Just heard a Gary Mabbutt interview on diabetes and how he described this being one of his proudest days....such an inspiration to so many around the globe.
Cried my eyes out when Stewart equalised. Literally. Was soo happy. My days. And at aged of 12 back in May 1991. And no one knows now what that lad went through. Legend. He won the cup final for us.
Happy days. I'd just gotten into football around the early part of '91 and Spurs became my team. This was my first FA Cup. One to remember. Hated seeing Gascoigne injured that day. He was my top footballer at that time.
This is the first FA Cup Final I ever watched. always felt more special back then. I even got he VHS version for Christmas which had one of the players autographs on the front, no idea which player though.
I’m jealous of the people who experienced and watch this beautiful game back in the day! I was told story’s on how there was barely any flopping, very rough, real football that anybody could ride up if you had a good team!
Spurs had a team capable of challenging and winning the league, which Terry Venables was aiming for .. the team was just one or two players short of achieving that dream which never happened under Alan Sugar.
Weird weird day. I couldnt believe we turned up in that disgusting new umbro kit for the final. Adored the Hummel one it was gorgeous. It was mainly over cast and obviously poor Gazza's head was too over loaded for the occasion. That lino wants shooting for disallowing linekers goal. 32 years ago.
Yeah. I used to think the FA Cup Final should only be won by a worldy of a goal. Own goals shouldn't be allowed. Didn't Tommy Hutchinson also score an own goal against Spurs in 1981? I'm surprised John didn't mention that fact. Spurs were famous for winning the cup every time the year ended in 01. Except for:- 1881. Old Carthusians 1891. Blackburn Rovers 1911. Bradford City 1931. WBA 1941. World War II 1951. Newcastle United 1971. Arsenal 2001. Liverpool 2011. Manchester City 2021. Leicester City
Gascoigne should have been red carded which obviously would have been to Tottenham's detriment but ironically the changes required seem to enforce Spurs determination particularly in the second half. As for the match itself, Forest deservedly took the lead with a fantastic freekick which doesn't get the same recognition as Gazzas in the semi despite that it was equally as good. Linekers goal should have stood & the penalty was stonewall but what a save from Crossley . As a Spurs fan I felt for Clough but Tottenham's need to win was greater in respect of the club's financial turmoil.
Roger Milford said in his autobiography that he never sent off Gazza because he know after that tackle he injure himself & wouldn't be able to continue, I think this is when Gazza's troubles started as he wasn't the same player after that crazy tackle
The thing I've always wondered about the Gazza incident when he did his cruciate...what the hell was he doing in that position to make that tackle? He was an attacking midfielder but when he did that ludicrous lunge on Gary Charles he'd somehow popped up in the centre halfs position.
A good question, not sure maybe got dragged out of position. It happens players get out of position a lot, sometimes they have to help out defending when the team loses the ball.
@@supertottenhamtv I think it was an indication about just how much Gazza had lost his head that day to suddenly end up in that position. He really should've been sent-off early on for that horrible challenge on Garry Parker which may have done his career better long term as he would've avoided 18 months out of the game, but not helped Tottenham's chances on the day.
@@winny8420 I think Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs are all on 8 wins. Only Ar*enal and ManU have surpassed this total. ManC would have reached 8 had they won yesterday.
IMO this Wembley is better than the new Wembley. The new Wembley has a design fault with shadowing during games played in the day when it's sunny. The officiating at this game though was terrible. Disallowing a perfectly good goal and not at the very least giving Gazza a yellow card for that foul on Parker, which may have saved his career.
I was there on the 18 yard line same side as the TV camera in with the Forest fans. So many Spurs in the Forest end that day. Buzzing to see Gaza play and off he went after a few minutes. If only he had been booked for the first challenge he might have settled down and not wrecked his leg forever. Great day all round - COYS.
Personally I think the Stuart Pearce free kick was a foul in the wall, Gary Lineker's goal was on side. Gazza should have been sent off. Saved penalty and an own goal. This is what Fa Cup Finals are about.
I agree the push in the box was a foul for the Forest goal, Linekers goal was clearly onside. Gazza should been sent off for that high boot challenge. Great to get the victory at the end, COYS.
@ppuh6tfrz646 I know 😂 my cousin is a fan and has been married for 10 years and got 3 kids.. but still has never seen his side play in an FA Cup final.
Gascogne should of been sent off in the first minute and deserved that injury that fucked up his career if your going to go around putting dirty challenges in like he did then expect to get what u intend to give out 👊
Gascoigne should have been sent off twice. Each of those 'tackles' was worthy of a red on its own. The fact he was stretchered off changed everything as the whole narrative changed from him being a villain to a victim. It just gets worse from there. The Forest free-kick should not have stood because Glover pushed a Spurs player out of the exact spot where Pearce placed it for his goal. The first Spurs goal was onside but I think the second one was offside by the rules of the day, so they got one they shouldn't have had and were denied one they should have had. As a Forest fan, the whole thing left a bit of a sour taste by the end of it. And yes, still salty after all these years.
I was 12 and watched this live. Probably my favourite cup final tie and I was a neutral. Had everything. Excitement. Drama. And man you can never beat the atmosphere in those days. The old Wembley ❤
Lineker's goal was onside, it should have stood. Great save by Crossely from the penalty. Gazza's tackle was poor. Often wonder what would have happened had he not injured himself commiting it? Could have been his final? 🤔
Gascoigne could have been sent off for kicking Gary Parker in the chest in the first few minutes but should definitely have been sent off for the foul on Gary Charles.
Gazza could have been sent off for the high boot on Gary Charles. He definitely got away with it, being a big name in the English football he got away with it
Free kick should have been disallowed Offside goal was on all day Pen should have been a red Gazza should have been sent off Corner dat led to the own goal did not touch the keeper
Where was VAR , onside , keepermshould of been sent off .. and Gazza would of been banned for a year .. still can’t believe this is the last time we won the fa Cup… shocking.
