Alex The GOD Of AC Cruz Milan Azul He doesn’t mean it in a disrespectful manner, just that it is interesting to see a club achieve the top glory before smaller glory such as league title or regional titles. Think of it as a country winning the World Cup before their continent title.
The champion of England is never an unlikely team to win. Clubs like Crvena Zvezda or Steaua Bucharest were the real surprises. That era of real champions competing is sadly long gone… Now money buys trophies
This European Club was totally unlike The quarter-of-finals were: Nottingham Forest x Grasshoppers Koln x Glasgow Rangers Austria Viena x Dynamo Dresden Wisla Kracow x Malmo
@@r4h4alNo way. Forrest won the league title the season after getting promoted to the first division. They had barely any success in the clubs history before that. Then the season after they won back to back European cups and league cups. Incredible really
Nearly, but not quite. Forrest beat the best, Malmo sounds tame, but, I believe they had Cologne, full of stars. The final, second time was basically Germany plus Kevin Keegan. They had Shilton, but don’t talk pish!
MALMO DIDN'T HAVE A SHOT ALL NIGHT THEY JUST PARKED THE BUS THEY WERE VEAK , VEAK THEIR ONLY CLAIM TO FAME THEY LEANT ARGENTINA THEIR SHIRTS IN THE 58 WORLD CUP THEY WERE VEAK , VEAK
Well that's what I wanted to see Robertson do! Brian Clough joined in 1975, he said it would take 6 years to build a Championship winning side, in fact it took 4 years and 5 months for them to win the European Cup - Magic
Trevor Francis RIP. I was fortunate enough to meet him as he played for the Detroit Express for a season while we were living in the US. He played on synthetic grass in a pair of Adidas Country trainers. He wiped the floor of all the teams we played against. Absolute Legend!
The first European cup final I have watched, and it’s still burnt into my memories. Funny how many more I have seen since and most of them just forgot quickly. But the first one is something special. At the time I considered Forest to be the biggest club of the world
Brilliant stuff. Much more alive than the pan fried stuff on offer today. These two clubs were actual national champions and in the final on merit and not the competition as dictated by the TV and sponsors of today
Years ago the European press lambasted the South American Cup because it took over 80 matches to knock out a handful of clubs. This was to satisfy the TV channels who wanted the big clubs in the kos. The "Champions League" satisfies them but no one else. I also remember this final as being somewhat dull, but most finals are. In hindsight it is much better than the dirge served up today
@@jerrymouse346 I'm sorry, how was this final better than some of the finals recently? 2008 final was better, 2013 final between Bayern and Dortmund was better, 2018 was action packed
I remember those games well. After the European away legs me and my mate would ride our motorbikes to East Midlands Airport to welcome back the team. At some right ungodly hours !! Lots of supporters there!!
Nottingham Forest still has the record for the least number of games played to win both European Cups 10 games in the 78/79 campaign 10 games in the 79/80 campaign
Would be nice to see more clips of Clough & Taylor with the European cup. Too many uploads now of former players talking about his drink related antics.
Bursting with pride to say I come from the Midlands we have more European cups then the whole of London combined nffc x2 and avfc x1 being a midlander is a blessing from god
Reading Bob Latchford's book, he rates Francis higher than Rooney, and so does Martin O'Neil - and others I suspect. Oh, and me. It's strange to say but Francis is so underrated today but he was a genius.
Time change....Today Notts is back in Premier league, after years and years in championship, and Malmoe, almost every year in european cup or champions league groups, would be totally unable to be in final, lots of teams have so much money...Trevor Francis was the legend of Forest...
Took 20 hours to get there on the bus 🚍 train 🚉 and ferry ⛴ was behind the goal to see Francis winner Went by plane ✈ the next year to Madrid Great Times and glad Robbo got the winner
High teens. Liverpool were ascendant, Forrest cut them down, not totally. Forrest won league won European cup. Liverpool take it back, Forrest knock Liverpool out, win European cup. I remember as a teenager does. I supported them. A cool team, Liverpool more, but the Forrest team was full of heroes. They got murdered in the second final win. Held ourt, stayed calm, had threat. Had first black England player, maybe, Viv Anderson, a great player! It was a bastard team to play against and Birtles and Bower were unsung frontmen. Robbo Gemmill and and Burns, your Scots, we were better then. Shilton!
I support Liverpool and at the time I hated forest, they stopped Liverpool winning it 3 times on the trot. Now looking back what forest did with Clough (Peter Taylor deserves a lot of credit too) was without doubt the greatest achievement in football. From absolutely hating them, they've kind of become my second team, and I always look out for their result. What they did will never be bettered.
You would be more surprised to know that Nottingham has only one league tittle which produced them two European cup tittles in two seasons. Back then you have to be a champion of domestic league or be the reigning champions of European cup to be able to participate again in this competition.
I hope Nottingham Forrest get back to their glory dayz. Also better than Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. One day some smart rich come and save Forrest. Coming from man utd fan
@@asentseto Can't remember, probably answering a question. But I think it's about qualification. 14 years later you need not be a League Champion or holder to enter the CL as it was in 1979
