuming fire of his love for Esmeralda herself. It's like his love for her was the purest or maybe the most obsessed of the 3 and that's why he was the most tragic one
All of them sound amazing with their own vocal qualities but Garou takes the cake! What a mesmerising performance with his rough voice! So miserable yet so beautiful!!!
@@toottoot3410 I think for musical it likely has something to do with most of them being comedies, which kinda ruin the potential of musicals when used in a serious setting
@@akreondorplasy7782 That's not even remotely true. Assassins, Les Mis, Titanic, Jekyll and Hyde, Notre Dame de Paris, etc. Also what's wrong with comedies?
@@toottoot3410 Generally when people think about musicals, they think about Highschool musical and nothing else there's nothing wrong with comedies, but personally I'm not much of a fan of them
This musical literally changed my life, and I don’t say that lightly. I haven’t been the same since I discovered it two months ago. I’ve experienced more emotions in these past two months than I had my entire life before this :) Thank you, Luc Plamondon, Richard Cocciante, Bruno Pelletier, Daniel Lavoie, Garou, Luck Mervil, Patrick Fiori, Julie Zenatti, Helene Segara, and finally, all the ‘nameless’ dancers and acrobats involved in creating this masterpiece. At this point, I am simply resigned to the fact that I will probably never get to experience something as intense as what this musical evoked in me as a result of art/media/music/theatre (or perhaps as a result of ANYTHING) again. Forever grateful for having experienced this nonetheless. I will keep coming back to this “just to feel something” forever, until the day my heart ceases to beat. Even my therapist can’t find an explanation for what this musical has done to me…💀
It's amazing, isn't it? The masterful combination of many different instruments and beautiful voices create a marvelous experience. One of my favourite pieces of music, ever.
Do not forget, in the thanks, Victor Hugo, who wrote the novel "Notre Dame de Paris" from which was largely inspired this musical. (Little story: this novel, released in 1831, had such a success, that this cathedral which was in pitiful state was finally restored, restoration carried out by the very controversial (but in its brilliant way) Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.)
@@lordofthemfl9899 actually I had studied French a long time ago at school but I didn't like it then But now I do ,just need to finish some important things before starting from 0
Maybe it's because of my terrible ears and headphones, but at the end, when they're singing together, I love how certain lines are emphasized by characters. Like, they all sing: What's the point in praying to Notre-Dame? But it's Quasimodo's voice that's the loudest. They all sing: They're the ones that don't deserve to live on Earth. The other two are louder on "deserve to live" whereas Quasimodo's loudest on "Live on Earth." Again, probably reading too much into it, but I love how they can say the same words but have different meanings.
They did such a great performance at the time, that every day since the day they stopped performing the world is sobbing missing it. Magnificent voices but also great feeling of their characters and great cast for all characters physically, from the vocal point of view and the role play… No other version did it even close that good. Let’s face it.
obviously they're all amazing and absolutely slay in their own respects (and my favorite singer in the whole musical is actually bruno pelletier lmao), but can we TALK about daniel lavoie (the second man)???? like, I don't know what it is but his voice is just fucking captivating. and those bottom harmonies at the end, they're so pleasing, sir- just gOD
C'est notre culture. Notre civilisation. L'occident.
Composed by Italian / French singer Riccardo (Richard) Cocciante). Just watched him in a Christmas concert from Vienna with Placido Domingo, Helmut Lotti and Sarah Brightman. The concert was the same year he composed this musical. He seems like such a nice person.
This is very strong! It touches the heart! No words! The best production of Hugo I've ever seen!
I speak portuguese and I love all the latin languages sisters (I speak spanish and french, but not italian) And I can truly say french is the most beautifull of all!
Their voices are really beautiful 💕 this is a very talented crew absolutely amazing👏and the performances on stage is simply awesome, the drama 🎭 is breath taking.
The best thing in the world is this musical.even the Galaxy. Of the universe. The person who got the chance to watch it live has taken every chance in this life. Also, the most impressive part of the musical is the part where it is "a boire", that is, the beginning of this video. The Belle part begins when Quasimodo is turned, trapped in chains. Artist Garou, meanwhile, has failed to make even the Quasimodo character ugly.
my budgie always loved this song. now that she's gone, everytime I remember this song, it throws me back to when she was chirping to this song. fly high buddy 💔

There are no words to describe how good those lyrics are!!
