If Notre Dame wasnt relevant people wouldnt be hell bent on them joining a conference.

Notre Dame's relevancy today has more to do with their financial and brand value, which makes sense given the current focus of what is happening in college football. Each day the P2 conferences grow in strength and for the first time since I've been following college football (since the 80s), ND's influence seems to be waning. When the P2 commissioners decided to meet (w/o ND), that was pretty significant.

ND is relevant but they keep getting these special carve outs and why should the Big Ten and SEC continue to allow them to have there cake and eat it too

@@sydIRISH no why would it be harder? For one you play 5 conference games now in the ACC and USC, Navy so you are playing a defacto conference schedule anyway so you are not really independent anyway. Moving forward the Big Ten and SEC schools aren’t going to want to schedule ND because it will only hurt them. They have guaranteed. Spots and for the at large there strength of schedule will be strong enough to get them in regardless of who they play in the off season. So if they play ND and lose it could keep them out of the playoff. So in the end all ND is doing is hurting themselves you are giving up a seat at the table for the future of collage football to claim some independence that in the end because of TV deals you don’t really have anyway. In the end it’s up to ND and there fans to decide what they want but other than being able to say you are independent giving up having any say about your future because you’ll just have to go along with what everyone else desires when in fact you really aren’t independent anyway just seems silly to me but like I said I’m not a ND fan so I guess I don’t understand the whole pride in saying your independent

Big Ten and SEC won't schedule Notre Dame. They don't need to play Notre Dame. Big Ten and SEC have enough big games just playing within their conferences. Notre Dame will change like the rest of college football 🏈 has or get left behind.

ND isn't irrelevant. It's just no longer on equal footing with the B1G and SEC as an independent. OSU, UM, Bama, UGA, and CU were the top 5 most watched teams last season. ND was #10 and almost tied Washington who was #11. The problem is that too many ND fans and leaders still expect independent but equal treatment which just won't happen going forward. It's not about playoff access. It's about having enough money to compensate players and bring an end to the NIL lawsuits. ND will be on its own trying to fight that fight unless it joins a conference.

Notre Dame not being in a Conference for the last half century has always been about money. Notre Dame has not wanted to split their spoils with lesser team in a conference. So I have no sympathy for Notre Dame if they get locked out of the playoffs or big TV money.

Forcing ND towards a conference is the only benefit to an otherwise horrible suggestion. I would rather see no auto bids, all bids to conference members.

Why would Notre Dame join a conference just to be 5-4 in the B1G or 3-5 in the SEC? They’ll never get in the CFP that way.
